After getting serious about becoming dedt free, I've realized this is not easy. 😉 you have to be intentional about it. I see why most people don't do it or they fall off the wagon. I love these videos! They help keep me on track!
Not easy, but rewarding! One must definitely be intentional, the idea of it too, is to get super MAD that you are making all these payments... That's me at the moment...! And I'm going to pay my cars off as fast as I can! You can do it, watch debt free scream videos and let them inspire you!
It's absolutely a "job" that we need to take seriously and keep on top of every single day. I keep my notebook handy, and keep a budget. I have even t=gotten myself down to what I know I can spend daily. All I owe on is my mortgage, and it feels great ! My hope is to sell my home this year, move out of state, and pay cash for my next home. Hooray for being careful with $$$$!! Have a great day ! :)
Its funny, im actually using those Erin Condren sticky notes on mine, temporarely. Whatever helps you stay within your budget. Its all about personal choice and self control. As long as you stick to a plan and follow it. The ultimate reward will be your own. I love watching these videos and getting new ideas. Thank you!
There are literal money clips that work really well. They are SUPER common groomsmen gifts. So, they usually come with engraving options. I have to imagine they would work REALLY well for what you're using them for. Though, I am not sure how many different clips you have and whether they will be too bulky. I may look into it myself! I super appreciate how you're showing what you want to do, why it didn't work, and what you're doing with it! Thanks for sharing the evolution of your budgeting ways!
I left a comment on your other video. Good idea, but here's another idea: take the smallest clips (available Amazon) you were using and hold them open with a vice grip. Then take a glue gun and put 2 "dots" of glue on each side (where they grip the bills), and let them dry for 2 minutes. This will provide a grip to keep them from slipping off.
I really appreciate the video. I dislike using the envelopes because of how easily they rip. This video gave me an idea that I think will actually help me have a little fun with saving money.
Also when you were using the other clips did you fold the metal part down? I've used mine with just one bill before and it didn't move once I folded down the metal parts
Love this so much that I went to Staples to pick up the exact same clips today! Previously, I was using the clips and covered them in washi, which was cute, but just didn't make differentiating them in my wallet easy at all. Thanks for sharing! Love your videos :)
I love this! I used a coupon wallet where it had separate sections for every general expense. And now I can't find them now. So this is an amazing option!!! Thank you!
I love those clips! FYI in case no one else has mentioned it-they are sold on Amazon in other fun colors and patterns too! Just search "Clip rite Clip Flags". I'll be buying some!
I tried this system but failed. 😂 I'm going to try this system again. Thank you. This is my first time watching your video, I just watched your old video about this, again. Thank you. ☺
I've been trying to convince my DH to do the cash system. *sigh* We are debt free except our house but still I think this would be great for us to try and put more into savings. I love those clips and I love the way that looks in your wallet.
love love love this video! I struggle with wanting a smaller wallet but I always felt like I needed a large wallet for the cash system! Love it! thanks for the video
I use large or jumbo paper clips with a pink index card at front of each section labeled Personal, Auto & Fuel (one section), Groceries, Dining Out, Rx &Medical (one section), etc. Fits great in my new wallet ( wide enough to not fold over bills and zippered. Love it.
I love organisation like this but sad I have no need for it in my life :( we don't carry cash as it can get lost (I'm so forgetful). so thankful I'm yet to have a debt been through some really hard times but refused to get into debt I see friends who are in debt and will defiantly be sending them to these videos :)
This is such a great idea! thanks for sharing :) I've just started my cash envelope system but for right now I'm using a plastic coupon holder from the dollar store to stash my cash lol. It's been a work in progress but so far so good. I think for the new year I will definitely invest in a wallet similar to yours. New susbbie and I love your vids. Hope you continue to make them and share all your awesome tips and trick.
This seems so cool but wouldn't work in the UK where we don't have notes for anything under £5, so once you hid coins it'll be harder to track what's for what. Nonetheless a great idea!!
Evie Bamigbade I'm in Ireland and we don't either but I still do a cash envelope system with really small envelope. I put any change leftover back in. At the end of the month if there's a few coins left I put them in a jar. hth :)
Just found your channel, great video. I love lifestyle videos like this 😊 super helpful for daily things. I've also tried using a coupon book for cash and that's nice to!
I just carry two bank cards. One is for groceries, the other for fun things, with a strict budget for the month. It's much easier to analyse what you spend online, than when you have to go through receipts and all of that. Especially for small things.
hi! what we have found works is to round the transactions to the next full dollar then place the change into a separate coin purse. this will also come in handy for paying exact amounts and not having to get change at times.
Tabitha Jackson I've been thinking about doing that as well and to control my husbands spending (mainly food and video games) which categories did you use them for?
I really really love this and I'm going to give it a go. I am very motivated to get myself debt free and saving this year, and I think this is going to help me a lot!! I can sort of foresee a very slight issue in that in my currency (AUD) any change I get back under $5 is going to be coins... Not 100% sure how I'm going to get around that yet, but this is definitely a good starting point!!
Darlene Paul aha! You have addressed yet another person who gave her the same critique about taking too long to show us a really great tip. You must know this UA-camr and you don’t appreciate the honest feedback LOL. Read my comments I left on another post in which you attacked someone else for leaving honest criticism. You are way too sensitive and this isn’t even your channel. I dare you to keep scrolling and read the comments. Many people thought too much time was wasted. It’s great feedback. If she shortens the videos she will make ten of thousands of dollars annually with more subscribers. Perhaps you already have scrolled through to shame people who also told her she took too long. These people cared enough to leave the comments so they could help her. They are saying they like her and want to stick around but their time is limited. Please get out of your feelings and help her make more money!!! Rachel Cruze’s videos are no more than 6 minutes long. People simply don’t have long attention spans.
I never carry cash. If you lose it, you can't "cancel" it. I keep a spiral notebook to write down all of my expenses. ( I have 4 years worth in one notebook ) all but one of my bills are on auto pay. Food and gas are paid with my debit card, and any online shopping is also paid with my debit card. I keep things super simple and check my finances every day. :) But everyone needs to find what works for them. :)
I agree with this. We keep a "monthly" balance at home in a safe and only take out a quarter weekly. For dining and stuff we may take out a bit more than a 1/4 the beginning of the month then slow down on the last half. But groceries we do this to make sure we have enough to last all month. And I don't like carrying a ton of cash either.
I only use cash unless I'm buying something online. I don't carry a month's worth of any category at one time and grab just what I need before I leave the house. It helps us stay on budget. If we forgot to grab cash, we do what Dave Ramsey recommends and go back home to get it. If we're not willing to go back, it was likely an impulse buy anyway. We do think it's a good idea to keep emergency cash ($20) in our cars in case we ever need cash, and if there's a real emergency, we always have our debit cards.
I pay all my bills online too. Sometimes if there's something I really want and am saving for I will take out cash every check and put it aside at home but other than that I transfer money into my savings on my banks app and my bills get paid online.
Loved the video! I actually have those clips but in metallic colors. I never thought to use them for my cash envelopes, let alone cut them to fit in my wallet. You rock! For my cash I keep at home (savings projects for specific items) I have cool zipper pouches in in black, tan or pearl with metallic writing. I’m going to combine all of these ideas to make a system that works for me. Suggestion: if you could shorten your videos you would get more subscribers and make more money this way. People’s attention spans are short--which stinks. Put that extra cash you’ll make from the Amazon sponsored purchases we make from your links towards your financial goals?? $$$ Best of luck to you!!
Interesting system. Unfortunately I can not use it here in Germany because we have a different relation to coins. There are 8 different euro coins and we have them more often in our wallet than in your dollar system.
American money looks weird. All the notes look the same. That would stress me out, worrying I was mixing up a big amount with a small. We have nice coloured notes in NZ. Green, blue, orange, purple... You're paper clip idea though is cute!
when i had 3 teenager and money was tight i only got paid 9 months in a year i did the envelope planning on my own never knew there was a book i did this from 1996- 2004 and then moved kids got married and nowi just have a planning list for every payday and have categories for vacation but dont have cash in pocket just in the bank
garand bohn I was actually doing the system without knowing it was so popular. I would just fold the cash in half and place a sticky note on each category.
I like the long wallet style, but I bought one at walmart tho, I'm thinking that I would love Rachel's wallet in the future! I use binder clips, but I think I'm going to use those paperclips that you bought!!! I'm getting those soon! I wonder if they have something like this at michael, cause i like things pretty, but i won't pay full price! :)
I saw these in the same area as the binder clips at Walmart and I thought the same thing! My thing is: I have direct deposit and was curious; when you get paid do you go immediately to the bank, withdraw your paycheck money to do this "Dave Ramsey" cash system?
I put all my change in a jar at the end of the night. Then I will cash it in when the coins fill it up. I just put the extra in my savings account, because I'm saving up for a down payment on a house.
Amazing video! Thank you so much. This might be a dumb question, but I am new to the cash game. When making online purchases, how do you use the cash? Do you just keep on yourself to deposit it back into your account for accountability?
That would be part of my sinking funds. So I would save up for that, or I could always save my monthly allowance for clothing, and use the extra saved money in that category for Black Friday shopping
What do you do with coins? I'm currently using Gail Vax Oxlades budgeting system but putting the money into envelopes so I can take it with me and the coins always fall out of the envelopes, so they are all smooshed into a ziploc baggie lol I like your system here but just not sure where coins fit in?
I just round up to the nearest dollar. I tend to toss the coins in a jar at the end of the day (if I've used cash). After a while I will cash it in and deposit that into my house savings fund
Lauren Paradis it depends. I don't worry about spending money on my hair because I tend to get my done and cut 3-4 times per year. However if it costs $200 every time you go to the salon and you go every 6 weeks, I would probably make a cash clip for it.
Looks great! I have a question though, when your pay goes in your bank account do you just withdraw all of it and split it up? What happens if you get paid weekly, do you just break it down to smaller amounts. I really like the paper clip idea
Brooke Allison I only withdrawal cash for my 4 categories because these are my "spend" items. All other things I need to buy, like household items or stuff for my dog I don't overspend in.
Fun to find another Minnesota gal! What do you do if you end up purchasing something online from one of those categories? make a deposit? I would find myself at the bank all the time. 💲
Farmhouse Chronicles you got it! I make myself accountable so I make a deposit into my checking account. It also helps me spend less because of all the trips to the bank
After getting serious about becoming dedt free, I've realized this is not easy. 😉 you have to be intentional about it. I see why most people don't do it or they fall off the wagon. I love these videos! They help keep me on track!

That is a great modification to the Cash Clip System!!
I'm honestly so glad your channel exists! I recently got my first job and your tips would help me not spend too much. Thanks so much
This is he best money organizer I’ve watched so far. I was not feeling the envelope for every category.
I'm currently using the clips you were using before but the really small ones I may have to switch to the ones you're using now! Thanks for sharing
Also when you were using the other clips did you fold the metal part down? I've used mine with just one bill before and it didn't move once I folded down the metal parts
They look great. Would love an update as to how you find them working in about a month.
Love this so much that I went to Staples to pick up the exact same clips today! Previously, I was using the clips and covered them in washi, which was cute, but just didn't make differentiating them in my wallet easy at all. Thanks for sharing! Love your videos :)
Love how that came out! Very colorful
I love this! I used a coupon wallet where it had separate sections for every general expense. And now I can't find them now. So this is an amazing option!!! Thank you!

Miranda Philippi Awesome job on being debt free except mortgage!!!
I like this modification! I currently use the clips like you had previously. I think I'll give these a try! Thanks for sharing!
I've gotten to where I use paper clips on most of my stuff now, cause you are right those big clips just fall right off!
I'm a first time visitor, enjoyed your video! Did subscribe......thanks!
love love love this video! I struggle with wanting a smaller wallet but I always felt like I needed a large wallet for the cash system! Love it! thanks for the video

Victoria Alexander I love the neon index cards!
Yes finally a wallet that is small and not too bulky thank you for this video
I love organisation like this but sad I have no need for it in my life :( we don't carry cash as it can get lost (I'm so forgetful). so thankful I'm yet to have a debt been through some really hard times but refused to get into debt I see friends who are in debt and will defiantly be sending them to these videos :)

Just found your channel and I am loving it!!! I make weightloss videos but I'm loving all this organization♡♡
I'm nerding out so bad over this!!! Def doing this for 2017! Thank you :)
What a great idea, love it, I can't wait to go those tag clips.
Nice. thanks for sharing! This is more practical than envelopes.. for me🙂
Thanks for sharing! I think may try to use this system :)
I've been using tabs for about two months I like it way better.
thank you for the update i have not update my cash envelope clips yet.
What do u all do to track the coins/change u get?
hi! what we have found works is to round the transactions to the next full dollar then place the change into a separate coin purse. this will also come in handy for paying exact amounts and not having to get change at times.
I love this video!!! You're so organized and I just love the fact that you're a tad meticulous - girl after my own heart 😉
Love this!!! Much more compact to allow in a smaller wallet. 👍🏼
I have seperate prepaid cards for different spending categories. it's safer and easier to keep track of how the money was spent.
Tabitha Jackson I've been thinking about doing that as well and to control my husbands spending (mainly food and video games) which categories did you use them for?
Good idea to cut them down. I use them in my planner and they re too big. I didn't think about cutting them down. haha
Thank you for the video! This helped me find a simpler way without the bulky envelopes or metal clips.
P.S. I found super cute ones at walmart for $2!
Very interesting ! I will be trying this out. Hopefully this work for me bc i tend to over spend when it comes to food lol
I really really love this and I'm going to give it a go. I am very motivated to get myself debt free and saving this year, and I think this is going to help me a lot!! awesome idea. been wanting do something similar and your rocks. thank you
Smart system, but it's about 8 minutes into the video before it's actually shown in action.
This video is so long-winded. Talking about other size slips she didn't buy and all of that.
Eleonore Bon Get over yourself

Is better than the envelopes the envelopes don't last that long I'm try this out , & thank you have a bless weekend. I need a smaller wallet too . ☕☕😊
Simply using the post-it is the most simple and effective method!
This is so much more practical!
Brilliant idea. Thank you for sharing
Team black!!! I can't stand blue ink, it made my day to hear that 😀
What do you use the planning budget for?
So clever loved every min of this video! 🤗
I love this idea so much but don't get what you do when you get coins? How do you know how much is for each section?
Oh I love this! I just subbed. I will be looking for these paperclips to do the same!! I love the bright colors too. Great tip!
I love this idea thank you so much for sharing!
That’s awesome! So much better than clips!
Thanks for the idea!
Best one I've seen so far. Thanks
I use sticky notes too! It works soo well for me!
I never carry cash. If you lose it, you can't "cancel" it. I keep a spiral notebook to write down all of my expenses. ( I have 4 years worth in one notebook ) all but one of my bills are on auto pay. Nicely done!
Interesting system. Unfortunately I can not use it here in Germany because we have a different relation to coins. There are 8 different euro coins and we have them more often in our wallet than in your dollar system.
What if you have change do you write what you spend to keep a tab?
Do you allow yourself to move money between budgets? Like grocery money for dining? Great channel - so happy I found you. :)
American money looks weird. All the notes look the same. That would stress me out, worrying I was mixing up a big amount with a small.
We have nice coloured notes in NZ. Green, blue, orange, purple...
You're paper clip idea though is cute!
I am so particular I would round corners. LOL You just now said you were rounding.
when i had 3 teenager and money was tight i only got paid 9 months in a year i did the envelope planning on my own never knew there was a book i did this from 1996- 2004 and then moved kids got married and nowi just have a planning list for every payday and have categories for vacation but dont have cash in pocket just in the bank
garand bohn I was actually doing the system without knowing it was so popular. I would just fold the cash in half and place a sticky note on each category.

I like the long wallet style, but I bought one at walmart tho, I'm thinking that I would love Rachel's wallet in the future! Frannie NEVER pay full price ;) ! 👍👍👍
Ohh again i love the wallet 😍😍
Well done!!! We are 2017 now, is it still working for you to have to remove the clips each time at the store??
You know you can flip the silver parts down and it holds it together, right? Haha love your videos!!
Shelby Huntsman my clips got worn out, even with pushing the silver parts down. So cash would slide out over time.
How do you do the cash clip system with online shopping?
I saw these in the same area as the binder clips at Walmart and I thought the same thing!
My thing is: I have direct deposit and was curious; when you get paid do you go immediately to the bank, withdraw your paycheck money to do this "Dave Ramsey" cash system?
Hi, what do you do with the change you get from each individual transaction, love the idea x
I put all my change in a jar at the end of the night. Then I will cash it in when the coins fill it up. I just put the extra in my savings account, because I'm saving up for a down payment on a house.
kyaaa cute system!
How do you make your planning budget work with the cash clip system if you buy online like etsy stores?
Planner_Tray I got to the bank and deposit the cash back into my account. I know it sounds tedious, but it makes me accountable.
Planner_Tray I usually make the deposit after, so I can make sure to put in the exact amount.
Love ❤️ ur video...I got mine from Walmart...
I see your a fellow Minnesotan ☺️☺️☺️ we rule!
How do people store their change? Mine is all over.
Amazing video! Thank you so much. This might be a dumb question, but I am new to the cash game. When making online purchases, how do you use the cash? Do you just keep on yourself to deposit it back into your account for accountability?
So what about like black Friday? How would you budget for that?
That would be part of my sinking funds. So I would save up for that, or I could always save my monthly allowance for clothing, and use the extra saved money in that category for Black Friday shopping
Why would you use binder clips in the place of paperclips?
This is so stinking smart👏🏾
Love this idea, thank you!!
Great video!
This video takes forever. Even showing opening packaging and trimming clips. We get it.
OMG this is so smart I so want to try this
Great idea!
I subscribed to your channel.
Do you think haircuts should be in a category or is that something I shouldn't worry about spending money on??? Thanks!
Lauren Paradis it depends. I don't worry about spending money on my hair because I tend to get my done and cut 3-4 times per year. However if it costs $200 every time you go to the salon and you go every 6 weeks, I would probably make a cash clip for it.
Favorite Daughter Emily thank you!!
Wow I love this!!
Favorite Daughter Emily I'm from Minnesota also! I'm totally going to try this out too.
They make even smaller clips, I got them at Office Depot. They will hold just two pieces of paper together..
That's awesome! I didn't see those :)
how would you do money clips if you get paid weekly
Love it
How much money do you put in at the end of the month?
Where do you put the coins?
