    Rush Fans, to be clear I wasn’t saying that Rush took the riff from GnR, what I was saying was I think maybe GnR was inspired by Rush and took the riff from them, which could also be completely wrong. Just reminded me of it that’s all. Didn’t mean any disrespect. I can’t wait to do more Rush songs.

      dude ...I got ya, right off the hop....don't worry about it....2112 is a great song to start with .....after this one !!!!!...it's a long song with maybe 6 short songs to make it like 18 minutes....do the album version.....you will probably shit your pants hearing a band this clean and hard in 1976 !!!!

      Haha. It would take a little more for Rush fans to be disrespected by that comment. You realized and recognized it. Hahaha. We appreciate how much you enjoyed the song. They are one of the only bands that are capable of putting the listener into their song visually. I've spent enough time in Xanadu to know exactly where to get my honeydew there. Lol.
      There is no bad Rush choice when itcomes to these guys. Some songs i wouldn't recommend for a newb, because some may not be ready for it. Lol.
      To ease in, maybe start with Tom Sawyer official video. It's their most successful single and usually the one that people recognize. Its a good introduction to them as well. My personal fave is Natural Science...but honestly, there are no bad songs. They changed their sound about every decade over four decades and imo, their last album in 2015 was one of their best, if not their best. Enjoy. Welcome to Rush!!

      Being a long-time Rush fan, I had never actually made the connection, but as you rewound it, I can totally hear the similarity. And yes, understood you were saying GnR might have picked it up from Rush, not the other way around.

      I was lucky enough to see them live 3 times, wish it could have been more,I have been a fan since I was 11yrs old,I am now 57, their music is timeless, I have seen this video hundreds of times, and I am still amazed, back at this time of live music, there was no auto tune, music tracks,or any of the other technology's that is used in present day live performances, Rush was just 3 guys playing very difficult music to be duplicated in a live performance. This band will forever be loved, and missed by all of their dedicated fans. Rest in peace Professor.

    In Peart's lyrics, the narrator describes searching for a place called "Xanadu" that will grant him immortality. After succeeding in this quest, a thousand years pass, and the narrator is left "waiting for the world to end", describing himself as "a mad immortal man".
    The song is based on the poem Kubla Khan written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Although the song does not explicitly state where "Xanadu" is, references to Kubla Khan imply that it is a mythical place based on Shangdu, the historical summer capital of the Mongol Empire.

    Just think, this live performance was filmed in the early 1980s and still sounds futuristic. When you caught glimpses of guns and roses.... Dude, this is why I still watch these reaction videos with Rush. There are many types of people that are Rush fans, but you are an ideal personality for digging hard into this rabbit hole. And it's a big hole. Geddy is from Xanadu!!! And Geddy wouldn't think to copy Jimmy directly, he's to into his own shit and you can tell he pushes himself performing to the max, every time.

    Welcome to Rush, aNKS! We, as commenters, can always count on an awesome reaction to Xanadu, when the Reactor can't pronounce the name of the song! You surely did not disappoint; just like Rush didn't disappoint you! You're going to get a ton of info from people here. My one suggestion is that when you react to 2112 (like the year); you watch the official Vevo video cartoon version (it may be blocked for us to see, but you can just play the audio for us). It's a complicated song to understand at first listen; the cartoon clearly lays out the storyline and also provides the words. It's Rush's 7 part epic that set them apart from all other bands and allowed them to be who they are in music - amazingly talented, unique, genuine and ever-evolving artists who stand alone in style and class. We're glad you're here! Enjoy your journey!

They are true geniuses and masters of their art. You must check out the album 2112 and the classic instrumental " La Villa Strangiato"....oh and Jacobs Ladder.....hey there is so much for you to catch up on....let's not forget Tom Sawyer.........dive in and swim around, then come up for air.

    Check out Rush performing "Spirit of Radio" live in Toronto in 2003 in front of 500,000 fans on a sunny August afternoon. The performance starts with Rush paying tribute to the Rolling Stones on a quick instrumental version of "Paint It Black" which then segues into a blistering version of "Spirit of Radio". BTW, once you hear the song, there's a very good chance you'll recognize it because it still gets played very often on Classic Rock FM radio stations.

    The best part f Rush is knowing they were all good friends that liked to joke among themselves. Your favorite drummer’s favorite drummer (Neil Peart, who is the lyrics writer), your favorite bassist’s favorite bass player (Geddy Lee, the unique voice of the band) and a totally underrated guitar player (Alex Lifeson, the joker of the band). They toured like there was no tomorrow, they worked hard on each night and gave audiences their best night, every time. With a 40-year discography you have plenty to listen.
    Try some of their “short” songs, like “Tom Sayer” and “Spirit of Radio”. Get to their massive middle finger to their discography, the 20-minute epic “2112”. Go for some of their 90’s excellent work (“Stick it out”)… you can’t go wrong with Rush.

    Welcome to Rush. Niel Peart (pronounced peer-t) is the GOAT on drums, chimes, tubular bells, etc. Alex Lifeson, rhythm and lead guitar, playing 12-string / 6-string double guitar and foot pedals. Geddy Lee doing vocals, playing a 4-string bass over a 12-string guitar, keyboards and footpedals. Geddy typically plays bass, but during Alex's solo part in Xanadu Geddy fills in with rhythm guitar. Since you're really digging the music and the crowd reaction, your next Rush stop ought to be YYZ played live in Rio. It's an instrumental only piece, but still a fantastic song and performance.

    17 when this came out...One of my first Rush albums, but I already loved them from Caress of Steel, Fly by Night,...They'll fade into the night by time you've heard them as long as we old time Rush heads... Rush is a lifelong pursuit...You young guys lack the patience, and willpower, to just sit and listen to the dozen or so albums of theirs MANY times in a row. While absorbing all the rest of the great prog you never even imagined existed...Crimso, Genesis, Tull, Floyd, ELP...Just those five bands require about 2500 hours of listening just to "get it"... Well; "the journey of ten thousand miles, starts with the first step"... I hope you get to know this music...It will help you in the coming times...

    All that sound come from three guys on stage, nothing pre-recorded! The multi-tasking they do to pull it off is unreal. Geddy Lee is not only singing, playing bass and keyboards, but he is also playing synths with his feet! Taurus pedals are like synth organ pedals. If you go to 7:59 in your video right before he starts singing - hear that synth? That’s Geddy with his feet! Geddy’s instrument is a bass on top and 12-string guitar on the bottom. They don’t show it well, but he plays the 12-string from Alex’s solo to the end while playing bass tones with the pedals. Alex Lifeson’s guitar is a 12-string on top and 6-string on the bottom. And Neil Peart, well he has an entire orchestral percussion section at his disposal, lol. These guys are the real deal. They evolved through many styles through their 40-year run. They have long, epic songs like this one and shorter, more radio-friendly songs, as well. Your comparison with Plant’s vocals are not far off. Geddy has a very high-pitched voice, especially in their early days when their style was very Zeppelin-esque. If you want another killer live performance, try Working Man from Cleveland. Welcome to the Rush!
    P.S. - And do we Rush fans think they are alien cyborgs from Xanadu with superpower musical abilities? Why yes, yes we do.

    • @anksreacts
      @anksreacts  2 роки тому +1

      Jeez so he was doing way more than what I even caught during the video? Alien for sure. These guys are musicians, musicians. No wonder so many people speak so highly of them. Honestly a lot of people I know that are into music or are musicians themselves consider them the greatest!

  • @BalokLives
    @BalokLives 2 роки тому

    Three people made all that sound.
    Geddy Lee: Lead Vocals/Bass/Keyboard/Pedals
    Alex Lifeson: Guitar/Pedals
    Neil Peart: Percussionist/Primary Lyricist
    Geddy Lee is definitely a superior alien with talents above most mortal men. There is no doubt about that, but Xanadu is not about an alien planet. The song is based on a poem by Samuel Coleridge. It is about the fantastical location of Xanadu on Earth, located somewhere in the "frozen mountaintops of eastern lands unknown", and through the "caves of ice". It is a place where a man can reach immortality. But be careful, immortality has drawbacks and can quickly become a nightmare. "Escape those caves of ice! Oh, is it paradise?"

    First, it's great to see someone introduced to Rush and appreciate their music so enthusiastically; just as many of us did in 1977, when this track appeared. Excellent and thoroughly enjoyable.
    That said, I've skipped through the comments and not seen a mention of one aspect. I couldn't imagine seeing Rush, live, and closing my eyes for a second. It was worse than a tennis match, trying desperately to watch all three at the same time, and (knowing the songs inside out and back to front) flicking to each when we knew they were about to do something epic, like switch necks, Peart doing a spectacular fill, or Geddy doing a bass solo, etc etc. Some of the questions you asked were being answered before your very eyes... if they weren't shut.
    One other thing, Geddy (and Alex) was also playing foot pedals, to generate some of those 'background' sounds. You can clearly see Alex doing it (watch his right leg) towards the close, during the quiet section before the final crescendo.

    I think I should start by warning you of a user by the name of Billy Lo, who has always trashed this performance any time someone has reacted to it; he apparently thinks that his opinions of Rush's music is superior to those of the rest of the world, and sees nothing wrong with trashing anything he doesn't like or anyone choosing it. As for Xanadu, it was based on an unfinished poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, about a man who seeks immortality, and then finds out that it's not what he'd hoped for; he becomes imprisoned in a cave of eternal darkness, and goes mad while waiting for the world to end. For another must-see performance, I recommend La Villa Strangiato live in Cleveland from their 2011 Time Machine Tour. Cheers from Canada! 🇨🇦

    Geddy Lee Vocals, Bass and Keyboards
    Alex Lifeson Guitar, Mandola and later keyboards
    Plus foot pedals
    Neil Peart drums, percussion and main lyrist.
    Yes, they are one of the GOATS of rock. Geddy Lee is playing Bass which is even harder to sing and play at the same time. Neil Peart is considered one of the best drummers in rock. Unfortunately Neil Peart passed away from brain cancer in January of 2020. Rush had a 40 plus year career. You are not the first one to think they are aliens. LOL They are Canadian from Toronto. Xanadu is a mythical paradise where one can achieve physical immortally. The fellow in the song achieves and then regrets his decision. This was taken from a poem. I would suggest watching it again as you missed some of the performance while you were being blown away by the music. LOL

    YYZ live in Rio
    Working man live in Cleveland
