I had an 85 when I was doing a lot of heavy Ag jobs a couple years back. That thing was a beast. Sold it after the work dried up and now own a 30XP for use in my home shop. It too is a beast for its size. The 30XP handles everything I need. It’s also 110/220 so I can run it and my 220V compressor at the same time. Also, side note, that “postflow” of air, is designed to cool the consumables and make them last longer. I do tap my trigger to shut it off on occasion but it’s best practice to let it run.

Looks like I'm at the right clip, I bought one at an auction and brand new never opened for 350 dollars. I've bought a 16 cfm air compressor and will see about ordering the Hypertherm filter and then I'm going to cut up 6mm walled old bore casing that's going to be used as post.

Just for your edification. The reason it has post flow is to cool the head so don’t shut it off. Secondly, if your air hose is not 100’ or longer your filter isn’t going to trap shit, especially when the air in the tank becomes hot from extended compressor use. The filters are designed to trap water not vapor.
I have a 2013 Powermax 45 and its by far one of the best handheld plasma cutters ive used.. Makes building trailers and having to cut steel a breeze instead of a loud chop saw
If was stripping an old floor on a steel trailer (approximately 4 or 6 mm . Sometimes corrosion is present! Would this have any impact on the machine ,tips etc ??!!
Hi! Great video! First of all for those people below that don't think they can afford one of these, there are many great barely "used" ones out there for a fraction of the price of new. I just bought one as a gift for my son. My used one did not come with any consumables and I would like to gift it to my son with some included. Do I have to buy the Hypertherm Powermax45xp consumables? Or are there cheaper brands that fit and do the same? This is Mom asking so please be nice! I am asking because I simply don't know anything about these other than researching which one to buy.
just noticed something while watching this.... your machine has basically zero seconds of post flow....? it shuts the air off super quick when the cut is finished. On my 45 XP its always running at least 3-5 seconds of post flow and sometimes even more if its a longer cut. Is one of our machines broken or? Edit: just went back and watched this again and saw the part where you said to tap the trigger to cut the air off when ur done to stop the post flow....

Hypertherm is awesome, no otherone cut like them. But the price is too high for me. Even consumables are hard to find in my third word country. So I use a copy of Hypertherm consumables in a chinese cheap machine, pilot modification and air pressure control (the chinese machine didnt have it), study about consumables patent, and incredibly, it works a lot more better. Is not the Hypertherm high quality, but it work pretty nice and is affordable for my. The day I stopped been poor, I will buy a Hypertherm.
You can use as a little as a 6 gallon pancake compressor as long as it can produce 6cfm at 90psi. We are using an 80 gallon compressor in our shop we use for plasma cutting and air tools.
the XP30 does 5/8 ths have one, it does 1/4 easily then XP 30 air only does 1/2 inch . the only advantage of the XP air is it has its own compressor built in. the XP45 is a very good machine if you are a regular cutter of 1/2 inch or more.
Please do not to the "trick" to stop the airflow. The torch needs the air to cool the consumables. Unless I guess you like changing out the consumables long before they normally wear out. I got that direct from Hypertherm when they were out to my shop. YMMV!
@@BakersGas don't get me wrong hypertherm are probably considered the best, but they equivalent thermal dynamics models will do just as Well for considerably less
That filter setup looks like a disaster waiting to happen ..You need to build a cart with a cage and your air fitting poking out of a piece of steel plate or it will get ripped off hanging on the back like that .

what size air compressor are you using?
I run a 17 cfm with 60 litre tank with my Powermax 45, and it does trip the compressor a fair amount.
