  • The end of 2020 is here and so is our last video of the year! This video was shot over a period of 3 days from December 28th through the 30th. I t's a time of chilly and sometimes cold weather with the last day (30th) producing some snow to cover the older snow already on the ground. Come along as we watch some BNSF action on the Columbia River Subdivision between Wenatchee and Malag, WA. As always, Thanks For Watching, Please "Like" and subscribe.

Thanks. Yeah, I noticed it was the lead unit as I was checking the train list on the Skykomish web cam. I knew I had to catch it. This is the first time I was able to get a video of it. 😊

I work with two screens, one for the work, another for vídeos like this, works as a window in the office, through which I can contemplate the scenario for a while. It is good to clear my mind.

Love the shots- you really take time to find the spots, and I appreciate that. We don’t get snow here, the son and I really enjoyed this video. Thank you Kevin!

There are some well laid tracks wherever this is. Normally in the video compression it’s easy to see the rock of the car but there is not much at all. Thank you for the great video.

Great video Kevin.... Might be a good idea to call the local BNSF officials in Wenatchee and have them view this video. It shows noticeable track defects with noise and high/low spots in the rails with noticeable rocking of the engines and cars. I'm sure they would appreciate it especially if it prevents a derailment. They may not know of them. Good work dude!!

Fabulous video. Trains can get around in snowstorms better than highway vehicles if it's not too severe.
Also, I love freight trains!!! It's because each tanker, each hopper, each boxcar, each piggyback and immoadal container is one less truck on our highways. I say that to myself when I'm sitting at a railroad crossing, waiting for a train to pass through. Trucks beat the hell out of our highways, resulting in rutted pavement and uneven concrete sections. Both of those can be damaging to peoples vehicles.
The railroads and law enforcement need to work together to tackle the latest trend in graffiti vandalism. I've heard that some people like the graffiti and love to see it go by. They see it as colorful. However, I personally see it as unsightly and I associate it with gang activity and hoodlumism. It used to be that people didn't do that to rail cars. I personally feel that the railroads and law enforcement need to put a stop to it. A minimum age of 21 for the purchase of spray paint, plus a background check on the purchase of spray paint would help. Under my proposal, the purchaser of the spray paint would have to scan his driver's license or ID at the checkout, and the computer would instantly search for past convictions of graffiti vandalism. If it shows that the person is under 21 and/or a past conviction of graffiti vandalism, the spray paint sale is dead!!!

So, Wenatchee is in Washington and this is the former east/west NP (GN?) line, part of the Highline? Good job, working in the snow.
I suggest avoiding zooming, it's distracting and, in your case, not smooth. Long shots for distant trains then cut to normal focal length (FL). Also, long FLs make the trains look slow.
Also, (sorry) don't pan to follow the locomotives. And always show the full length of the train.

Someone should do the Baird springs u turn near Trinidad hill. Really cool to watch the train going both directions just above you. Worked for many years at the old Cascadian Fruit Shippers warehouse

Thanks for watching Randall. I have a few recent videos posted of Trinidad and the horseshoe. I do need to get a good video right from the very center of the curve and just pan the camera all the way around.

When they tore down the old train station ,i watched from the Cascadian warehouse an old man who came every day and took bricks from the herringbone paving till they were gone. Still wonder what he did with them 🤔

Do you have a clip of the westbound interlocking signal at East Malag going from green to red, please? I am teaching my grandson how railroad signals work and I would like an example. Thank you.

Getting closer to the bridge is a bit dicey since its surrounded by private property. 😕
