    just rode my one home from the dealer ! wow ! the torque is really there to use and it is so sure footed (in my opinion) that i was able to lean into all the corners and roundabouts on the 50km journey home ! I have been very fortunate to have had an opportunity to ride a Trident 660 several times now and I absolutely love it! It is so much fun and it's so torque ridden in the low RPMs--it's very forgiving if you find yourself in the wrong gear. My girlfriend's daughter bought one of these and I have been teaching her on how to ride it, along with all of my acquired defensive driving skills I've pickup from years of driving 18 wheelers and with my years of safety training in construction and oil and gas industries. I am hoping that my imparted knowledge will help to keep her safe as she navigates riding around all of these crazy aggressive drivers out on the roads today. Anyway, the 660 is such a great bike! I really want one but I think would graduate up to a Street Triple 765 RS. The 765 still gets really great mpg but has more features and more power. The 1200 only gets like 37 mpg so I think that the 765 would be the perfect balance in the middle for me--but there is certainly nothing wrong with this 660. It's the first 3 cylinder I've EVER ridden and I would NOT go back to a 4 cylinder because of it! Triples just sound way too awesome to give that great sound up--and especially with their much flatter torque curves, seems like a no-brainer to me.

    You have chosen one of the best motorcycles on the international market today according to my opinion and without discrediting the large number of models. Triumph is a lifelong brand that has contributed to many innovations and very good ideas such as the three-cylinder engine, which is a great success, and very successful models such as this motorcycle or the Tigers or the Speed Triple 1200 or the Street Triple. 765 RS which is the one that I like the most and that I cannot buy not because of its reasonable price but because I would have to separate from my wife before because she is against motorcycles. Just a sidenote, the preload adjuster is just there to set the correct ride hight (negative and positive suspention travel) under different loads. It is not there to adjust the stiffness of the ride... That only works if you have fully adjustable dampers.

      @@RocketMan_Moto yea, looking forward to it, good reviews so far. I know I had the same discussions on my harley sportster. Quite a firm ride and some people suggested to meddle with the preload. People that knew their shit the told me that preload makes shure that when loading the bike, you have about 2 thirds positive susp travel an 1 third negative. Load the bike more, crank up the preload to get the optimal travel, when traveling light, you have to soften it as not to have zero negative travel. The actual stiffness shou not be impacted, just the travel. But max positive travel means no negative...hence, there is only one optimal setting for each load.

    The slightly high fuel consumption is not because the engine is "tight". I promise you it isn't. The fuel consumption will be better at higher revs (which I'm aware isn't the common belief) which you can use when you've finished the run-in procedure.

    I can see these bikes 10 years from now having never had the oil changed. as a professional mechanic I strongly recommend changing the oil every 3000 miles or every year whichever one comes first. Extended maintenance intervals exist for the convenience of the customer not the health of the machine.

    • @guyr7351
      @guyr7351 3 роки тому

      surely it depends on the use of the engine, short rides with an initial cold engine and lots of stop starts will be harder on the oil than longer rides where any moisture is blown out the exhaust, engine oil gets nice and hot and fully circulated. Allways use decent quality oil, my car (diesel) has so called "intelligent" oil service schedules and typically are around 16K which is less than a year. its done 174K miles and still is very sweet. There will be riders who think its 10,000 miles which might take them 3 years to reach. I know bikes rev higher but it does surprise me the short service intervals V cars

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC 3 роки тому

      @@guyr7351 usage does make a difference but extended intervals cause more build-up in the engines which can and does take out things like cam phasers etc. your truck may be running well but I guarantee that there is more junk inside the engine than there would be if you change the oil more often.

    I'm 72 and returning to riding after 40+ years. My last bike was a 1976 Honda CB400F and I loved it. So I was planning on going Japanese after taking the MSF Basic Course this March. That is, until my nephew told me about the Trident. He's been riding since he could walk and was excited about the upcoming release of the Trident 660. We don't have the Trident 660 here yet so I've spent the last month reading and watching all I could. I too prefer the silver, but I will not live with the red "accents". Unfortunately, from what I've seen of all four Trident color combos, not even the matte black bike has black radiator side covers. They're silver. So rather than have the red "accents" of the silver bike professionally painted, I can live with the matte black Trident 660 and maybe even learn to love the colors, though that bright white Triumph logo is a little loud. I agree with you, Triumph definitely blew it with the silver/red combo. Yet, even if the Trident 660 only came in yellow/vomit, I would still want to test ride it and probably buy it and have it repainted if it's anywhere near as good as the reviews. Thanks for your posting and I look forward to your one month review. Good luck and blessings with your new Trident 660!

    Glad you like your new investment; may that continue going forward.
    I have never ridden the bike, it’s true; so I’m not really in a position to comment. But, the non existent rear seat is a deal breaker for me. A lot of modern motorcycles, not just this particular motorcycle give the appearance of a front end smash. Same applies to the abortion that constitutes the rear light etc hanger. Things I suppose one has to put up with.
    Which is all a great a shame because the engine sounds excellent. Triumph must be happy; but I can’t help believing that Triumph have missed a great opportunity here.
    I’m lucky in that I have a modest stable of motorcycles. Last year I test rode a Bonnie, not impressed at all. So I bought an Interceptor. At £5600 it is as cheap as chips, but it does have a centre stand as standard and a great choice of colour-ways.
    I agree with your comments about the crappy indicators etc. I’m 6ft and 15 stone and my wife is 5’10. The Inty carries us both comfortably at all speeds, even on highish mileage day. The foot pegs are well placed, my knees don’t feel bent or my feet too high and my wife simply loves riding on the bike as much as she likes riding on my CBF 1000 A7. The Inty is now my go to bike, it is so easy to ride. I don’t need a 100 horses. It is amazing that a 47bhp engine performs so well in the real world.
    Isn’t this what makes motorcycling the great church that it is. Such diversity with something to please everyone, well most people.
    Enjoy your bike and ride safe

      @@RocketMan_Moto Yes, you mentioned your intention to do that on your video.
      Mind, I am still gonna have a test ride on one when our political masters release us from lockdown.
      We tried a Kawasaki RS 900 and my wife found the grab rail stuck in her back, this was a used bike with an aftermarket part on. Due to Covid new bikes are not getting to the showrooms. It will be interesting to try a brand new RS without the aftermarket part and see what she thinks of it.
      You see, I cannot buy a bike that is not capable of carrying a passenger; so quite a few brilliant bikes are out of the question.

    I make 5.8 litres / 100km to be almost 49 MPG. i.e. 5.8 litres /4.54 = 1.27 UK gallons. 100km / 1.61 = 62 miles . 62 Miles / 1.27 Gallons = 48.9 MPG . (some minor rounding)
    I guess that will get better once run in . My derestricted Street Triple 660 did about 55 MPG to 59MPG (as reported by the dash, I never did check it properly) , I guess it should be a bit better than that.
    Ahh , and I just read your Erratum . Must read the description :)

      You're quite right. I just 'asked Siri' and she messed up. I didn't check my figures, apologies :)

    AustinRacing exhaust would bring out the noise of this triple.

      I’ll take a look, but I’m quite happy with the sound of the stock exhaust👍

    Great video, I'm still thinking am I going to be too old to be riding this bike at 50 after seeing ages of people who are interested in the trident ! Silver is the colour to have but could be a bit less red.. waiting to see how build quality stands up, Trident 660 or CB650r ??!

      I'm 57, David, so you should be ok :) The Honda is a 4-cylinder, so needs revving more, which with my arthritic fingers is no fun, lol

      @@RocketMan_Moto Thanks I don't feel so bad at 50 yrs old now ! Yes I do love a triple(shouldn't have sold my xsr900). I'm on a Xv950 v twin at moment so like low down torque , the 4 cyl might be to revvy😵

      Too old David? I'm 72 and riding a Yamaha FZ07. It's okay, get what you like, nobody cares. I find those age surveys interesting, but essentially meaningless.

    Comprehensive review.. looking forward to a test ride so I can compare my own thoughts to your comments, just purely out of interest.. The Trident is a nice looking bike, just not a bike for me.. I'm quite happy with the GtPro and VFR currently sitting in my garage..
