We really can learn something from every episode of the GCN Tech Show. Today I learned that there is a senior director of architecture and technology at Dimension Data.
@Jon Cannings... thanks for the Super Nice... my Bianchi is actually an XR1 and yes, has a -20 stem... #lookprogoslow amrite? And if you ever come to Toronto, I'd be happy to show you around and take you on some amazeballz group rides. Cheers!

Hey Jon thanks for the shout out on the colnago. It's a 2017 from the lost lugs. NOS c record. Seat is c94 colnago, my saddle from jr racing. Those wheels were built to ride it. C record wheels stay inside:) cheers
Ollie really buys into it. One gets the impression that after the show, he is off to the bike shop, credit card in one hand, cup of coffee in the other.
Recently acquired a T5 Transporter. Bike in through sliding door complete, nothing off, no hassle, no fiddle. Change inside. Can even sleep in it for away races. Makes that Skoda look stupid.
JON!, you're the BEST...top 3 GCN presenters ! thank you. I NEED that car, why play with my emotions by showing it and following up with "you're not going to be able to, it's very unlikely..." WTH !?
Hey y'all, on episode 77, Hank and Ollie never announced the winner of the previous episode's Screw Riding Upgrades - Buy Upgrades...Why you keeping me hanging? Great show Jon!
The Skoda does have some nifty ideas, but this is definitely for the Euro market. Much too small for the US. What does a single bike with integrated stem do...can't roll the bars. :/ . Toyota US, are you taking notes? Cheers
A bike with tubulars and derailleurs wouldn’t be my first choice for commuting. And it would be interesting to see how the Lotus bike would compare to a modern bike if it was unbanned now.
That car was the most pointless thing yet. "Shall we make it big enough to get a bike in without taking the saddle off and twisting the bars?" 'Nah, just put in a crappy washing machine and a helmet net - that's what cyclists really want!'
As a cyclist the best car for me was a vauxhall/opel. You could configure those cars with a bike rack, which can slide out of the rear bumper (called FlexFix). So it is quick and easy to put your bike on your car. A washing machine or a pressure washer is not needed for most of the trips. The Skoda is using a bike rack on the top of the car, which is not perfectly accessible and leads to extra drag. The idea to create a car for cyclist is great, but the realization is not thought out well.
I have a Dodge mini van. I can put four bikes inside and still have seating for four, and I have a bike rack I can attack to the trailer hitch I can attach four bikes to.
That’s a farce, Skoda! An accessorized station wagon? The ideal car for cyclists was the first generation Mercedes A-Klasse (W168) L long version. Multiple bikes could fit upright, with use of a fork mount, only taking front wheel out, no other pfaffing. No comparable car on the market now.
Love the show Jon That stem, wow 400+gr that’s damn near a pound You said stem right? Not anchor. Your going to need another 5psi in that front tire so you don’t get a pinch flat. Rofl
The perfect cycling car is a Honda Element. Inexpensive, intensely utilitarian and perfectly proportioned for bikes to just roll in and out with no changes. Best part is the car can accomodate 7 bikes.
The only thing for sure, is that a lot of not racers (who are sponsored most of the time anyway) "throw" a ton of money towards their bikes, in a sport that is way too expensive to start with. I do not try to bash here, i just wish i could justify this. (My bike is almost entirely build out of second hand parts) Bike manufactures charge waaaaaaay to much money for what they actually should have charge. I fear that we encourage that policy by keep buying overly expensive bikes & parts! ($4000 wheels anyone? Try to much this price to something else this expensive, a Pro level camera for example. Isn't this nut's????)
The innovations he used to be fast are no different then the technology used in this video to set new records. His got banned, I think this technology should be banned. Part of a record should always be to know your body, not to measure it.
Erik Joosten well I think having data is an important part , with technology rules should change and keeping the one hour record without anything is just mentally demanding on an athlete
John, FYI we can still get Master Piu and Arabesque frames brand new from Colnago. the white bike is probably a recent buy. EDIT: concidering the groupset on it, you probably right, this guy just show off. since 30 years. this huy should be ashamed for that.
I'm glad Malte actually had before and after photos of his #screwridingupgradesbuyupgrades . Anyone could just go buy a bike and submit a picture of the complete build 🤷 What's the point then!
These manufacturers like Silca really take cyclists for a bunch of fools don't they, $175 for a dumb bag? I don't think so. Now the washing machine in my van is a nice idea and I can get one on Amazon for about $55. I'll bet if the washing machine had the Silca name on it it would cost about the same as a full size home machine. Why is everything targeted towards cyclist so damn expensive?
cycling is the art of propelling yourself with only mechanic help. I.e. no chemical or electric help, just muscle and dead material. I like board computers and electronic gearing, but these are kind of cheating in pure cycling terms. In training this online coaching is fine but there is a reason the world hour record is not allowed to be guided by any moving light or 'rabit' . on the other hand, this new discipline has promise :)
The Skoda Karoq is stupid ! Would make more sence with the Roomster. Better room for the bike, a washingmaschine that can was more than your socks. Just saying.
records driven with this kind of technology are no different then records driven by now banned bikes (Like with Graeme Obree). It's just not a pure ride from the rider himself.
Jon I'm a huge fan of you and the channel. I am also a huge fan of "vintage bikes". The example of the Colnago Arabesque a "super nice", really??????????? neigh a sweaty palm nor sweaty butt crack shall reside on this bike for now and forever, It's like the owner removed it from the mantle just for the photo, just for the bike vault. There should be an unwritten rule about bikes not ridden.
The data from ANT+ is so small it could be sent by carrier pidgeon, or read aloud in realtime... its not that much data. The "5G bandwidth" thing is utterly unnecessary.
@@christianburch479 *shrug* ANT+ transmissions are under 40 characters long total. 5G is a crock unless you're livestreaming video and you're interesting.
The Colnago front brake cable housing was way too short, and a poorly thought out build if he stuck a standard chainset instead of a compact on a the ladies first bike.

Regarding the Argon18 photo :: the grey skies help exaggerate the red of the frame, making the bike really pop. Such an awesome pic.

The "follow me" drones actually do it by object recognition and tracking software on the video camera itself. No transmitter required
That Silca bag looks suspiciously like a converted camera bag!
“Screw Riding Up Grades, Buy Upgrades” isn’t the same without Ollie’s dodgy accent.
Ollie really buys into it. One gets the impression that after the show, he is off to the bike shop, credit card in one hand, cup of coffee in the other.
Robb Chastain Ollie is the best 👍😎🚴🏼

Malte need to up his game. Even I (Maltes father) voted for that Colnago:-)

that colnago is amazing

Jon is a little grumpy this week. I love it.
11:48 Correction: that's not a cassette, that's a freewheel. A 7-speed Sunrace 13-28 to be exact.
Correct, yes, but 14-28 to be exact;) - I know cause I paid for it...
The Arabesqueue Colnago is mint possibly because they just re-released it with a limited run. Could be a new frame...
The Silca bag is a stupid idea
it has velcro edges on the panels. Great way to ruin your expensive kit !!
