This video scores on so many levels for me. First, I like the idea of using materials that would otherwise would have been wasted. Second, I quite like the creative ways Jimmy uses his tools. (Not that anything here was particularly out of the ordinary.) On his own channel he repeatedly advises viewers to, "Never do anything with your tools that you see me do with mine." Third, the quick splice of the cordage by braiding the end back into the line, that was excellent! I saw my pop do that at a hardware store with the end of a length of steel cable and I remember thinking it was genius! Great video and a great trip down memory lane! Total thumbs up! Thanks Jimmy!

Is that supposed to be a joke? If not, to anyone who really spends time outdoors, you should know that beavers rarely attack humans. I've been dealing with beavers on my land for 45 years and even when destroying their dams they've never approached me. The only ways you're going to get attacked is if you do something really stupid or you encounter a rabid one.

One of the first projects I made as a boyat about 4 years old with my grandfather teaching me how to weave hemp rope for our rope swing. Ball game on the radio making a monkey knot at the base to grabrb so he and my father could whip us high into the air over the hill. Thanks for bringing up a great memory we had a single rope and a disk though not a log to laconic for an ADD kid.

    Why you shouldn't do this
1 you are cutting down trees (we have enough to of that for papers)
    2 their could be termites
    3 who has the time
4 what is you live in the city. You can't do out side with a ax and cut a tree without someone noticing you (or not near Forrest)
That's why you shouldn't do this

if you use crazy glue on the ends of the rope, it makes it a lot easier to splice! almost makes a crazy glue needle. The ends get trimmed anyway. then white glue (or maybe wood glue) rubbed over the splice will keep it all nicey nicey.

I had a question for you Jimmy, I see you used a manual drills and i have noticed before that sometime you like to use manual tools, is there a reason behind this? As in do you do it because you like to challenge yourself and not use power tools or do you feel you get better results using non powered tool?
Would love to hear your take on that topic as well and show case what you have manual vs powered and the results you get with each.

Great video! Subscribed. I never knew that ropes could be intertwined like that, Ill have to try it! You are a genius man, I get there is very few things you cannot do. Ignore anyone who criticizes tools or methodology. I wish I knew you. How many hours upstate is this area from NYC? Ny friend has a place thats 6 hours up on 20 acres and his wife owned the 150 acres adjacent it it and they combined it. Its incredible that so much land is available, but you need to maintain it and keeping things like knives and guns is a good idea in case of wild animals like bears or whatever.

Having kids in that age... This swing is abit heavy and painfull to get in the face, when swinging back. Kids take turn, waiting behind. Often impatient, they can go to the swing before it has stopped. I can see this heavy half-log hitting the face/mouth/teeth.
