@@carlosdanielcalderonmontoy3723 yeah, I believe the closest we got was gigguk's fate video. It'd be a beast of a video to make to go through all of the nasuverse hahah
Yes I’m very confused by the pronunciation. Admittedly, I’ve only read ebooks, not listened to any audiobooks from that planet, but it’s definitely not written with that extra “l” in it! So confused.
And here I am like, "Hey, I've published over a million words, overall! That's pretty great!" Sanderson sitting over there, smiling. "Aw, you're a sweet kid." I've only checked out the Mistborn books, thus far, but I'm excited to dive deeper into these worlds. Thanks for the breakdown!
I really love Shadows for Silence in The Forest of Hell! You should read it! Very unusual type of protagonist in fantasy and Threnody is just such a bleak world, I want more stories from that planet T-T
I just read it about a week ago and followed it up with Sixth of the Dusk. They’re both so so good! And it was really special to read one after the other even thought they aren’t related. The themes complement each other.
I just binged all of the Cosmere for the first time these past few months and now I’m listening to the GraphicAudio adaptation of the Stormlight Archive, I can’t get enough
@@ProvidenceNL I'd say just the first of the six parts is fairly underwhelming, but if you can make it through that then you're golden because the rest of it picks up and matches all the other books' GA quality Edit: ONLY the first! The remaining five are great, but the first part can be a bit of a trudge
This was such a great video! I got into the Cosmere during my second year of grad school, started with the Way of Kings not actually realizing who Brandon Sanderson was at the time. I quickly realized what I had stumbled upon and became obsessed! His worlds were so fascinating and I loved how specific and borderline scientific he got with his magic systems. As a biology grad student, this really excited me since you rarely see stuff like that in fantasy. If you want to do another Cosmere deepdive video, I would love to see a Cosmere timeline. I think with your video style it could be a lot of fun!
Mistborn: Final Empire is a near perfect book in a near perfect trilogy. If you want to laugh, cry, rage and just feel exhausted and glad that something so wonderful can exist in this world, Mistborn is the series for you
Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell is Brandon’s most underrated story imo, everyone should read it. One of the best atmospheres in his stories, and the planet of Threnody has some very interesting mysteries and Cosmere-wide implications.
Currently reading the Wheel of Time since the show got me into it. I’m on book 11 so just approaching the Sanderson books. I’ve never read any of his work so I’m hyped (WoT is actually my first fantasy series ever). Thinking of starting the Stormlight Archive next.
Given that you're reading Wheel of Time I'd say go for it. Stormlight is fantastic, and if you like big books (WoT) and trust Brandon to make good stories (finishing WoT) it's a decent place to start. A note about reading order: as long as you read books in the same series in order you're fine. It's cool seeing connections to other books you've read, but it works both ways. You can go straight through, or if you need a breather you can try Warbreaker (good standalone with cool connections) or The Emperor's Soul (excellent standalone novella)
@@OtherTheDave I’ve heard people say this before. I’m much more interested in the Stormlight Archive than Mistborn though. Do you recommend this because Mistborn ties directly into Stormlight Archive, or is that Mistborn is just easier to get into? If it’s the latter, I think I’ll be fine, since at this point I am used to large complex fantasy stories.
@@ramenpower8097 i’m gonna give advice not many here agree with but. Mistborn let me down tremendously. i too read WoT for first time this year, and immediately went to cosmere. Mistborn has such a YA feel with terrible dialogue, i was very surprised considering how people talk about it. Personally i’d try mistborn because it may not bother you, but if the writing does bother you, go straight to stormlight. stormlight is MUCH better imo.
@@ramenpower8097 they are both really good series but they don't tie into each other from what I remember. But I will agree with the other guy that stormlight is a much better book than mistborn. I greatly enjoyed both, but the way Sanderson ties up the ends of his stormlight books is just on a whole other level. There is a reason the term "Sanderlanche" was coined to begin with.
Thanks so much for this! I really wanted to get into the cosmere but the sheer amount of content was a little paralyzing, I had no idea where to even BEGIN. What a "complaint" to have 😂 All thanks to Mr. Sanderson for his hard work
I discovered the Cosmere just this year as I got back into reading during a very difficult time in my life. I recently just finished Rhythm of War a few weeks ago, and I don't know where I'd be without these books. Sanderson has created a form adventurous escapism unlike anything I've ever experiences. I'm so incredibly thankful for Sanderson, the team at Dragonsteel, and his books.
Out of curiosity, how did you feel about Rhythm of War (both objectively and in comparison to other Stormlight books)? I know it's somewhat controversial in the community (or at least on BookTube; the overall ratings on Goodreads seem in line with other Stormlight books).
@@Vashurz I loved it. Especially Kaladin's arc. Although, the amount of fabrial exploration and experiments was a bit excessive and quite boring at times. Because of that large portion of the book, the pacing was a little iffy. Other than that, it was fantastic. And extremely painful. I loved many of the character dynamics, and some of the action scenes are the best Sanderson has written in my opinion. It's my 3rd favorite Stormlight book at the moment.
I started reading the Cosmere and Wheel of Time because of your videos. Now I’ve finished WOT, Mistborn Era 1, Warbreaker, and am on the second Stormlight book. Thank you for introducing me to these great stories!
I remember the first thing I ever heard about the Cosmere was the neat forms of investiture as hard magic systems maybe 3ish years ago. I'm so happy to see Sanderson become this modern equivalent of the big fantasy novelist, his works are great and I'm super excited for anything new he puts out or adaptations.
I bought Mistborn, Elantris and TSA because of you goblin and enjoyed them immensely. Haven't yet gotten to Warbreaker but I surely will once my ever expanding TBR pile slims a little bit. Cheers!
I went through all of Sanderson's books so quickly when I discovered him, I feel like when the new Stormlight and Mistborn entries come out I'm just going to have to read through both respective series again. Normally I'm not really forgetful, but Sanderson packs so, so, so much in to his books that I feel like I'll miss key callbacks and hints to the overall Cosmere narrative if I don't give myself a refresher.
Selling or giving away Daniel green autographed merch is actually a smart business move. You’ve built a following , the market is ripe and ready for the pickn’.
Great Breakdown my dude, good summaries of the books without giving anything away. Mistborn was how I started with Sanderson's books. The Stormlight Archive I believe is what he really wants to be a large part of his legacy. Always enjoy your content.
For anyone wondering, while it says 3,460,000, it's because it doesn't count white sands, if you add up all the word counts together of his cosmere works, you get 3,665,534 for a very exact number. Subtract 200,000 from the total to not count white sands and you get 3,465,534 which is ~6000 more words than what it says there meaning you could basically not count one of the short stories and still get a similar word count.
I got into Sanderson because of you and Merphy. I've now read all of the cosmere and the cytoverse books and am going to Dragonsteel this year. I've also got 4 other friends and family members into him as well. Thanks for introducing me to the latest thing I love!
I convinced my girlfriend to read Stormlight and she just finished The Way of Kings and turned to me and said “well, at least that was the longest one” and I’ve since repeatedly told her that it’s probably one of the shortest I think she’s repressing it because she won’t stop saying that. She’s a trooper.
The whole cosmere is breathtaking. Absolute masterpieces each and every one (that I have read). I do favor the stormlight archives above the rest of the cosmere since The way of kings has shaped fundamentals in my personality and oathbringer pulled me through religious struggles. Absolutely best books out there. Thank you Brandon Sanderson!
Great video! Take a shot everytime Daniel says "Scaladriel". I can't blame him with Rings of Power coming up though... Galadriel is on all our minds ;)
It think this is the perfect spirit to take Daniel's slips of the tongue. My mother was dyslexic & I ended up having to "unlearn" a lot of her words when i went to uni. Mad props to Daniel being brave enough to grow a channel like his with natural word salad and fanbases who obsess on the detail. I'll take those shots 🙂
While I have read of few of Sanderson’s books when I was a kid. It wasn’t until recently that I became a fan of Sanderson’s work, in part due to your videos. Thank you for making a clear and concise explanation of his universe. Keep up the good work :)
Just found your channel recently because of Berserk. I'm on my second readthrough of the entire Cosmere, and currently about halfway through Hero of Ages in anticipation for The Lost Metal. This was the first world, or universe, of stories that got me excited about fantasy after reading ASoIaF and Ive had so much fun with it. B$ is insane, he writes as fast as Stephen King and its awesome. Next year is going to be so much fun with the THREE new Cosmere stories and hopefully he'll be done with SA 5 for a '24 release. I've recently started Gardens of the Moon and read Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn. I finished Name of the Wind and TWMF and also all the Joe Abercrombie books too but other than Malazan I don't know where to go from here, can anyone recommend some more awesome Fantasy I haven't found yet?
@@SquiredCircle I've heard of Robin Hobb, I didn't know how good her books were but I might put her popular one on my list. I can't remember what it's called but I can find it. Thanks for the recommendation.
As a person who started in the Cosmere thanks to your recommendations, I really wanted to say thank you. Currently reading oathbringer and alloy of law, but man these stories are great!
I would love a breakdown of what we know about the cosmere as a whole and the world jumpers. what books they have made appearances in and what we know about them and there motives so far.
This is just what I needed. I just recently started the mistborn trilogy and finished the second book and I’m ready for hero of ages. This clears up a lot.
I’ve only read the Mistborn series so far. And I cried like a baby at the end of hero of ages. Wow. That sucker punched me so hard. And it’s one of my favorite fantasy series of all time. Right up there with LOTR for me. Im eager to keep reading Sanderson works. He’s fast becoming one of my favorite top tier authors.
Been watching your channel for a while and finally started Stormlight this year. The series has completely reinvigorated my love for reading I had as a kid and sort of lost due to being in school and now a profession that requires alot of reading and can be tiring. I've loved it so far and am currently reading Oathbringer! Will be reading everything Sanderson for sure.
There are people that are avoiding any and all spoilers that have to do with secret projects, so they're generally left out of these lists. Once they're released it'll be open season, but until then even the titles are considered spoilers to some.
Big improvement over the Malazan video. I still think the focus on word count is unnecessary but having it listed for each book is fine. More summaries here helped but it was still vague for spoiler reasons I guess. A bit more of a "sales pitch" for each series at the end and more of a conclusion about why the cosmere is so good i think would help. I look forward to more breakdown vids in the future.
Mistborn was one of my first entries in the Fantasy genre, and also the reason I got into your channel. Thanks to both you and Mistborn I started reading books (mostly Fantasy) more frequently, it's been an absolute joy so far.
I am so excited about both the mistborn movie news and eragon tv show news lately, and with the writer showrunning on both. I really think that paolini and sanderson know better than to make the mistakes the wheel of time show did. They both have very clear examples of how NOT to do a live action adaptation (eragon movie for paolini and wheel of time show for sanderson)
What's wrong with the current wheel of time show? I think it's quite good, even though it is not a 100% faithful adaptation. Do you mean the 2015 pilot episode?
I like that you actually dressed like Brandon does (including a shirt that he has worn while streaming). I'm not sure if anyone else noticed, but I sure did.
lets not forget that Brandon has stated that he has a master plan roughly sketched out for the entire cosmere that includes a totally of at least 40 books to be eventually written. so we are not even halfway in.
Brandon Sanderson is the Eiichiro Oda of writing fantasy epics. That man's work ethic and writing schedule is an absolute inspiration. Details: He's the one that convinced me that writing long form is possible by just doing it daily. Treating writing like work* has absolutely changed my life for the better. *For clarity: by work I mean putting in the same effort and energy in my own writing that I would in my own profession.
Once I finish the Expanse and His Dark Materials, I'm thinking of tackling one of the big guys - either Wheel of time (I read the first book and I'm conflitced if I would manage to go through the slump) or the Way of Kings. I guess you reccomend both ;)
I'd recommend finding a good cosmere reading order if you haven't read any of it yet. everyone's opinion on this is different but I recommend mistborn era 1 as a good starting spot
My own take, but cosmere is much better than WOT. Theres way to much of a dry spell in the middle of WOT to make it worth my time. I’ve tried multiple times and can never get past the 4th book.
@@Nixxos I've read Mistborn era one, and Alloy of Law. Loved the first one, couldn't care less about the second era. I have read some other epic sagas, I just can't make myself to read SUCH huge series ^^'
@@zofiabochenska1240 If you want something shorter I'd recommend reading warbreaker at some point! It's definitely one of the weaker cosmere works but still good and it's a standalone at the moment. There are characters in it which you need to know before words of radiance for a reason I won't say as well :) I'm on book 6 of wheel of time and i really love it so far but it's very longwinded unless you're someone who loves worldbuilding and knowing characters deeply like i do! I'd also highly recommend the kingkiller chronicles. Stormlight is my favorite book series but kingkiller is the best series I've ever read. It's an incredible masterpiece (I think daniel underappreciated it if you've seen his videos on it) and beautifully and meticulously written
I feel like the four novels he wrote in secret and then kickstarted to publish through his own company which became the largest kickstarter in history is worth a mention here as well. The man is going to be releasing FIVE novels in the next eighteen months
As a Shardcaster this isn't what I expected for this video at all, but I can definitely see why having a solid idea of what conforms the Cosmere is good for new fans. Also, you did miss mentioning the essays in Arcanum Unbounded, which aren't published anywhere else.

I really respect how you said you wouldn’t talk about POV characters in a sequel book because you didn’t want to spoil who is alive in book 2. So many reviewers and book tubers don’t understand that discussing characters in later books in “no spoiler” reviews is a spoiler. Even when they aren’t in reviews and just casually talking about later books in series. It’s so frustrating. That literally spoils if a character lives throughout a series.
First time I tried to read Mistborn, I had trouble getting into it. Picked it up again and so happy I did. I've now finished alll the Mostborn books of both series and love them.
I'm currently a little light on the novellas, but I've read all of the main books in the cosmere I believe, and honestly, I really think my favourite so far is rhythm of war! I remember all of your mixed feelings being very reasonable and valid, but I just love that book and I can't wait for book 5 (and the inevitable gut-punch that'll come with it )!
I'm really digging these breakdowns. I was wondering if you were considering doing the Dark Tower Universe at some point. I know that's a massive task considering how much of Kings work is tied into the Tower but that'd be an amazing Breakdown
This is an amazing simple explanation of the Cosmere. I’d love to see a video by you explaining more in depth and maybe discussing theories. I’m very new to the channel and don’t know if you do stuff like that, but it would pique my interest a lot to listen to something like that.
I think my new favorite Cosmere novel is Tress of the Emerald Sea. It was a surprise release after this video came out. But I wanted to let anybody who wants something a little more light and fun but still VERY Brandon know that it's out there and could be a fun introduction and example of Brandon insane ability to develop worldbuiling, magic systems, and character.
Started Cosmere a couple months ago and can't stop. Did try giving myself a break and go back to The Wheel of Time but had to put that down and jump right back into the Cosmere.
Wonder why we are getting only a novella of Silverlight. The whole idea of Shadesmar is so interesting I think there's enough content for a full novel at least Also; Words of Radiance is my favorite book ever!
Thanks for inspiring me to dive into the Cosmere. I love Mistborn (both eras) so much and I'm currently in the middle of the Stormlight archive (just finished Words of Radiance). Thanks Dan!
This Brado Sando Multiverse puts most multiverses to shame and yeah I got a feeling things will start to connect but I've also heard that it will be more along the lines of Star Trek First Contact than War of Worlds
Shadows for Silence is the best work I've read from Sanderson. And I read entire Cosmere except for Stormlight stuff, Legion and Snapshot. It's incredibly atmospheric in an insane world. I really hope he'll return to this planet in some of the later books.
Only started reading the Cosmere in February of this year, and I'm about 80% of the way through now. It's become my favorite fantasy franchise, and right up there with Star Wars in my favorite franchises overall. So far my favorite books of the cosmere are Oathbringer (Dalinar is such an amazing character), Warbreaker (I really like the magic system and Nalthis is the cosmere world I'm most intrigued by), and Alloy of Law (I love the "urban western" setting of Mistborn Era 2, despite a lot of other cosmere fans apparently not being that into it).
I tried REALLY hard to avoid spoilers here so please keep the comments the same. Nothing is worse than spoiling a story for someone.

@@carlosdanielcalderonmontoy3723 yeah, I believe the closest we got was gigguk's fate video. It'd be a beast of a video to make to go through all of the nasuverse hahah
@@Lull___ 🤣🤣🤣indeed, I wrote a summarized and "go to the point" guide to enter the Nasuverse and it took me a LOT of time xD
I was wondering when the next breakdown would be and the fact that it's the Cosmere makes me so excited.
I know it is because of dyslexia, but each time I heard "Scaladrial" instead of Scadrial something inside me died, I couldn't get used to it lol
Yes I’m very confused by the pronunciation. Admittedly, I’ve only read ebooks, not listened to any audiobooks from that planet, but it’s definitely not written with that extra “l” in it! So confused.
I definitely took psychic damage every time he added the extra L. 😅
And here I am like, "Hey, I've published over a million words, overall! That's pretty great!"
Sanderson sitting over there, smiling. "Aw, you're a sweet kid."
I've only checked out the Mistborn books, thus far, but I'm excited to dive deeper into these worlds.
Literally squealed when he mentioned it - looking forward to the 4th Secret Project with Nomad and the Threnodites
I just binged all of the Cosmere for the first time these past few months and now I’m listening to the GraphicAudio adaptation of the Stormlight Archive, I can’t get enough
Love the GA versions!
Its a shame that book 4 is so underwhelming on Graphic audio, apparently the director was changed and alot of stuff just got...worse.
@@ProvidenceNL I'd say just the first of the six parts is fairly underwhelming, but if you can make it through that then you're golden because the rest of it picks up and matches all the other books' GA quality
Edit: ONLY the first! The remaining five are great, but the first part can be a bit of a trudge
@@ProvidenceNL that explains why there are literally zero Rhythm of War GA clips on UA-cam lmao
The GA adaptations of Stormlight are *chefs kiss* amazing
If you want to laugh, cry, rage and just feel exhausted and glad that something so wonderful can exist in this world, Mistborn is the series for you
You can tell how much I love mistborn by the little cheer and dance I did when you mentioned it.
In addition to all of this, the community is amazing and the fan wiki is the best I’ve ever seen, shout-out to the 17th Shard!
this is amazing, thankyou so much goblin!
I’d recommend starting with Mistborn. They’re both great series, though.
I really appreciate that you released a Cosmere video on the 16th.
Brandon Sanderson is one of my favorite Fantasy authors. I have enjoyed reading his books and I love them all so far.
The video we've all been waiting for
I started reading the Cosmere and Wheel of Time because of your videos.
Cheers!
I've read most of Sanderson's works. He is my all time favorite author.
I'm so excited you are doing this. I just finished book2 of mist born. I love the deep breakdowns that you do. thank you
Me too, finished that book today.
@@costelinha1867 @jarrodcavett2163 I'm working on book two right now. Just got past page 500 :)
This was extremely helpful just reading the first 2 Mistborn books, I now know what to look forward to and thank you for not spoiling
Isn't it Scadrial not Scaladrial?
Isn’t Scaladrial that elf from LotR?
No. My son is also named Scaladrial.
Lol yes you are correct
Yup! I got a fat dumb tongue.
@@DanielGreeneReviews It's ok Dalaniel, we stil love you 😁
This video made me realize I've never read Warbreaker. Thanks Daniel! Going to pick up the audio book now.
Perfect timing, I just dragged my best friend into a cosmere reading journey to prep for the MB7 release convention!
How was this not a video before now? I feel a re-read coming on, thanks DG
Have you read Wheel of Time yet?
*Fonda Lee
have you tried some Robin Hobb? she is basically cozy game of thrones
@@SquiredCircle I've heard of Robin Hobb, I didn't know how good her books were but I might put her popular one on my list. I can't remember what it's called but I can find it. Thanks for the recommendation.
@@terrafinosix6130 I've thought about starting it, it's on my list but I'll probably save it for later. Thanks for the suggestion though.
As a person who started in the Cosmere thanks to your recommendations, I really wanted to say thank you. Currently reading oathbringer and alloy of law, but man these stories are great!
Emperors Soul and Warbreaker are a couple of my absolute favorite Brando Sando stories!
I would love a breakdown of what we know about the cosmere as a whole and the world jumpers. what books they have made appearances in and what we know about them and there motives so far.
Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell is one of my favorite things that Sanderson has written.
This is just what I needed. I just recently started the mistborn trilogy and finished the second book and I’m ready for hero of ages. This clears up a lot.
Love this video mate. A+ job summarizing it!
Way of kings blew my mind when it came out and continues to do so with each reread. Shadows for silence is & Emperors Soul are my go to stories. Love!
Lots of work went into this. Appreciate your grind.
For the upcoming projects did you include the 3 out of 4 secret projects that are set in the cosmere?
There are people that are avoiding any and all spoilers that have to do with secret projects, so they're generally left out of these lists. Once they're released it'll be open season, but until then even the titles are considered spoilers to some.
Big improvement over the Malazan video. I still think the focus on word count is unnecessary but having it listed for each book is fine. More summaries here helped but it was still vague for spoiler reasons I guess. A bit more of a "sales pitch" for each series at the end and more of a conclusion about why the cosmere is so good i think would help. I look forward to more breakdown vids in the future.
Shadows for Silence is so awesome. I think it’s so unique and the main character is a very different archetype than you normally get in fantasy.
@@JPK314 if it was just "not 100% faithful" it'd be fine but they changed a TON of major things about major characters and plot points
I have the first ideal on my jacket at work. Really do love that series.
My Brandon Sanderson books are among my prized possessions. They are so precious (gollum voice) to me. Their contents in second to none.
That zoom in when you said "Thredodebutite!" 🤣🤣
This is like the fourth time I’m watching this video. These breakdown videos are awesome and reading through the Cosmere made me want to revisit it!
The plan is to start mistborn next month, ur videos were one of the main motivations 😂
Brandon Sanderson is the Eiichiro Oda of writing fantasy epics.
That man's work ethic and writing schedule is an absolute inspiration.
Details:
He's the one that convinced me that writing long form is possible by just doing it daily.
@@Nixxos Warbreaker is fire what do you mean?
I feel like the four novels he wrote in secret and then kickstarted to publish through his own company which became the largest kickstarter in history is worth a mention here as well. The man is going to be releasing
FIVE novels in the next eighteen months
Depending on how early into 2024 SA5 comes out it might be six. Seven if you count the horneater peaks novella
I just started reading The Way of Kings and I'm loving it so far. I can't wait to able to connect all the dots in this universe.
I already got my free copy of the iron prince, I am so glad you recommended the book.
As a Shardcaster this isn't what I expected for this video at all, but I can definitely see why having a solid idea of what conforms the Cosmere is good for new fans. Also, you did miss mentioning the essays in Arcanum Unbounded, which aren't published anywhere else.
We finally have a cosmere video from Daniel again. Cheers Goblins!
I’m only a little more than half way though the Cosmere and I’m loving it. The Cosmere community is fantastic and I can’t wait to get through the rest so I can listen to more podcasts and look at fan art without spoilers!
PS your RAFO shirt is awesome. I definitely need one!
What one would you feel is your favorite? I’ve only read the first two
@@corey4370 Stormlight archive books are my favorite. There are 3 right now.
Please read shadows for silence and do a review of some kind. Great story. Very unique for the Cosmere.
This is an amazing simple explanation of the Cosmere. I’d love to see a video by you explaining more in depth and maybe discussing theories. I’m very new to the channel and don’t know if you do stuff like that, but it would pique my interest a lot to listen to something like that.
I think my favs are WOR and ROW (yeah I know that you like how they mirror each other)
Shadows for Silence in the Forrests of Hell is one of Sanderson's best. Really hope that world gets more time in the spotlight some day.
Imo, Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell is Brandon's most underrated work for me. Big fan of that one.
Thanks. This was a good reminder that I still have two novellas/short stories to read.
Great overview of the Cosmere, Daniel!
Started Cosmere a couple months ago and can't stop. Did try giving myself a break and go back to The Wheel of Time but had to put that down and jump right back into the Cosmere.
This has come at a timely moment for me! Just started Way of Kings (and have read a few other Sandersons in the Cosmere)
Wonder why we are getting only a novella of Silverlight. The whole idea of Shadesmar is so interesting I think there's enough content for a full novel at least
Also; Words of Radiance is my favorite book ever!
Thanks for inspiring me to dive into the Cosmere. I love Mistborn (both eras) so much and I'm currently in the middle of the Stormlight archive (just finished Words of Radiance). Thanks Dan!
Enjoying these vids! It’s nice to get a background of series to get some interest in books in the TBR shelf!
Thank you for making this!!!
I had on my RAFO shirt yesterday. It is an almost weekly wardrobe staple.
Thank you for keeping it spoiler free. I still haven’t jumped in but really want too.
