    Nice Little tree stampings. the seal and details in the scales really complement the knife. Excellent restoration, still a useful knife.

    Since it says “arbolito” on it, along with the Spanish word for Germany (Alemannia), I’m guessing that knife was made in their factory in Argentina. But as far as the date of manufacture I really couldn’t tell you. The Arbolito factory makes really nice hunting and outdoor knives. Last fall Warthogg gave me one of their stag hunting knives and it is a thing of beauty. Nice job cleaning this one up, buddy. That knife looks fantastic now. Cheers!

      No they’ve been using this mark on this model since possibly the first of them. Arbolito Buenos Aires was a subsidiary of Boker USA which was a entirely separate entity started by Herman Boker, with the Buenos Aires faculty starting in 1983. Herman was Heinrich’s cousin, but Herman also had a brother named…Roberto…who started his own brand, Casa Boker in Mexico as well. BTW Alemania is Spanish for Germany.After doing some more research I am now pretty convinced that this knife dates to the 1950s or 60s. It is certainly not a modern example from say the 80s or newer. The family has ties to Buenos Aires going back to the 1800s, however Arbolito as a brand is relatively new and mainly manufactures kitchen cutlery and a few fixed blades. It’s all very confusing and tedious.

    Hey Pete I am thinking about getting a new one with stag scales I have $585.00 in gift certificates from Knife center and this might be one I buy.

      You can get a lot of knife with that. They have the Classic Gold edition that has the old Tree Brand acid etch with gold leaf. Also has iron wood handles for $252. That’s a sweet deal. The Stag is going for $268 I believe. Really depends which handle material you want for the price difference.

    Those are crazily over priced new. They are a $150 knife at best and the really old ones in carbon steel are the best examples. They are kind of weighty and bulky to carry frequently. I would like to have an oldie one in carbon steel. They are kind of considered the original camp knife and have a cult following and part of the reason why new ones are priced so high

      @@Waterlander I think they are German made with stainless steel but I'm only interested in old carbon steel versions from decades ago

      It’s from Boker USA so it is not made in Germany is what I can tell you. . It is slightly cheaper here in the States then a base model Solingen, $252 vs. $268 for a Solingen make. HobieonUA-cam has a good video on his Classic Gold.

    • @swizzarmygrizz
      @swizzarmygrizz  2 роки тому +1

      @@Waterlander the Gold will have different stamp. They don’t mark Solingen on knives made anywhere else. Boker USA and Solingen were completely different brands until fairly recently and now USA is basically standard, Solingen is premium, and the rest don’t matter. According to Boker only German made knives have a German tang stamp and have the little tree stamp. Of course they make it more confusing by having USA made knives called “Tree Brand” that do not have the small tree stamp on the tang. I think. It’s all very confusing but you know I’m not really interested in anything less than 50 years old generally so it’s not going to be an issue. Also the prices are insane for either you won’t catch me spending $200+ dollars on a new knife anytime soon. Clear as mud.

      @@Waterlander According to Boker anyway. You know the deal have to do the research and make sure you’re getting a real one. They even made reissues of this knife using the old style can opener and old tang stamps. They’ll still be made in Solingen, but they’re modern so you have to look at every little detail.

    • @swizzarmygrizz
      @swizzarmygrizz  2 роки тому

      It will say Solingen and be made in Germany.
