So you have a cervicogenic headache, also known as a cervical headache.
These headaches can begin as an intermittent dull headache at the base of the skull, over time they feel sharper, last longer and begin to radiate and move upwards and forwards over the head and around the eye.

I rarely comment on videos but I’ve been suffering with this headache for weeks now on and off with worst stiff neck that’s made my head feel so heavy and full of pressure and I’ve just done this and within 30 mins it has calmed it down
I am so glad it helped you Sophie ❤️
Hi Carl just wondering are these headaches caused by trapped nerves as I get the in my neck into my shoulder a lot
There is a potential impingement going on with your symptoms, but without examining you, and knowing your history, it wouldn't be right to speculate. My best advice is to book in for a check-up with a professional near you, ideally, a chiropractor or osteopath - who can expertly assess you and advise further.
I have been suffering with chronic headaches for the past 2 years. It would sometimes manifest as permanent headaches for weeks straight without pause. I was very surprised at the intensity and length of those episodes. I read books, consulted with professionals, tried every exercise or stretched I could find on UA-cam.
It slowly started to get better, but your approach brought the pieces together. I am very grateful to have found your clear and kind video.
May you be well and receive many blessings ChiroCarl.
Earl, thank you for your kind and generous words. Although my content may have helped, I implore you to seek out a Chiropractor who can help you further.
Thank you again. ❤️

You're very welcome ♥️
Thank you!!! I had a Frontal Fusion of the Neck Spine a year ago and it cured my Cervicogenic Migraines. Sadly, my Neck a bit lower began to burn recently and the Migraines returned. I so hope that these exercises will Work as this Return has me inconsolable.
Thank you👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you
I have a long history of bad left-side headaches. As far as I remember, they started about age 10. I got them when watching films at school, home or television. I’m 64 now.
I’ve gotten them every night for years, but they haven’t been that much of a problem, because I could just go to bed and they’d eventually subside, with or without a pain reliever.
In the past few weeks, they’ve been coming on in the day time. I do landscaping, and I thought my constant use of a large weed trimmer, coupled with a recent heat wave and virus, was aggravating an already existing condition, but now I’m just not sure. I’m taking about a week off, hoping I get over this virus, and giving my neck and shoulder muscles a good rest. I do feel an occasional twinge and strain in my left neck muscle. Throughout the day, they can come and go. Sometimes they get pretty brutal. Lying down and napping helps a lot, sometimes making them go away completely, though I do feel just a hint of them.
As I type this, it’s flaring up, which typically happens with being on the computer, and often other focused work, like driving.
I hope I can learn something from these videos, but even watching them at the library is a challenge, because it aggravates my condition, which is almost unbearable.
that last one made my head feel like a time bomb🤣
Thanks❤
Thank you so much! It has brought me some relief. Going to call my GP in the morning for further assistance! I'll be doing these daily!
You're welcome, and don't let the GP mess you around 👌

Oh my!!! I have been in pain for so long! This really helped!! I was being seen at the number 2 hospital in the country and they could not figure this out!!! Thanks!!!
I am glad this provided some relief ❤️
Neurologists and ER Doctors are absolutely clueless to these types of headaches. They have been trained to believe that medication is the answer to every issue in your body
Same they always give me pain killers that don’t work. Did this stretch help get rid of the headaches or just alleviated them?
Thank you so much. I get migraines and CVG headaches (although I've only recently known about them after 45 years!) so severe that I take Triptans for them. I did these exercises and the FHP towel exercises and they are brilliant. I was bordering on taking a triptan today but after these exercises it's about 80% better. Unbelievable. I wish I had known many many years ago but at least I know now. Thank you so much 🇬🇧. Great work 👏
You're most welcome ♥️
@@ChiroCarl can I just check with you please. Is it generally that these exercises in this video are for pain relief and the FHP towel exercises are more for longer term prevention or are they all useful for both? Thank you
I took magnesium and calcium. That helps too

Very helpful. I was hit by a car two years ago and had a concussion and whiplash. I still don’t have a handle on the headaches and dizziness. Thank you.

*** It worked for me!!!!* !
I had a very severe occipital headache last month for around 15 days …. Did ct and its clean my show neurologist and he said its due to muscle tension however I am suffering such pain since class 7 as far as I remember. I used to play cricket and got hit on my head several time during these days. I thought this pain is related to these ball hits. But my dr after examining the ct confirmed me that thats just co incidence. I also had a very severe panic attack the day I went to the dr. Now the pain is not that frequent but I am still afraid of the overwhelming situation I faced. Pray for me whoever is reading this comment.❤
Update: I am well now. However the dr told me to visit him after every three months for followup check up. 😊
❤
I praise God that you are better! I hope it stays that way.❤😊
Can you share what did you do to get well. Thanks!
Praying that your still well❤

Every time I do the double chin move, I get a knock sound in right occipital area
Thanks. I will try this for the week and leave a reply here.
Varun, I look forward to hearing whether or not this one worked for you!
I've been holding my breath!
I’ve always been afraid to hold that double chin for too long, thought it was more reps less time………..I’m going to try this now instead
Amen. Really helps. Is this caused by using phone too much?
I get this when I sleep too long, don’t drink enough water and/or sit for too long looking at a screen
I have scoliosis and my neck bone is crooked to, I wake up with a headache every morning !!
Holy shit suffered from this on and on since I was 16 where it seemed to last a few weeks at a time. Felt it move all the way back to back base of the head
If this makes it worse than what?
I have a herniated disc causing my cerviogenic headaches. 10 months now my life is not my own due to them.
Great video. I have cervical stenosis & have to do these types of exercise a lot throughout the day. I'm always in a lot of pain & nothing seems to shift it.
From my own experiences, some binaural beats do dampen the pain, but for something more tangible i just take a towel and pour some hot water and keep it to the pain until the muscles relax. Hope this helps you.
Started with a really mild headache and ended up with a much worse headache after doing this. Any ideas why it gets much worse with these exercises? Should I still do them?
If it is getting worse, no. Stop immediately. It is telling you that it is not the cause of your tension. I recommend professional assessment by a Chiropractor, osteopath or other MSK specialist.
Is it normal to hear popping, cracking, and grinding when I do this?
If by that you mean, "rice crispy" like noises as you move the head, it is very common. If in any doubt, book a face to face assessment with a chiropractor.
❤️
my best friend grab my neck as joke (or lifted me,I don't remember) but since then when I wake up, my neck feels uncomfortable then a dull headache start and then my eye (upper eye sometimes) start having dull ache sometimes 1 side and sometimes both it also spreads in the nose bridge sometimes. Dull ache also in forehead. I don't really know if its cervicogenic headache or just a muscle strain or something else. Also light pain is on the scalp(top) of my head
does it feel like a sharp stabbing pain
@@a.m4404 no light only
Hi. Not sure if you still check comments on this video but I’ve just come across it. I’d love your opinion here - I think these are the headaches I’m getting. Does it seem likely that these headaches also cause pain behind the eyes, and the head pain hurts more when bending down and forward? It almost feels like sinus pressure in my head but I have no current sinus issues and the pain always starts from my neck like you describe. Thank you 🙏🏻
It can be connected, but I'd recommend getting a face to face appointment with a Chiroprsctor who can do a proper assessment on you. ❤️
@@ChiroCarlwow appreciate the super fast reply! So what seems to happen is, after sitting at the computer too long, I notice the sub-occipital muscles are really tight. So I start digging my fingers or thumbs in to the tight bits and self massaging or holding/pressing in to those bits. Somehow, this sometimes seems to trigger the headaches and the pain spreads forward to the rest of my head, just like you describe in the video. How is my self massaging somehow making it worse? Am I causing those muscles to lock up even more or something? 😅
First you have to ask why qrecthose muscles getting so tight and angry? Simple answer comes from your statement, at a computer, most likely connected with posture and the repetition of modern lifestyle. Ask what the brain is asking the muscle to do? Stabilise your head, and try to stop the pressure. If you release the muscle, then continue to sit badly and move badly, at the computer, watch TV, reading a book driving a car, or on your phone; then you are re-aggravating the same muscle group - which will likely cause even more tension and/or just make you feel worse. Definitely get yourself checked by a Chiropractor near you - they can help with all of the above.
@@ChiroCarl appreciate your response, thank you. I always thought I was helping myself by digging my fingers in when I felt the pressure building. But it often just seems to trigger the headache more. Is it possible I’m creating a spasm by doing this? Unfortunately I work in an office at a computer for 8 hours a day so it’s difficult to escape the problem.
The most important thing is recognising you need help. Now you need to go see somebody who can assess you, help you, and the guide you in avoiding or minimising this in the future. I wish you the best
Can this cause nausea
Yes indeed 👌
Since 4 days now, I am having dull headache temporarily a day, then my eye (sometimes 1 sometimes both) start having the dull ache. My forehead also feel the dull ache occasionally and the dull ache comes to my nose bridge sometimes. I have also noticed that when i wakeup, my neck feels uncomfortable or heaviness *AND SOMETIMES MY LEFT EAR START RINGING FOR 10s* I don't know if its even cervicogenic headache Because i can move my neck correctly
Same 😢
@@syedmursaleen04 I applied ice on my neck for three days and it's improving, my friend grabbed my neck someday and I believe that was the cause; I'M OKAY NOW BUT I AM SUFFERING FROM SOME KIND OF ANXIETY 😣
@@Iamtheuncoolestguy I have dull headache from a month I am suffering from anxiety😰 but I m not sure this headache is due to anxiety.. I have discomfort in my head on and off. @@syedmursaleen04 *please see a doctor*, I visited a doctor one week ago... he said my sleep position caused the neck problem and diagnosed me wity ear infection. @@syedmursaleen04 see a doctor man, i too understand how it feels 💔
You really believe if it's due to bad posture and from horrible posture ar work , that the DAILY HEADACHES can be stopped with good posture and these exercises???
Yes, it is certainly possible.
can this pain be stabbing to
It can be yes
@@ChiroCarl i get those daily since 6 weeks back of my head middle of sculp temples and forehead even to the eyes mostly on the right but on the other side too my MRI of the brain was clear few days ago just a kyphosis on my neck any tips
The main tip is see a chiropractor - you need a proper examination to determine what is actually happening
So is this good for occipital neuralgia? I also have disc herniation c5-c6 and diagnosed with occipital neuralgia.
