Regarding the black levels, were they true black or washed out grey?

I've read that on max brightness setting at 10, the black can be greyish not too bad but far from great.
But if you watch during night time conditions, brightness at 10 is way too much for your eyes so you reduce it to 5 and then the blacks are way more black and enjoyable. That's waht i've read. Only the Hisense C1 is his true competitor.
