I think it's a beginner drone and an intermediate drone too. As beginner drone it basically flies itself, without controllers, but also you can fly it with your phone as a controller. So its a baby drone thats advanced for your upgrade should you want to use the controller. Then in the fly more combo which makes sense to buy it TBH. You can whip out the controller and fly it, HOWEVER this is where the intermediate skill set is in play. As you fly it different as its controlled by you with the controller. It's actually a little more difficult to do if you are used to flying the mini or air series, as they have all the obstacle avoidance features, where this is basic and only use the camera to sense its path, which is no longer in auto mode if its being flown without a controller, as YOU have the controller lol If I make sense, I do in my head lol. So it can be both a learner and a teacher drone lol Epic videos BTW
It's the best! Small size and weight is everything, like the action cameras, that's why for me it's always an Insta Go camera and DJI Neo in my trips! Negatives are the battery time (it's actually 8 minutes in 4K), not good flying in wind conditions, and not a 9:16 aspect radio in recordings, which should be there for social media, video quality is not that great, and automatic flying modes do not fly too far (should be at least 50m for every mode). If they improve these things in next Neo models and keep this size and weight that low, I will keep buying these!
i love the fact that this thing can hook up to a remote control, and still keep those personal shots - like follow etc. i would really enjoy using this, as its a follow you drone i heard it doesn't require a licence, in my country as its so small. BUT the major drawback for me is the noise, jeeze! took me forever to find someone who would let us hear the noise (thank you) - the other folding one from insta (i think) is just as noisy... i would take this out in the world! but the last thing i wanna do is scare (stress) the wildlife away. if it was quieter, i would definitely be in the market for this, absolutely. fantastic video my friend. have a great weekend.
I can totally see this following my kids especially when playing sports or maybe taking a ride down an open ski trail. I'm impressed how hard you tried to lose it and it kept finding you
Honestly, the DJI Neo is AMAZING. Especially the price. Here in Europe, the combo pack includes a remote already (350€ combo, 200€ single), so i think that makes it an even better deal. Comparing it to the Hoverair it is definitely a much better choice in any way.
That’s exactly my thoughts! Every time I’m like, “oh that could be better” I remind myself that it’s $200 and it blows me away. For real, DJI has to be losing money on this drone
@@stefpix Pretty sure I've heard it said that if you use an actual DJI controller instead of just your phone you will have access to adjust the sharpening to -2
@@mattroelsgard at that point you may as well get a DJI Mini series, if you factor the cost of the controller. The Neo is appealing for the small footprint and the phone as the controller.
I've been wanting one, so I'm a first time user. Love your wanting one skating skills. Just got one yesterday. But it's raining, can't wait to go outside.
Thanks for the review, David. I use the drone for exactly how you describe just quick shots along with the DJI Action 5 I can throw in a few aerials and it looks fantastic.
Please do some video using your neo and action 5 footage and put that on your channel. I wanted to put a comment there but there was no comments allowed. Cheers.
I think your last comment sum it all up that it's just a drone for a few camera shots at a different angle and that's about it. When you start adding on the necessities to make it able to do other stuff then you might as well buy the proper mini version of a drone package or fpv package from DJI because one has to start thinking that that was their whole idea. Anyway, like you mentioned to issue the neo to attract a large audience who would then find it basically underwhelming and then require a better setup.
My first drone, so versatile and portable, love it. Use it for moto vlogging and walking and will upgrade to a cinematic drone in the future. You need the controller to get the most out of it and alter settings to improve the video, and a set of Freewell ND filters. No avoidance but it follows the path of your head up to about 20mph. It only stops if it loses sight. PS. You talk to it too!😜
It is literally the perfect beginner drone. I bought one for my wife to get her into the drone game. I hooked it up to my goggle 3s and my controller 3 and this is just a mini Avata 2 and perfect for practicing manual flying!
Agree it's good for clips. I got the remote in case I need to do more, but I liked the idea of quick shots at the ready for this cheap. Image quality could use a little tweaking and a vertical video mode would be good for a drone like this.
This was a awesome version one of the NEO. And I am doing everything possible to keep myself from buying it. Because something tells me next years version will go higher, be quieter and have some small amount of obstacle avoidance in it. So I gotta stay firm and just wait a bit to see what V2 has to offer.
I bought one just before going to France (from Canada) lately and did some "B" roll with. Soooo easy to take it out of the bag and make it do it's things. In fact, it is way more easy to fly the drone that to find a spot where you can fly it in this country! It's almost a red zone everywhere! 😂 By the way, when you connect it to your phone and you're in a red zone, it won't fly unless you... "unlock it" if you agree to take the responsability of your flight. But if you use it alone, it will take of everywhere. This drone is the ideal flying camera for travellers and vloggers!
DJI, to me, is leading the way in all videography. It is also awesome that DJI is making their drones compatible to each other. I have the Mini 3 and still learning things about it. Had the Goggles Integra but didn’t like the idea going out in public and covering my eyes. Nothing would probably happen but just in the off chance someone might get an idea to do something…so I sold it. Great video and love the review!
