Bike Park Wales - 50 Shades Of Black - "SCARY"

  • Bike Park Wales is the trail park that'll put a smile on your face all day. Even though I've been going now for around 3 years, I've not yet tackled all the blacks. In particular - 50 Shades of Black. Doing what most people do, I hit UA-cam and looked at the features and thought to myself, it's time.
We all pay a good amount of money to even ride Bike Park Wales and the mix of trails always has you coming back for more. I knew 50 Shades of black had the features that I look for in a trail. Drops, technical and fast.
That said, all the videos on UA-cam don't show the gravity of the features. Let's just say the GoPro effect was fully in force. So some of the 50 shades features took me by surprise. Much bigger than I thought at least.
So we did the sensible thing and pieced it all together in sections. Waving up the features and working out the best lines to hit them properly.
The sense of achievement when you complete something like this for the first time is truly unreal. I'm pretty sure you're hear that in my voice.
Now I know what to expect on this trail, there's really no looking back.
Bike Park wales, what a place indeed. 50 shades of black, at last ticked of my list.

Awesome riding fella. Those step downs and road gaps look like nothing but when you roll up to them it's another story, from the cockpit of the bike they are huge. People say they look easy untill they stand on the lip. My mate is 6ft 6 and he stood in the bottom of pork belly entry jump and you could barely see him on the approach. But as soon ad you hit the lip you soon knew it was big. Camera doesn't show the full ferocity and size of the trail. 👌👍

Blimey! next time I do 50 shades and come round that corner at warp speed I'm gonna be worrying someone might be standing on that road gap admiring the view or even worse walking back up the trail.

@@MikesMTBAdventures I'm not gonna read through every comment to check tbf. Your a UA-camr you should promote trail safety and proper trail etiquette. Hate to sound like a twat but that trail doesn't have that many easy escape points and it's putting other riders in serious danger. The bike park had a no push up rule for a reason. How do you know a pro rider with a silent hub wasn't gonna come bombing down? A bike park member riding at the end of their shift? What happens when that rider comes bombing down sees you and has to evade and crashes into a tree or rock? At the end of the day, don't break the rules which put yourself and other people in danger.

The footage really doesn't do these features justice and I "know" just how big these drops are! Mental place and so very well done for riding the blacks! Talent right there! @@MikesMTBAdventures No worries and thanks for replying ... I think its ok and there are lots of times I would have been better doing that instead of flying blind so to speak! I have seen it end up in some proper rows though in years gone by ... I reckon the whole youtube scene had resulted in some changed practices and sessioning is one such thing. Either way it looked great and nice riding ... not a trail for my 901 and dodgy knees though I reckon!

Really not a good idea to just be chilling in the middle of a technical black like this! it's ok to stop and check out a feature, but it's not ok to just stop in the middle of the trail and stand there discussing it. Not fair for the advanced riders who want to get the most out of a trail, and safely so.
