Ukraine “Drone Attack” Hits Russian Oil Refinery, Military Airfield, Electricity Substation

- On July 9, Russian officials reported that Ukraine had launched dozens of drones in a series of attacks across several regions. These strikes resulted in the death of one person and caused fires at two power substations and an oil depot. On July 8, Russia carried out a devastating attack on Kyiv's main children's hospital in broad daylight and unleashed missiles on other cities, leading to the deaths of at least 41 civilians in the deadliest wave of air strikes in months.
Video footage revealed a fire and what appeared to be a drone strike and subsequent explosion at an oil depot in Kalach-on-the-Don, located in Russia's southern Volgograd region. Additional footage showed a fire at a power substation in Rostov, which was extinguished after Ukraine launched "tens" of drones overnight, according to Vasily Golubev, the governor of the Russian region, who shared this information on Telegram.
A security source, who wished to remain anonymous, informed Reuters that Ukrainian drones targeted a Russian oil refinery, a military airfield, and an electricity substation in an overnight joint operation conducted by Kyiv's security and military intelligence agencies. The attacks reportedly struck the Akhtubinsk airfield in Russia's southern Astrakhan region, an oil refinery in the Volgograd region, and an electricity substation in the Rostov region.
While the exact dates of the videos could not be independently verified, Russian official sources confirmed fires at the oil depot in Kalach-on-the-Don and the substation in the Rostov region.
