  • NOTE: I have gotten numerous comments on this video disparaging me as an idiot for complaining about how an articulated rig has to use the intersection to turn. I have deleted those and will continue to delete all such pointless rants.
I understand the realities of driving a big rig, and yes, one has to start left and swing wide to make the turn. The point of the video is that running 140 truck trips of this type (or 12 yard, 5 and 6-axle dump trucks) through this intersection daily for four years will change the safety profile of this road dramatically.
    BACKGROUND:
The Portland Water Bureau has proposed and been given approval by the Multnomah County Planning Department to build a $2.1 billion water filtration facility in rural farmland 25 miles distant from the city core. This will require trucking out 1.2 million cubic yard of dirt, plus tcuking in all of the construction materials, etc.
The Cottrell CPO has fought this vigorously and the case is currently before the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals with a final determination due possibly in October.
In June of 2023, for our testimony to the Multnomah County Planning Department hearings officer, we created a video showing the dangers that truck traffic will pose when 70 truck trips per day are run through the Cottrell/Bluff intersection, which, on a daily bassis, only sees residential and farm traffic.
It was dimissed by PWB as being 'staged'. Huh!
Well, here is a video I captured this morning, 11 June 2024 showing one of the very hazards we had highlighted.
