- University of Toronto students at the pro-Palestinian encampment react to a judge’s decision that they vacate the area. The court order granted the university an injunction that would also allow Toronto police to arrest anyone who has not left the space by July 3 at 6 p.m. (July 2, 2024 / The Canadian Press)

If this encampment occurred outside City Hall they'd be in full support of it. They just can't stand it happening on an open field near them. Out of sight, out of mind. UofT is paying the most expensive law firm in the country to evict people from a grassy field that was already fenced off.
Why was the university so determined to take any action other than having a good faith discussion with students about divesting from the military industrial complex which arms Israel? Divestment would have been the easy and ethical choice.
If these pampered students want to help the Palestinians, they should just use their allowance and go to Gaza and help them directly. The reality is that this protest is a public nuisance and little is achieved. I want all fighting stopped in every corner of our beautiful planet just as much as the protesters do. If you want to make a difference in the world you need to do more than just protest from where it's safe. I don't suggest you take your protest to Israel, that would be stupid. The only way to stop humans from fighting each other is to awaken to a higher level of consciousness, to shift from ego centric and ethnocentric and move towards world centric state. When observing the Earth from above there are no boundaries, you don't see lines dividing Canada from the United States, or Israel from Palestine. The lines on maps are all made up in our minds. The geopolitical boundaries and what happens inside of them are the results of our thinking. If we change our thinking we can become the change we want to see in the world. Imagine a world were 8 Billion people awaken and see each other simply as human beings. How cool would that be?

A lot of these people are actually students and alumni. Just like in BC at UBC during the rallies there. Students are peacefully protesting the war while sitting in the camps studying and doing assignment. This protest is in an open field and you can easily walk around. The only "disturbance" they're really causing is if some student would rather walk through the field instead of around to cut a minute from their walking time.
Remember, it's July. Most students are on summer break. Having gone to UfT both during regular and summer sessions, the campus is far less busy May-August.
The university just can't stand the fact they have no control over the activists they created. For decades this university has been pushing social justice causes and activism. Almost every single article on their webpage is focused on it and at least half the stuff in the magazines they send to us alumni. If you just based it on what you read from these two sources you'd actually have no idea that this is supposedly one of, if not the, best research university in all of Canada.

What do you think its goal was? Because the organizers spent months in public discourse talking to people about the issues highlighted on their website. They raise lots of money for the causes they care about, like supporting unhoused people in Toronto. They built momentum for an ongoing anti-apartheid movement. And what have you done in the meantime? Seems to me that this protest worked plenty well.

And it you were sincerely curious, you'd know exactly why the tents used in this action weren't donated - and it wasn't because of frugality on the protesters' part. Did you ever visit the encampment?
Sad that most of these students, who obviously don't have a clue, think they are getting an education. They'll be back living with their parents with nothing but debt, when they realize their spiritual psychology degree isn't going to pay the bills

I thought the right-wing were exagerating with the situation in univesities. They are not right often, but on this I can see they actually had a point. Students being taught WHAT to think and not HOW. Really sad and disheartening.
