They talked about the crediting of rule creators and artists at a panel some years ago. Their big “reason” for the change was the amount of online hate that individuals received in reviews of the products. Up to and including threats for changes made to people’s beloved rule sets.
I’ll be honest, I think that’s a load of crap. There are plenty of idiots on the internet, so I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but I don’t think it’s the issue they’re claiming it to be. But by removing credit from writing or sculpting, they limit the ability of someone to have credit for their work which they can then use to market themselves and create competition for GW. Alessio Cavatore, Gav Thorpe, the Perrys, and many others got their start with GW, and have since leveraged that into work with Warlord, Mantic, their own companies, etc. The new batch of designers and sculptors won’t have that same opportunity as there’s no credits on their work.
I've long since washed my hands clean from GW.. but Necromunda was always my favorite game they made. Specifically because the cost, compared to their other games, was relatively low. Buy a gang, buy the rules, and off you go, bonus if you could make your own terrain.
I started about a month ago too.. Played some 2nd Ed a bit, read the articles in WD from -95.. Love the setting.. And it feels nice with skirmish now.. The prices are.. Rough for the Old World and similar.
Yeah, I’ve had the original rules for a couple decades, but never played. But I get you on pricing. The books are about what I’d expect from any game book with similar production level, but the minis are a bit more rough. That’s part of the reason I’m using 3D printed.
Awww... I came here ready to blast you over talkin' GW... But now im leaving a comment about how I think we all need you too, Ger! You're the best, mate!
Loved hearing your story about your wife buying you the 3e boxset. Old school GW had so much flavor and coolness that is just lost now that new rulebook looks bland as hell and i'm sure the rules are much the same. But i think it's cool your diving into this with your buddy and at the end of the day that is the best part of gaming is spending time with your bros.
The driving reason behind removing artist credit was fans. Matt Ward in particular wrote some stuff that didn't set well with a certain sub group of fans. So those fans doxed him. Leading to threatening phone calls to Matt. They wrote hateful stuff on his LinkedIn page. Filled Reddit with hateful stuff so that anyone looking up Matt Ward only found all this negative information on page one of any Google search. Another group went after one of the female sculptors not as bad, but same behavior. So the only solution is to stop crediting the writers and artists.
Necromunda is an awesome game, I've been into it for about 3 years now. I just wish gang creation was a more streamlined
I love that book. I picked it up about a dozen years ago used

Getting into necromunda myself. I have big big plans. Probably overboard plans 😅
Agreed... I'm going a bit nuts myself. Just from Print Minis I'm up to about 6 gangs!

That’s the best. Even when you’ve moved on, the good memories are still there.

Yeah… It was a bit of a wake up call for me too.
Gaming with ADHD. Ok, this is relevant.
Shit I'm meant to be working.
Glad it was worth your break time! 😉
