@@RaitisRides Like hotcakes would be my guess. I spend half the year in Japan and half in the US - they are VERY capable off-roaders. The top of the line model Jimny is currently 2,264,345 yen, and with the insane exchange rates, that is about $15kUSD. Just compare that to what Jeep is charging now for their cheapest Wrangler
@@RaitisRidesHere in South Africa, the Suzuki Jimney has just been launched. It’s a mini 5 door Wrangler with proper 4x4 suspension that is very comparable to any toughest Jeep or Toyota. Thinking of getting one myself.
That was an interesting presentation, Joe! You actually went all the way to Tokyo for the auto show. Both of those Suzuki's are great looking vehicles and are ideal for their environment. As you say, Japan is not overrun with F-150s and Ram 1500s.
I really wished Suzuki would sell cars here again. I recently saw a new Suzuki jimny driving near my home in Vegas. They were probably visiting from Mexico.
I've driven both generations of Hustler in Japan. IMO, great little runners, cheap interiors but very utilitarian, perfect for a second runabout for a young Japanese family.
The Suzuki Jimny is one of the best selling vehicles in the world and is such a perfect little truck. It’s a travesty that we don’t get it here in NA. It would be the best seller for sure.
It would only be if it was priced appropriately but they couldn’t sell them in the same state they do everywhere else . Their cars wouldn’t pass our crash tests and driving these on the highways would be scary with how slow they are.
I recently bought a brand new Suzuki Vitara and coming from 5 consecutive Audis (80 B4, A4 B5, A6 C5, A6 C6, A7 C7) over 16 years, I am very surprised by the quality, the usability, the peppiness, the handling, the room, the attention to detail, the reliability. This has to be the best car I have owned. Not turning back and considering adding a Jimny two-door to my fleet when I get the chance. 👍🏾
This would be a hot seller in the US if they give it proper off-road capabilities. Perfect size to get around town easily, good MPG being a hybrid and fun on the weekends! So tired of oversized, overpriced SUVs that you can’t take off-road!
Crazy fact: Suzuki Jimny has been around in Japan for over 3 years, but it still has a year waiting list. Good luck getting one without paying the dealer markup 😂
I've been saying for years that there needs to be a vehicle that is a 3 cylinder that holds two people and is built specifically for MPG... and is affordable.
The Jimny is a phenomenal vehicle and actually performs very well off road mostly due to its light weight. There’s a video on UA-cam with some British guys from edmunds I think, off-roading and competing with a wrangler and a G-Wagon. Very entertaining to watch.
The Jimny is just too fun to drive off-road. Though it is small in stature, its capability gives you so much confidence. You can go literally anywhere with it
Man Raiti, I really love Kei cars so much, wish we could get them sold new in America. These two would be fun cars. I will eventually be moving to Sweden and the Jimny is currently sold there.....by the time I move there in around 5 years it will probably be out of production (or at least not sold in Sweden anymore), but picking up a gently used one sounds like fun.
Fun fact Traded a nearly new 1986 loaded black on black loaded 5 speed MR2. For a brand new 5 speed black hard top Suzuki Samari ran it 60,000 reliable miles - sold for more than I paid for it. Bought a then brand new design / new 89 sr5 black extra cab Toyota 4x4
Ratis rides is the best car review guy on UA-cam hands down!.. we all love so much mr rati, you mak us laughing while also admiring the exclusive vehicles and content. Ur so amazing for responding to me on ig😄 i cant believe u did
If they brought this to the US, I'd totally rock one, the only issue is someone would take issue with the name, so it would be changed to some stupid name in a heartbeat
Joe, great seeing a Suzuki product on your channel. I currently drive a 2012 Kizashi in NC. It's been the best car I've ever owned out of 30, and now has 120,000 completely trouble-free miles. The Kizashi was an in-house design and truly an awesome and overlooked car. I'd not hesitate to purchase a Hustler. Great job!
This looks like a GREAT fleet vehicle for the IT company I used to work for that had a bunch of Ford Escapes. This Suzuki could be a fun way to be "all business".
Speaking of Japan, Tofer's Car Tales channel just posted a tribute to the 1986 Michael Keaton movie "Gung Ho!", a comedy about American auto workers and a Japanese automaker that came to save their plant.
As we don't have any restrictions & also Live in a RHD market some have been bought directly from Suzuki & are in the UK already . 2049 is along wait America move next door to Canada you can have 1 un 2039.
The problem with subcompacts in the U.S. is that by the time they get here, they’re so watered down that there’s nothing left but the shell and engine. You can’t maintain sales numbers when all you have to offer is headroom and a 100Hp motor….you alienate all the folks who can easily afford and want a subcompact when all the bells and whistles are missing. I loved the Scion xB and Nissan Cube when they came out but they had none of the “fancy” features that were offered across the pond, like a sunroof, upgraded infotainment/stereo system, power folding mirrors, dual climate control, and leather upholstery. You had to upgrade to a Mini (and later a Fiat) to get these premium features, but I wasn’t willing to sacrifice reliability and build quality at this price point.🤪 The Kia Soul is the spiritual successor to the xB and Cube, but it’ll end up on the chopping block like the 2nd gen xB if it continues to grow…these box on wheels lose their luster at a certain size.
I have to begin with that press pass you're wearing! That would make a great tray to hold my double meat Whataburger and fries! 😂 Now about that Suzuki Hustler: Would it even pass US safety regs? And tbh, an AMC Pacer is better looking, so is a Kia Soul. Can't imagine any dancing hamsters around the Hustler, though it's not as bad looking as a Nissan Cube. There's that. Btw, Nissan used to sell a Datsun pickup back here in the states called the Lil' Hustler. (Is Hustler Magazine even still in print?) The Suzuki Jimmy Sierra, on the other hand, actually is quite good looking, especially with the flared fenders. A reasonably powerful ICE under the hood and manual transmission would make it work for me. What I'd really like to see come over from Japan are those 5 speed cab over engine compact pickups. There's something about their look, and I miss the simple stick shift compact trucks.
I wish we would could get the latest Suzuki Jimny here in the US as a low cost Wrangler alternative
That would be very cool. I wonder how it would sell.
