Great series of videos. Those guys were very nice to allow you to be that close and get the video. A nice mix to shorten the saga would be epic. Worth getting some pro editing help to produce a Tory from start to finish.
That’s why you don’t move heavy equipment when the ground is wet; I witnessed a D6 move after a long rain it sank to the belly pan and took a day to dig it out.😊
Man that thing is heavy ! I remember watching a story about how the Germans built an indestructible tank during WW2, with armor so thick that nothing, could penetrate its hull, or turret , or tracks. Just one problem ...it was so heavy that it sank into the ground as soon as they tested it out !....just like this monster. lol.

Not the operator, the foreman, or the person that made the decision not to use mats under the machine in the first place when moving something that size in an area without knowing what the subsoil is like. Well we see now what is under the surface in that area.

Here at home in alaska, we have the same blue clay and it goes from doing good to complete meltdown and "who will pay for this" as it can get way more expensive to get out than its worth on some equipment. I ran a link belt boom crane doing drag line work and also dipping trash out of the lake we were working next to. I am glad that they got it out and its really more like a act of god than a intentional mess up. No one would do that intentionally nor do they need to be accused of it. All damages will eventually be worked out and that corn is back in mother earth so no loss there. I see more corn harvesting videos than most any other so it means "Jolly Green Giant" can come down in price....?.??... ,and maybe not/LOL
So how did this equipment get here in the first place? That would be nice to know. Wet fields can spell disaster for any machinery, it just takes a fool to try to go across thinking it can be done. I've had a 58,000 GVRW (loaded) farm truck in so deep I could have used a periscope to see what was in front of me! The field boss said that the field was fine to drive across! That was the last time I believed him on that subject.

(And often me) Right over is rarer. Recovery seems to cause more damage? Folk in a rush would yank stuff out and cause real damage. One farm tried to claim warranty for a JCB gearbox case they split open dragging it out of a pit over a concrete dam.
@ sounds a real scenario because of the cost of measuring the chassis. NCB used to fully strip machines and go as deep as crack testing the crown wheels in the axels. No one does that anymore. So, it’s logical that rolled machines go for export good or bent.

Once they got the thing the right way up, they should turned the superstructure and lifted the 60ton weight and tray off the track frame, then the ballasted end was at 90 degrees to the tracks. Then place the 60ton weight and/or the correct ones back on the superstructure brackets, this would place extra load on the dry track and ease the load on the wet / stuck track by a pivot motion.. The crane would have some sort of balance on the dry track and probably would have driven out of the mud using the timbers. Curious what all the engine smoke is?
izalman If it had a significant lean on it, then engine oil might have permeated the bores to cause excessive smoke, until upright enough for it to clear... just a thought.
can't see why the just didn't cut it up, thing will never see service again, worth more as spare parts ( non-weight bearing) than it is to test each piece for structural soundness, so cab, engines, motors, weights ( those that didn't sink!) rest,, scrap too costly to test, only to find alingment and stress fractures in almost everything from main structures to track pads.
What were they thinking of getting a machine of that size into a hole full of somuch crap in the first place first hint of that stuff tnat maihine should have benn out the way PDQ

Someone needs to call the crane manufacturer to come and inspect their welds on the boom. It looks pretty crappy welding. Yes I understand that the crane is on its side,but maybe for the best with the terrible welding done on the boom sections
Hey Big AL I second that notion, what has happened with alot of these wind projects is that they have run far over budget and subsequently costs are cut when creating a level and solid path for these huge crawlers to walk on. This compounded with a lack of local knowledge about the location of tile drains, ditches and culverts presents alot of problems in wet and temperate weather such as spring and fall, given that the ground goes much softer than usual.

When something has a suction on it you can always tack a air compressor and blow air underneath which will help break it out

Exhaust may have been full of oil from laying nearly upside down for so long- burning it out causing smoke

Paid almost $50,000.00 for a new tracked Bobcat yrs ago, thought it was un- stuckable. Ha! Got it out, but I was sweating.
