What happens with the 92 as the train enters the NLL at Willesden. You can clearly see a green light reflected in the rails but the train appears to stop?
Changing tracks, West Coast-East Coast main line. Passing class 43 HST and giving way to a regular east coaster, before heading north for Edinboro waverly
Matt, why you do this all the time! Why do you cut-off the most interesting section of the route between Camden Road and Holloway Road? As this is such are rare journey opportunity it would have been ideal to shown the whole trip along this section rather pieces. The camera should have rolled continually from 26 min 19sec. Other than this a great video.
I did a similar trip in 2010, thinking we were going up the WCML but we're top and tailed out to Wembley then back on the up towards Euston then the NLR and of course dropped down to the ECML at Compenhagen tunnel. How I stayed awake I don't know, I had just got into Heathrow from Aus. I now wonder if they do it now do they go the same way as since then the Goblin line Gospel Oak to Barking is now electric so the train could travel don towards Barking but there is a connection between that one and the ECML just south of Harringay
This happened to me but it happened the other way round, I was on the sleeper from Inverness I went down the ECML went on the diversion through a London Overground station and parked in a siding just after Wembely for about 40mins and drove into euston still 20mins early!
An interesting video, but it's a shame- as others have said- that it misses out the important bits. We've all seen trains trundle along at 20mph waiting for a yellow to clear to green, but not all of us will have seen how a train gets from West of the WCML to the East before taking up the NLL.
Most of them went to Bulgaria and the others were scrapped apart from 87002 (used on the Caledonian Sleepers) and 87035 which can be seen at the Crewe Heritage Centre.
"When its diverted via the ECML people always ask why does it not just go from King's Cross? This is because the Caledonian Sleeper is too long, no platform at King's Cross can accommodate it with 16 coaches and 2 locomotives" Hang on! It's a sleeper train, right? So it's going to be leaving at a slack time at the station so why not use two platforms putting half the train on each and then couple up the two halves when it's time to go. Alternatively as it is a corridor train does it matter if a few carriages are clear of the platform? Even if it fouls up the odd set of points it is off-peak so that surely would be no problem.
MadAndyBeckman This was a sunday evening at around 8pm. Believe me King's Cross struggles with capacity anyway let alone with 2 platforms out of use or a train blocking a set of points at the entrance to Gasworks tunnel. Not very practical at all! Sunday is the busiest day on the railway apart from a Friday. So yes it'd be an extreme problem.
If the Caledonian Sleeper is too long to fit into Kings X when diverted via the ECML, why have they been going into Kings X from Oban, Aberdeen and Inverness for the past three weeks?
+Leo Martin Not from Oban. When they do Oban its been to/from Euston. It's been running to Aberdeen & Inverness from KGX with a much shorter load. Only 13 coaches instead of 16. But that's stopping soon because they're losing money.
Just found this vid. I was driving the 92. You can see me on the ground as it arrives in Wembley! Great stuff. Thanks for posting.
How far do Willesden GBRf drivers know on the ECML?

@@EM-yk1dw we work from Wembley to Newcastle. Returning with 1M16
@@opensesame525 my memory is a little sketchy, but more than likely I stopped to reset a fault on the loco.
@@fordranger22 Thanks for the information Andy.
Brilliant video bought back many memories of travelling on the North London line
Beautiful train ride and wonderful places and landscapes! Excellent video! Thumbs Up
Greetings from Romania
Andrew
Fantastic video. Love the 87 sounds
Excellent video good to see this diversion in daylight .
That was a very interesting diversion good footage!
Brilliant class 87 pulling sleeper brilliant video
Enjoyed the ride, THANKS MATT
Lovely sound from the 87. Seems to have a bit of a wheel flat though.
Ironic that one of the Caledonian Sleeper 92s was on freight!
done both ways. Love the shock on people faces as you power through
Thanks for sharing Matt! Very interesting. Always enjoy these sleeper diverts! :D
Passing a sidings with two nicely kept Class 90's as DB and EWS, and a perfect class 86 in classic black and white Intercity livery
Great Video. Have used the sleeper to edinburgh and using it again to fort william.
Class 92 looks brand new
Great journey with great traction
whirring away quite happily shows the younger loco behind how the jobs done.
Must agree a fascinating route, would like to try it during the day on a Pendolino, obviously with the tilt deactivated.

gaillark and leaving the WCML to get up to Willesden Junction too.....
wow thanks for the video
92032 looks like it still has the old Polo Mints EPS logos on it!

Lovely to see an 87,
87002 was turned into intercity livery
Was this your first journey on it since the start of the new franchise?
Up and Down Relief, High Level Goods too. 92 016 now stored. Great Video. Terrible the way the weeds have taken over though.
this is so good at UA-cam Speed X 2 ;)
Why did the driver toss his refreshment bottle out the window loco cab?
I agree with you :D 😁
how long did it take you to walk all the way from the front to the back?!
Antthecool1 About 8 minutes.
Fair enough am getting the sleeper on Sunday :)
Was wondering whether you'd be interested in subscribing?
Why it doesn’t go via Upper Holloway and then to the ECML from Harringay?
No idea. There seems to be a phobia of using electric locos on the GOBLIN.
What's the monstrosity at 28:10?
It takes the HS1 line over the East Coast Main Line, but does it undercover in a 'tunnel' to reduce noise to the local area.
Brilliant video as usual! What are you up to these days?

I thought the 87s went to Bulgaria? Or did some of them stay?
+afxinfinitee There's only one left in operation. 87002 used by Caledonian Sleeper.

Good view of The Emirates stadium.
To bad the platforms are too short at Kings Cross
I know right, I'd love to have Caledonian sleeper on the ECML (my local line).

what day do the sleepers run because I've never seen them at Euston I travel from Euston alot and why they took of 87 when the 92 is slower
Sleepers run every night apart from Saturday.
SupaHotFire you are right lad 📲

+rachaelmatt I thought it's stopping soon because the WCML is reopening so they no longer need to use Kings X anyway?
What's the 'X for above the signal lamp?
Where was the sleeper train going to
Edinburgh.
