Concentration of power, whether it is government or corporate, is dangerous.

Late to respond but EXACTLY. I work in a union, but I also like, and am friendly with some of my bosses. And I hear stuff on both sides. If either side had too much control they would completely shanghai the other. Not even maliciously although I'm sure there would be plenty of that as well.

@@Regless0000 Never too late, my friend. The founding fathers knew the dangers of the concentration of power. That is why we have separation of powers where different divisions of the government watch and balance out each other.

Of course they won’t. They’ve already made a mockery of it. Let it be their demise as well.

What would make them start doing that? What’s in it for them? The answer is no.

Thanks for putting this out. We are losing the ability to not only express opinions, but to have an exchange of ideas & real conversations which could bring us together!!! Best wishes

They are for free speech as long as it is their speech.

I have been saying for years, free cheese is only in the mousetrap. We should never have accepted free social media services. We should not have been too cheap to invest a couple of dollars for a subscription like we do with Netflix and other things. How can we even begin to complain when we are NOT the customers.
    We are the content.
Willing content because nobody forces us to partake, yet we do.
We don't pay them, yet feel the right to complain.
It's our own damn fault for being gullible, cheap and stupid.

Of course not, hate speech is free speech and these people actively fight against what they perceive as hateful speech

Oh hey, Glen Greenwald. I'm sure we disagree about stuff, but I've heard very good things about him.
The answer is, of course, "no, they won't." Currently they can't even decide whether they're Platforms or Publishers; they will only safeguard their own interests. Despite my love for libertarian ideals, corporations cannot be trusted to right by the people.

My opinion on this is some what complicated.
I don’t see big tech as inherently malevolent, in that they don’t actively work to make people miserable. But I don’t think they might have a accountability problem. The shear size, and pervasiveness of the biggest companies can give the decision makers in them over sized egos, and some unhealthy complexes. Not helping is that role of the internet and social media in American life has evolved faster then good regulatory legislature can keep up with it. We need better fact checker for the crazy s**t online though.
Either way, I don’t see any of these companies turning into the Ministry of Truth of 1984, anytime soon.

You are what you call a partisan. Whether you support Israel or not, you can't deny the fact that Western tech companies and media are biased toward Israel. You don't find it the least bit odd that every single presidential candidate during an election cycle goes to kiss the ring of AIPAC?
Greenwald calls it like it is, if you don't like that, it's likely because you're a partisan hack who only wants to hear things that reinforce your existing bias.

Israel is in a unique position in the world as it pertains to internal and external threats. There are other government entities that could have been used to make his argument. But it was chosen to try and get two birds with one stone when the decision was made to sling mud at Israel.
Israel is surrounded by governments and groups that want only the destruction of Israel and the Jewish People.

@@claycopopo _"Israel is in a unique position in the world as it pertains to internal and external threats"_
If a country makes themselves the most hated country in the region by being violent aholes all the time, that is not some organic anomaly.
_"when the decision was made to sling mud at Israel."_
Virtually every single Western media outlet and politician fall over themselves to kneel before Israel as their number one priority. WTF are you on about?
_"Israel is surrounded by governments and groups that want only the destruction of Israel"_
Israel could trounce every Muslim nation in a conventional war. never mind the fact that they have nukes and the US military at their command. This lie about everyone trying to destroy Israel was force fed to me for years by Christians growing up, and I'm fed up with it.

@Anouk A How many US bases are you aware of in Israel? How many US military members are committed it to the protection of the border of Israel? Since when does having a large/strong military or friends with a large/strong protect you from terrorism?
