The spruce wood sides of the keys are not just for aesthetics, it has been noted and tested by other UA-cam channels, that there is a definite sound dampening effect as far as sound from the keys hitting bottom and returning go. Kind of like sound proofing a studio but not as dramatic. So there is an actual functional reason for the added wood sides. I believe the comparison for the test was between the new Casio Privia PX-S5000 and the older Casio Privia PX-S1100.

I think the claim that the wood sides dampen the key noise is still to be proven, and this is the reason:
The PX-S5000/6000/7000 might also have extra cushioning on the bottom of the keys, which could be a stronger explanatory variable (or even the only one) for the dampening effect. I have seen channels where the presenter compares the PX-S5000 vs PX-S1100, and concludes that the quieter response is due to the wood... but this is an assumption to be proven. To make such a claim a fact rather than an assumption, the presenter would have to open the keyboard and show that there is no added padding on the bottom whatsoever, and the only difference is due to the added wood sides. Until that happens, it remains a possibility, not a proof. In addition, the PX-S5000 might feature a less resonant box, although this might not be the case, as both instruments look very similar outside.
I agree that it seems to be reasonable to believe that the wooden sides could dampen the keys noise. My point is not to deny it, but not to make it a conclusion without proper evidence. Just because something seems reasonable does not make it automatically correct.
I have played wooden keys that are noisier than plastic keys, so wood does not automatically make an action quieter. I have also played plastic keys that are as quiet as the Roland PHA-50, which is among the quietest actions out there in portable instruments, noise-wise. For example, Korg digital pianos are as quiet as the FP90X. But Korg doesn't have any type of wooden keys or sides. So, the design is most likely the most determinant factor in the level of key noise.

@@Instrumental-Covers You bring up excellent points, I didn't consider or realize that. I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment and I will look into this further. Quick question for you if I might ask. I am a total beginner and just started to learn how to play piano as of last Friday. I temporarily bought a Donner DEP-20 to start on, but already feel I need to upgrade to a more mainstream and well established brand that I can grow into over the years. I am torn between the new Casio Privia PX-S5000 or the Roland FP-60X as they are both within $50 of each other and the max I can afford. I have heard from some people that have played both, that the Roland generally has nicer action due to the longer pivot point and Escapement, while the new Casio has nicer, more pleasing tones. What is your opinion regarding these 2 piano models and which do you prefer? Also which would you recommend to me as I plan to be using it as my only piano for the next 5 or 6 years that it will take for me to pay it off.

@@BaritoneUkeBeast4Life Thank you for your feedback! I haven't played either one yet (I have played the PX-S1000/3000/11000 models and the FP30X and FP90X, but not the models you mention). It is very difficult to make a selection... it seems to me that both have weaknesses and strengths... I think I might choose the Roland FP60X over the PX-S5000 from the functional point of view, but I really like that wooden key finish on the Casio :)

Is there a way to use both an expression and sustain pedal together?

It would be nice if either they commented on what tweaks they were making to the settings before playing each tune or preferably to have some captions appear at the begiining of each play so we know when they add reverb, when they add chorus, when they add portamento, or maybe delay ? It would also be nice to know what piano they are playing ?? are they are playing a German Grand piano ?? at what stage are they playingn a Japanese Grand piano ?? how can we tell what they are playing if they don't tell us what they are doing ?? sorry guys but not a well thought out video, because it all sounds the same after a while😞

Nice. But next time find a pianist that could get more from the keyboard. That guy is not a pianist.

Idk he demo’d it pretty well I got the picture. I enjoyed it. Maybe you should go watch a piano teacher.

I agree. I noticed that before... it feels like only chord pressing. I'd love to hear a lovely piano tune maybe.. something easy but still .. a melody please.

Got my PXS 6000 a few days ago. The piano/epiano sounds and the action is not to bad,but the rest of the sounds is absolutely rubbish and this does not defend the pricetag in a mile. I found ONE useful pad sound to layer the piano. I expect these sounds on a cheap 90’s keyboard. The interface is very tricky and not user friendly, especially in a live situation. I will return it and never buy a casio ever again. I love the design but its a trap!

OCD me can't stop seeing that the camera focus is on the word 'Yamaha' behind you. Both of you and the Casio are out of focus. :-(
