    I absolutely love Larry mullen...how can you not? Such a awesome drummer. I'm adhd...when I was young I could play basketball at a remotely hi level and drumming interest ed me and humbled me. I love both activities. I remember being at the Forman school , Litchfield Connecticut/ school for learning disabilities ( good bless their hearts) ..in 1994 my junior year i listen to u2 the joshua tree from start to finish..then proceed to listen to their older stuff. The song 40 is amazing...thank God for u2 and L arry

    This is so special to me on many levels. I’ve been a U2 fan since 1984 when The Unforgettable Fire came out. Bono gets all the spotlight but, Larry has always been my favorite. His stoicism both on stage and off always added a bit of mystery to his aura. Whenever the band was interviewed, Bono being the over the top personality and frontman that he is had no difficulty serving as the band’s spokesperson. Larry especially was always very withdrawn, quiet and said little if anything. Many years later I learned that Larry was very self-conscious of his accent, having been told by many people how difficult it was to understand him. He really shines here. Thank you to Kelly for having him on and sharing this.

      My journey started back in 1980s in Ireland. I was assessed in the usa, in california, my late dad, went over there in 1983, he was Irish but he was us citizen fton 1952 onwards. I live with both dyspraxia and dyscalculia. Support and awareness was non existent. I don't dyslexia. So I didn't get any support at all. That was my mothers responsibility according to the teachers and the education system. The stress ended up killing her. She died of cancer at the age of 64. My dad was a consultant in Irish hospital medicine. We didn't see all that much. Both my brother and I were in school all week long. He would come home in the evening. Then it would be home work time but that got delayed due mh dyscalculia. I would go into school with my homework half done for primary school. I walked away from maths at the end of fourth after being isolated from the rest of the class. I went down the exemption route and in 5th year I walked out of maths class and never went back. Thank you larry mullen for being the first Irish celebrity to talk about learning disabilities. Never in a million did I think it would be him. I have been writing about my learning journey for the past 6 years.

    • @shaboom362
      @shaboom362 2 дні тому +1

      @ it is hard. My level of math understanding ended in the fourth grade. I didn’t realize that having dyscalculia affected so many other areas of my life. I didn’t get my drivers license right away because I couldn’t figure out the dimensions to park between two other cars. I couldn’t have a little job after school because I couldn’t work a cash register when you had to figure out the change yourself. It is good now that they have better resources today. It is better for my child with her ADHD. Or for any other neurodivergent condition.

    I went through the NY Public School System and I’m also dyslexic. Math and I don’t get along. I couldn’t learn it and the school system quit trying to teach me it. Instead of math class, I got put into extra gym, art and music classes. To this day I can only do very basic math.

    I have trained in multisensory reading techniques and Wilson Reading. If you have it in public school, it's still not enough. Kids need it in a specialized school, especially if they have a strong degree of it. It was a lot of work to train for this and although I don't use it anymore I can tell you many kids are left behind unless they are set up for the right program. On average, it can cost over 7K a year in computer programs alone.

    Dyscalculia? I've had it in my brain that I have "calculexia" (I also have dyslexia) and no one ever corrected me. Being respectfully corrected really helps us to adjust.
    Thanks to all the people that are participating in the efforts for kids with these challenging conditions. Some of the most creative and intelligent people have these conditions. But we are misunderstood and treated as if we are stupid. Even Albert Einstein had a school teacher who told his father that Albert was an idiot who would never amount to anything.
