- PHIL TAYLOR and Michael van Gerwen will clash in the BetVictor World Matchplay quarter-finals after progressing through Wednesday's second round alongside Adrian Lewis and Alan Norris in Blackpool.
Taylor, the 15-time World Matchplay champion, punished missed doubles from great rival Raymond van Barneveld to claim a comfortable 11-3 victory from their eagerly-awaited clash on the Winter Gardens stage.
The Dutchman missed chances in each of the first three legs as Taylor, aided by finishes of 61 and 64, moved clear, only to see Van Barneveld finish double seven and 76 to pull back to 3-2.
He also shared the next two to remain in touch at 4-3, but a miss at tops in leg eight to level the game allowed Taylor to scramble home double one in a key leg.
A brace of double 16 finishes moved Taylor clear at 7-3, and he also landed an 11-darter before securing the win by taking out 96.

Great player, sad human being.
That's just a no go, talking about someone's private life. At times like this, you realize how much it hurts him that MVG has been the talk of the town the last couple of years.

The same Phil Taylor that took out a court injunction trying to block an interview by his daughters because he doesn't want his private life out there in public is now announcing on MVGs "behalf" that he and his partner have struggled to conceive. Classy.
He struggled to have a baby....sure mvg was delighted to have such personal matters aired in public

Reminds me of alex Ferguson. I couldnt stand him but fergie is a genius. Taylor was the same.king of the mind games as well as best darts player ever.i watched all taylor career and i remember when he played the crafty cockney early in taylor career.even though taylor was much better,bristow knew how to play the crowd he was the master.taylor said after he almost had me,he actually looked like he lost.well taylor learned so much from that and that is what helped him beat uncle fester in this match.
No time for Taylor the man but Taylor the player, commands respect. No-one ever does this to MVG only Taylor, best there will ever be.

Such a rude, obnoxious man, I wouldn't be happy if i was MVG, what gives Taylor the right to share aspects of Michaels personal life in an interview? The man is beyond words, as a dart player he's the master, as a person he is utterly loathsome

Legend but never forgotten.
Phil Taylor. The biggest diva in darts. Insists on respect from all other top darts players, and throws a hissy fit if he doesn't get it. Yet still hides behind funny grins, silly on stage dancing, and cheeky chappy tongue pulling, as if to say "I'm still a working class, man of the people." Arrogant as ever. Mates with Robbie Williams for fucks sake...Says it all.
Love the fact that Taylor won and so dominantly...but sharing personal information about Michael and his family showed disrespect and honestly uncalled for. I don't believe he meant it to be disrespectful as he was just stating that they have been trying to have children for awhile and now Michael has a beautiful daughter on the way and should be happy period. Win or lose. Darts is darts. Go home and enjoy the life darts has given you and your new family. Still shouldn't have shared personal information as it came across arrogant and somewhat showed disrespect. Micheal is cocky and may have got what he deserved...but he is still the best now and will be for a very long time coming.
Interesting to see the difference in the result over the same format with a fair crowd 16-8 mvg
