I’m always amazed and filled with joy to hear Nemophila’s range. Yes I generally prefer their originals, but all of their covers are outstanding. It is a great way to promote Nemophila to others that might not have heard of them. Additionally, performing other bands music is an excellent way to broaden their own talent. Fanboy forever. ❤️🌸
'One Night Carnival' is a Japanese Rock classic. In this video, Saki is wearing a pair of sunglasses she got from a Kishidan member. The original version is great, and there's also a good one with SCANDAL and Kishidan's lead singer Sho. Also one with Kishidan and a very young LiSA.
As Saki said at the time, she got the sunglasses from Chōno-san. That's the pro wrestler Masahiro Chōno, not a Kishidan band member. The sunglasses were Chōno's trademark. Saki is a pro wrestling fan and has met Chōno before, when she was in Mary's Blood. At a special World Guitar Girls Collection event in 2018 (separate from Naon no Yaon), which I saw live, they covered Chōno's entrance theme song and Saki wore the glasses.
They're wearing uniforms because stylized school uniforms are a Kishidan trademark. Saki and her brother are Kishidan fans and she has been to their concerts a number of times. This is not the first time Saki has covered Kishidan. In her Mary's Blood days they did so, including a show I saw live, where they wore the uniform tunics.
So glad you finally listened to this wonderful song which I have recommended to you so many times before. Wish you had listen to the original music video at the same time. I hope you might listen to react to that next. Then you will understand outfits they’re wearing. Also recommend watching a live KISHIDAN performance of the song to see how passionate their fan base is. And you’ll also understand MAYU’s dance. The ladies created a note-for-note, beat-for-beat reproduction of the original song, including its wonderfully melodic guitar leads, which have clearly influenced HAZUKI and SAKI. (Compare to the breakdown in MONSTERS.) The character singing the song is a guy endeavoring to NAMPA (pick up) a young lady. So I have to laugh every time MAYU delivers the opening line, “ORE NO TOKORO KONAI KA?” (“Wanna come to my place?”), and then goes on to promise her a night in paradise which will become legend. The screaming parts reproduce lines sung into a bullhorn. Were you puzzled by why MURATA TAMU was wearing a boys school uniform, with her hat askew? The sideways hat way her trademark in another all-girl band she played in years ago. (I say girl, because she was precociously young at the time.)
This might be my 2nd favorite Nemophila cover video, right behind their cover of Iron Maiden's Aces High (which was my introduction to Nemophila). I am still a bit bummed by the loss of Saki, but the band really revolves around the voice of Mayu. I was encouraged by their new video performing Rise as a 4 piece, but the test will be when they start releasing original material.
Kishidan performed “One Night Carnival” on the great channel The First Take. I highly recommend a reaction to it. Nemophila was about to embark on a short tour of a few Zepp venues, and they were playing with a different band at each show. They put out a cover from each of the bands they were playing with; this video is a result of that.
You really should check out the original version (the music video ua-cam.com/video/U4MTW9ZcuQs/v-deo.html ) it's great! Nemophila is doing a great job keeping the feeling but also, as always, have their own touch. There's a whole CD with different artists/bands covering this song, it's awesome!
Fun fact: on the parts where Mayu screams in this cover, the original did not have screaming, but instead the lines were shouted through a bull horn, so she is emulating the sound of a bullhorn with her screams.
This and their cover of NiziU's Happy are my favorite of their many covers, and I had never heard the originals of either prior. You GOTTA go back and see Kishidan's originals; there are many to see and all are fun! Do also check out the NiziU "Happy" cover and go back and see the ultimate JPop girlband song original. You may never get either out of your heads. Both were done during Covid.
This is the Nemophila (Nee-Mo-Fee-La) that was. Saki left the band over a band direction dispute, Akiyama, song writer, also is no longer working with the band. Remaining 4 are working on continuing as is. The pronunciation is Japanese as per their language rules. It's pronounced very differently in English, check Google.
Thanks for the info. We had a look into the name pronunciation before. In English it is pronounced quite differently as the word comes from the Greek language. The way we pronounce it is the way we heard Mayu herself say it (though her L is more of an R). Apparently, it is an issue of debate. Thanks again for taking the time to view and engage. Much appreciated!

They are wearing school uniforms. The naval motif is still big in Japan. Of course, Tamu is wearing a boy's one.
Great information! I didn’t know this. ❤️🌸
