- FIFA 21 AI defending is bad, real bad.
So bad it is basically ruining career mode. There are fundamental defending mistakes at play that should not happen at any level of organized soccer/football. Simply put, defenders fail to step up and midfielders fail to track back with alarming regularity.

Dont forget how in the Champions league final, the AI will defend like crap and you will get a 5-0 win, but facing a mid-table team in a league game and they will defend like they are all prime maldini and the goalkeeper is prime Buffon. I got no clue what EA wants to do with their game. Making finals easy, but a random league game will be impossible to win, its so painfully obvious that difficulty is inconsistent bullshit
Yeah, I'm playing man city career mode and I win easily in cup matches aganist like Tottenham, Man united. When I face with lower-tier teams like leeds united in league, they play godlike. I can't even pass and my players run slowly.
Literally only watching this to remind myself that the game is fucked and that I'm not just losing my mind
I really don't understand why this wasn't fixed... It really sucks the life out of any carrer mode when my freaking CDM and CMS are USELESS ON DEFENSE
Never raged so much with a FIFA than with 21. I am 32, laying FIFA since I was like 14 and every year I could learn defending close to perfection. This year I am completely helpless and I spend the least amount of time playing it. :(
Im the same age and i feel u been on FIFA since 98 and this year is the worst game of all time football is about balance defending and attacking not just attack attack attack absolutely no midfielders resistance no pressure no feeling of like u have to break 2 line before having a chance at goal it’s the worst fifa i tried pes and even tho we get midfielders resistance it’s hard to switch to pes when I’ve been playing FIFA for 20 plus years !!! FIFA need to get their stuff together for FIFA 22
It's heartbreaking. I'm 43 and have played since Fifa International Soccer on the Sega Megadrive (skipping a bunch in the early 00's).
With the exception of the obvious improvements due to technology, the gameplay - especially in career mode - has progressively gotten worse.
The last one I (reluctantly) paid full price for was 18. The following two I bought hard copies from ebay after they'd been out for a while (as they were much cheaper, and I kind of thought EA aren't getting paid for the resale).
After experiencing 20, and hearing everything about this current iteration, I've decided to save my money and frustrations.
I'm afraid EA have lost me, at least until I hear that there has been *vast* improvements made in the mechanics of future titles.
@@stevehaire6324 honestly I’m on ps4 i whas having problem to get use to Pes but thanks to some UA-cam tutorial on how to get the option files and have all the big leagues and teams plus a couple of dribbling tutorials since about a week I’m having so much fun whit this game it’s crazy I’ve slept on pes fo sure it has it flaws also and is far from perfect but you get way more football logic like cdm tracking back to help the back line a ball that feel like is not glue or perfect Xavi Iniesta passing always lots of shooting from distance give Pes a try for sure the menus and some licensing need to improve but it’s a very good game and u feel it’s not a total cash grab like FIFA !!!

I didn't realise that you could get licenced kits etc for PES on the PS4 (I'm also on PS4).
This could be a game changer for me!

In my opinion, the Fifa career mode is pretty much perfect for what I want. It's simply the terrible gameplay which let's it down completely - to the point where I'm not willing to buy it.
If PES career mode is as good, I'd definitely make the switch now I know that licenced teams etc are available.
Fifa 21 got to be the worse version EA has ever produced
I’m losing my mind when playing Fifa 21. Sometimes my players play super good and some games they feel very heavy and hard to control. Sometimes the ai is super good and I’m fine with that. But the issue about midfielders standing around doing nothing on defense is just unrealistic and unfair. I was hoping micromanaging my defense would help but the autoswitch is terrible.
This game just makes you feel like you have no control sometimes I’ll be making controls and the players just don’t react
I only play career and this game is so mediocre for career. How come when I'm miles ahead of a Stoke defender, he somehow catches up to me from Narnia and get the perfect Maldini slide tackle.
Drawing fouls is somehow nearly impossible especially when I protect the ball and a defender from behind bashes into my attacker's back and makes my controller vibrate like a Hitachi Wand.
Also the way how the attackers make runs is completely ridiculous. It's either they're always offside or they start snaking left and right and run right into defenders instead of open space.
My players couldn't pass the salt but Brownhill pulls off a Xavi performance.
My goalkeeper just watches the ball roll past his ankles like a stuffed bagel into the net while Kasper Schmeichel is just as good as his father was.
This game is unreal. Like seriously... Townsend looks like a contender for Ballon D'or when he's up against my defense.

I don't know what difficulty you're playing on but on legendary or ultimate the ai's whole team gets back to defend then still gets forward to attack while my team still dosent track back like the ai's team does.
I just do it manually
Great video, defending in this game on the hardest difficulty is awful, and the other difficults are so easy
The computer just protects the ball and do unnecessary ball rolls and skills I just don’t understand and every time I give my winger the ball the full back drops right down the game is so broken 🤦🏿♂️
IT absolutely sucks, on any of the high difficulty levels even if you have the best defense on the world AI will score 3 goals on you like nothing. It seems to me its intentional from EA they just tought the hell with realism lets make goals happen
Ai is bad altogether. Theyre down to 6 goals but still celebrate like crazy when they get 6-1
I realised that this game is just so poor. I wish we had PES gameplay, but the rest of the game was fifa. It would be perfect.
I think the problem is the defending is innately inconsistent. I used legacy defending in career mode, and sometimes the players makes me feel powerful and their every tackle is firm. In another few games, you will feel that they are weak. It's like they haven't ate anything before the game.
Love using 5 defenders, having the width at 3 and depth at 4, and still getting beat with a single pass through the middle somehow. Defending on this game makes me wanna throw my monitor out the window
I’d just like for the AI to not have this 100% tackling efficiency rate and not be able to get away with the sheer amount of fouls they do… The fact that I have at least a top 3 back line in the Bundesliga on Fifa 22, and have the 2nd worst scoring defense, is because the ai on my team have never played this game in their lives.. apparently
basically. if you up the difficulty the other ai team becomes smarter/harder but your ai team mates remain dumb as a door knob which it makes for far too many frustrating moments that are outrageously down right moronic
I dont understand how and why they would make the AI worse every year consistently. I bought fifa 15 back when it was new and always loaned the newer fifa games from friends and neighbors to see if the game is worth buying and every year the gameplay seemed worse and worse. Playing offense afains a defense that always no matter the difficulty makes the same mistake gets frustrating. Comparing fifa 21 with fifa 15 i sensed a huge downgrade when it comes to AI gameplay.
As long as people keep spending money on fifa point, EA dont care. just imagine the ammount of revenue during one lightning round.
Dont understand why. 19 defending was great. They've even made 2nd man press completely useless.
I'm having this issue with fifa 22. I've played and managed football teams all my life and I just find myself ripping my hair out over how bad the AI is. They don't track back, they don't seem to know what marking is and tackling is beyond terrible. It's easy to attack and it feels like I'm playing basketball not football lol
Even get a freekick is so hard in this game
its supposed to be a freaking football simulation, i don't know if its the patches or what but even instructions dont seem to work, come back to defence for RM/LM and they still be chilling onthe wings while you get overrun centrally. and also the cms just stand in the midfield doing nothing, its always your manually controlled player vs 2 or 3 opponents
I never bought the recent Fifa title, so Ibam still playing 21 and the AI is just so bad with definding. Whenever I try to stop the wingers on the outside, the AI in the centre just goes outside as well and creates MASSIVE spaces inside the box. I mean, maybe I switch to the centre back too blate, I am ready to put that on me. But the AI should not move away from the attacker inside their own box. So yeah: maybe it's just me being bad at the game, yet on the other hand: I expact the centre backs on my team to help me out, not their AI buddies on the other team
How come this was never fixed or addressed????? Im playing 21 on gamepass and this is STILL a major issue that is DRIVING ME CRAZY

Man) Ea don't care about casual players. They make this gameplay intentionaly so every child in Ultimate Team can score huge amount of goals and bring EA money from this Ultimate Casino.
