    Jane Iredale is the only foundation that has helped me clear my skin. Every other foundation I tried made my skin break out.

    Hi, I just watched your video comparing the JI Pressed Base and the Cover FX Powder Foundation, and I just thought I would throw a bit of advice concerning JI Pressed Base. I work with JI products every single day, and, and also wear it every single day. I too have an oilier skin type, but no matter what you use for foundation, good skincare needs to be the first step before any primer and any foundation. JI also now has a makeup primer for oily skin and honestly although a person should be able to use any primer with any foundation, I'm not 100% certain it actually works that way...The JI primers are really really different, in such an amazing way. It does not have that silicone slip that a lot of other primers have, which (by the way) do not work on oily skin. The primers for us oily people need to have an "encapsulated silicone" which the JI has, which feel more like a moisturizer than that velvety slip of regular silicone. The buffing of the JI Pressed base is absolutly fine as we use the buffing technique to build coverage if coverage is what you are wanting. The setting spray is a godsend product as it comes in a formula also for dry, normal and oily skin. Instantly takes away that cakey just applied powdery look, and sets the makeup. Use it over your entire makeup application. Just a couple of tricks form a JI educator.

      Face Up which primer works for oily skin? I have young, oily skin with almost no texture but the pores in my nose are slightly noticeable. Someone recommended the pressed foundation so I’ll try it out. I’ve seen the JI absence primer but the mixed reviews just make me doubt if I really want to get it or not. Any recommendations? I want to have a satin finish with coverage for the few spots I have but with longevity throughout the day.

    Awww, Angie, don't get discouraged, I fully understand being 52, my skin has gone through so many changes so fast that it is getting so hard for me to keep up with! I have a cabinet full of makeup, and skincare products that I have tried, and it failed very few are remotely even close to what I would consider a "success". I am thinking of trying the Becca, that is one I have not tried as of yet.Thank you for all your effort, and hard work, between you,Nisha,and Wayne Goss I have learned soooo much! I am so thankful to all of you for helping me.

    I'm with you Angie . So tired of trying different foundations hoping they'll be the ultimate greatest thing ever. Keep going back to my It cosmetics mineral foundations. They really are the best and easiest to throw on and go. End of story.

    I have used JI for years and always thought it did a good job of coverage. You do have to apply in a certain way but when finished it always looked good. I am always into products that have a high SPF and the JI does. Great testing. Enjoy the summertime.

    Happy to hear both you and your daughter's oral surgeries went well. Hope she's back at 100% soon. My son had two of his wisdom teeth pulled today, was supposed to be all four, however, the surgeon decided to just do two at a time, the bottom ones have not completely come out and were coming in sideways, so, hopefully his recovery will be positive, as we're going on vacation next week, he refuses to put that off, lol!!
    TMI, I know, but, just wanted to share. I as well am a fan of IT Cosmetics and don't wear much makeup in the summer. I am very oily, but, this year, have many dark spots and discoloration and feel subconscious about that, but, almost through most of the summer.
    Anyways, I'm sure everyone feels the same, your efforts are very much appreciated ;)

    Fantastic review video! I really like testing foundations and always do a combo of the half & half, often testing each new one against my relatevely "best" foundation at the time, because I won't keep/buy a new foundation if its shade match, finish & longevity aren't as good as with the best one i already have. I think this is an awesome series and totally saves a lot of us so much money. I'm hoping the cosmetics companies will pay attention and stop making such crappy foundations with ridiculous marketing claims. I hope you keep doing these. One thing you could do that might make this "project" less of a bummer is that if a foundation you're testing looks bad after 4 hours, you can just note that, take a pic, and then powder or remove/replace it so you can go on with the rest of the day looking and feeling fine. That's what I do when I'm testing a foundation. I don't need to know how much worse it will look at 10 hours if it already looks bad at lunchtime (4 or 5 hours). Thank you!

    Thanks for doing as much as you have, Angie. I think you have gone above and beyond for us 50+ gals, and I totally respect your decision if you want to enjoy the rest of your summer in a more carefree fashion. Right now I am wearing just the It Cosmetics CC 50+ SPF and not even bothering with foundation, and you should be entitled to do the same!
    Your lashes are looking amazing, by the way. I have such sensitive, watery eyes, but I am tempted to give that Rapid Lash a try!

  • @thelamandapanda
    @thelamandapanda 8 років тому +24

    Hey thought I would just pass along some info. I think you should give JI another try and apply it like this: the powder is supposed to be pressed into the skin, not brushed on or buffed. Also, it is never supposed to be used on its own, but is designed to be set with a JI setting spray. They have different ones for different skin types. I think if you press it into your skin you'll find that it smooths texture better, and if you set with the correct JI spray, it will keep it more matte and it won't look powdery. When I was taught how to apply JI it transformed into an entirely different makeup for me! Anyway, thought you might want to give it a try!

    • @AngieHotandFlashy
      @AngieHotandFlashy  8 років тому +1

      +Amanda Pierce I appreciate that you like the product and are trying to be helpful but the instructions that came with the JI compact are the opposite of what you're saying... here's a quote from the JI website: "pressing into the skin with a sponge tends to separate the individual minerals. This pulls the mineral that creates the glow to the surface. It is easy to avoid this by applying the minerals in thin layers in downward strokes with the brush"

    • @thelamandapanda
      @thelamandapanda 8 років тому +4

      +HotandFlashy Yes but I've also had someone actually from JI tell me differently. JI makes a "flocked sponge" that is designed to press the powder into the skin. Everyone's skin type and texture need different forms of application to achieve the best results. But also if you try the setting spray I bet you would see a difference. Wayne Goss swears by it :)

    Happy Friday, Angie! As a fellow New England lady I would say take some time off from FF. Summer is way to short here to spend time being frustrated with make up! And thank you for all the wonderful videos!

    Hi Angie, I sent you a note not long ago, raving about the Smashbox dual finish wet dry foundation. Scratch that, I have absolutely, hands down found my HOLY GRAIL foundation! It's the new It Cosmetics CC+ Airbrush Perfecting Powder SPF50+. I cannot believe how this stuff works! I'm 53, and I swear this stuff has taken 10 years off! The weird thing is, you only have to lightly sweep a little bit on, and you get nearly full coverage, but with NO cakiness whatsoever. It feels so lightweight and fresh but covers up everything. Give it a try, you'll be done with foundation Fridays because your search will be over!
    Love your channel, thanks for your excellent reviews!

    So glad everything went well this past week for you and your daughter. Loved the video on these foundations. I really need to get me some of the Becca foundation to try. I really think it cosmetics is my holy grail for now. And your lashes are killing it girl! They are so pretty, and look so much better than the false lashes everyone is using on you tube. I use the roller lash and it's my holy grail mascara for the moment.

    I tried the CoverFx powder in the past and I did not like it. The coverage was so-so and it didn't hold up in the heat even on my dry skin! I love the Make Up For Ever Pro Finish powder. It goes on great and the coverage is buildable. I was an N25 in the CoverFx powder and I wear 120 in the MUFE powder so that color may suit you as well.

    Terrific review, as usual, Angie - thanks so much. Def can sense your frustration; with good reason! Maybe you should consider MAKING a foundation for us gals pushing 50?! (or over 50). This is proof that nobody really has a formula out there for us. Just a thought. Would definitely appreciate seeing your other reviews, so we know what to stay away from and why...IMHO. Thanks again for actually providing HELP for us out here! Really appreciate it. Hugs, G-

    Firstly, I want to thank you for suffering through all these foundations to help us, your viewers. I'm sure we all understand that YOU need to enjoy videotaping as much as your viewers value the information, and amount of time & money you save us. Please consider uploading the foundations you've already filmed because it provides info for women w/mature skin that have other concerns. I hope taking a break from "Foundation Fridays" in July and August gives your skin a much needed break but also recharges your enthusiasm for this series. PLEASE consider continuing the hunt for a great foundation for mature skin; you're truly helping so many of us! Perhaps you would consider doing this series twice a month rather than weekly - AFTER summer. Personally, I'd be interested in seeing you compare the Chanel Foundations recommended smooth pores and fine lines: Perfection Lumière Velvet, Perfection Lumière and Lift Lumière. You could call it "The Challenge of the Chanels"😊. Thanks again!

    I completely agree with you about going lighter in the summer. You are so wonderful for continuing to bring us these reviews. What have you used in the past during the summer months? I think the It CC+ is a bit too rich so I use Clinique's moisture surge CC cream, which is still a bit dewey, but doesn't break down as fast. I also have very dry skin, so it works pretty well. It's good to hear you and your daughter are doing well. Please enjoy the rest of the summer and the time you have together! Thank you, Sandra

    Most makeup experts, like Jane Iredale, will tell you to use your moisturizer, then a PRIMER, before using any foundation. Why? Because that acts like a barrier between the foundation product & your skin. Plus, it helps to blur imperfections.With many people their skin tends to absorb the makeup without putting on a primer first. I'm the same age as you (56) and I always use a primer. It makes such a huge difference. Also for anyone not allergic to Bismuth in powder mineral foundation, the Bismuth is what helps that foundation to "stick" to your skin & is necessary. Personally, I love Bare Minerals & Sheer Cover foundations. I also at times, will mix 2 colors to get the perfect one for my skin tone, depending on the season. As we know your skin will tend to lighten up in the Winter months.😉

    Hi Angie, Look at it this way, you have been saving us money with these videos! Love the details you present to us, so, don't let it bother you at all. I seriously do not believe there is a holy grail foundation. Look at It Cosmetics being so nice for so many with the enormous number of skin types and skin issues; and many are singing it's praises. I'm having a terrible time at the end of each day using the powder alone or lightly over their bb cream because of the Tretinion causing flaking. I'm beginning to wonder if the Tretinion will ever stop making my skin flake. It is not the foundation's fault, but we all want perfect looking skin.

    I've just resigned to the fact that I can't wear pressed foundation powders anymore, so I don't buy them at all. Even the IT Celebration one... CC+ from IT Cosmetics is the only one that is working for me right now. (I got the illumination one in my kit, but I mix it with a sample of the regular until it is finished.) Thank you Angie. Agree on your take on both. I've come to conclusion that perfect doesn't exist. For humid summers I like Laura Mercier's Oil Free Tinted Moisture with a dusting of Lancome's Translucence Powder. Another tinted moisturizer I like is called CK One, it's at Ulta only. It's oil-free too, sheer coverage, mineral based SPF of only 8. I've learned so much from you on skin care and hooded eyes. You are wonderful! Enjoy your last few weeks before college!

    I've been using Rimmel lasting finish 25 hour the past few days, and I've really been liking it so far. I'm very oily in the t zone, and this seems to hold up decently. I do use Cover fx mattifying primer and a dusting of finishing powder. It's cheap, so maybe give it a try. I've given up finding perfection, my skin is just not conducive to an all day flawless look.

    Hi Angie,
    I'm a longtime Lancôme Beauty Advisor, and I would love to see a revue of Teint Idole Ultra 24hr foundation. It's our best selling foundation and I put it on women everyday who have your exact skin type. It looks beautiful on almost every complexion... long-wearing, pore minimizing, oil free, fragrance free, full/build able coverage yet light as air. A Demi Matte finish and best of all...it's non-transferrable! (I apply it on my decoletè to cover sun damage!

    I wouldn't mind if you start up the series again in the fall/winter because I don't want you to feel bumped out and wear makeup in this hell zone of heat and humidity. I don't like wearing makeup in the summer either. You could actually probably get a better wear out of them too, because it wouldn't be melting off your face 😅😁 thank you so much and I always enjoy your videos!!

    Thanks for all your hard work! It is appreciated! I'm using EL double wear light and it is doing a great job on my 63 yo face. I recently started using the Rapidlash. Have only been using it about 1-2 weeks but am hoping to see some results in the next couple of weeks. I have tried the Lancôme definicils mascara several times (loved it) but there is something in the formula that coats my contacts or causes a film to appear. I try it every few years hoping that something has changed. I will try this new one. Maybe it has a different formula.
    Love your videos! Enjoy your break!

    I have to be be honest, they both look really good to me; but then I prefer powder foundation (I’m 54). I always think that as long as things look fine at a conversational distance, that’s all tickety boo. No one is getting up that close to me except my other half, and heaven only knows he’s seen me at my worst already. I’ve got combo skin, I’d say. No sun damage thanks to a 33 year SPF 30 habit and always finding sun bathing really boring. I like both of these.

    CoverFx is quite a unique company and I love how informative their website is to help with picking out the coverage and for application tips. I have tried Jane Iredale in the past and it was okay, but not enough to purchase at that price range. Hi Angie!!! Unfortunately I was a sun lover, got the baby oil n iodine mixed together we found this little jewel of info in one of the very top notch magazines we bought the sheets that looks like plastic aluminum foil and baked away. I'm now 53 years old I'm surprised I don't have more wrinkles than I do but I was using Qluinque facial products religiously personally I think it saved my skin as back then the lotion had minimal sunscreen in it. Anyway. I've been watching your videos like I'm addicted to them...I think I just might be..LOL I was told to try the foundation makeup by It Cosmetics product is called It Celebration Foundation supposed to cover wrinkles,dark spots basically anything you want to go bye bye it retails for $38.00 has no application tools but it's supposed to be GREATfor dry skin. Be very moisturizing all natural ingredients and give you a slight glow to help diffuse what you don't want seen not supposed to settle into wrinkles or pores says it lasts from day till evening never needing a touch up n doesn't rub off on clothing won't come off till you wash it off.
    Could you please try this out n see if it's up to snuff it's made for mature skin, I would love to hear your remarks that are completely honest n that's why I love your UA-cam video's you've helped me beyond words an do so APPRICIATE all the time and effort you put into each video keeping us all from looking like Zebras whose stripes are sliding off!I am a newbie at all this stuff you put on before your foundation n then powder after to set it. Could you also do a video for a very natural look you know your wearing make up but everyone else just thinks your well rested!!TONS OF LOVE N LIGHT TO YOU N YOURS!!!Sincerely,Marcy K

    Hello Angie,
    Thank you for your hard work doing all these videos. I am 46 with dry skin. I have had rosacea for many years. I have been using Jane Iredale products for 5 years. I love them. I use my suncream (LaRoche Posay) , the loose powder Amazing Base (SPF 20), bronzer and after the hydration spray D2O to set up everything. It gives me a very nice finish and it covers my rosacea. When I want more coverage I use the primer Smooth Affair, the BB cream Glow time (Jane Irdeale) I finish with a little bit of the Amazing Base. I love this products. If you can, please test them and let us know your opinion. Thank you, Adriana

    Just a suggestion Angie.. How about trying a foundation like dermablend. Reason I am suggesting this is because it's good for those who have scars, tattoo's, birthmarks, etc.. As in those who really need to cover up and hide extreme stuff due to medical issues.. But needs to wear well all day. Rather a beauty product, which makes many claims.. Most which is marketing jargon that effectively sells but doesn't deliver any real benefits. Xx

    Angie, the Cover FX is a great product but for aging skin your best to avoid powder foundations. Their cream foundations in tube and compact which give much better coverage and those that have tried it rave about their Custom Cover drops. You should try a video which those, especially the drops.

    Waiting for that holy grail foundation to pop out for us. How big a bummer is this to pay for high end products that disappoint over and over?! I'm 51 with lots of sun damage and so far in my search it is the Hourglass Veil Fluid Makeup set with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light. Also bought Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation and switching between the two. The problem is they cost a fortune and makeup does not play perfectly with my terribly needy skin. It's good for now till YOU find me a better one. Take your time cause I'm using every drop! ♡

    Thanks for all the hard work. Really appreciate your thoughtful approach. I purchased the Becca last week and am really pleased. I have many of the same issues, pores and pigmentation and oily skin. Found the Becca performed really well and maintains a lovely finish during even hot, humid weather. Prefer Becca to IT Celebration SPF 50 which I feel looks really flat and powdery. However, I do wear IT for longer out door days for the extra protection. Have you tried IT cosmetics Bye Bye Redness? I find that it works well under powder and over liquid foundations to neutralize my really bad spots and allow me a lightweight overall application. Cheers and have courage!

    Hi Angie, I love your channel, been watching for years, this is the first comment I've made. I'm from Australia and 44, starting to see the signs of ageing. I value your opinions and love your reviews. Fantastic advice and recs! Foundation I agree it's tough, it never looks great and most wear terrible. I've just started using Clarins Everlasting and I think I like it. Matt but not flat finish, feels like nothing on the skin and lasts! I was using the EL double wear light, but I think I prefer this. You should give it a try. Again love your work. Always look forward to your vids X

    I'm so bad at commenting. Don't think I have ever left a comment. But I watch your every video and has done so for at least a year. Oh watched most of your older vidos too :) I'm a 55 yr old Swedish woman with nearly your colouring, so many of your recomendations fits me perfectly. There is only that hazzle that I live in Sweden and we really don't have all the brands you have in the US.

    Angie, I love your blog and You Tube channel. So great to see someone so thorough and professional, yet personable. I've watched a few of your posts about foundations for mature skin, and, being well over fifty, thought I would recommend two foundations I've liked quite a bit (although both look best with a primer, my current favorite being Laura Mercier Radiance): Lift Lumiere by Chanel and Double Wear Light by Estée Lauder. If I were forced to choose, I'd probably pick the Chanel because the coverage is amazing. But the Estée Lauder is wonderful, as well, and much more "buildable," as they say. Hope this is helpful. Hate to see you so frustrated!

    I appreciate all the hard work you put into these videos. If you'd like to try a drugstore powder foundation that works well for me (I'm 51 with combo skin), it's the Physicians Formula Talc Free Mineral Wear Powder Foundation (not the airbrushed one). This gives medium to full coverage, does not settle into lines or pores, and wears well throughout the day. Only real con is it does kick up some powder when used with a brush.... using a sponge applicator gives fuller coverage with far less kick up.
    Hope you have a great time on your vacation.

    Thanks for the review. Yes, I do love your FF videos and selfishly hope you do not discontinue them because we have similar skin and issues. BUT I have to say that I've just about given up with powder foundations and heavier pigment products (many concealers etc). All of them sink into pores and accentuate flakes. I just seem to find better success with light liquid foundations and set with loose powder. On hot days I stick with some sort of tinted product and set with loose powder and call it a day. Thx again!
