Not much longer I will get the Blown 48 Ford Coupe back to the track with dad! I am confident the new Penske Racing Shocks will more than keep control of the chassis allowing us to put more of that energy pushing the car down the track! The combination of the shocks and stiff sidewall slicks, along with the 40 spline spool/axles and the double beadlock wheels and 4 link changes and new rear brakes, will pay dividends. Stay tuned for the track video!!
Great explanations as usual. You explain that your new Penske shock should control the extension of the shock better so as not to crush the sidewall of the slick so much at the hit. Question: with your previous and your current Instant Center calculation shown to be below the Anti Squat line, why would you car be separating so hard? Why isnt the car more neutral or even squatting right at the initial hit? Thanks.
sanger440 thanks so much for your comments! Great question!! I will be doing a video on how the AntiSquat line has some challenges when it comes to the Instant center location in relation to the Center of Gravity and weight bias. Stay tuned for that one for sure. Go fast, go straight! Be Safe!!
Kevin just discovered your channel and as an engineer I really appreciate the level of detail you provide. Question, will a slow car benefit from double adjustable shocks? Sportsman 11.60 and slower foot brake class. 73 duster small block 2900lbs 11.80@113 1.54 60’ SS springs CE single adjustable shocks I need to replace, one went bad. Looking at strange single adjustable for 175 each or double for 295 each. It’s a bracket points racer. What do you think? Thanks
Is there a simple way to measure how much a shock is actually extending? (ex.) zip tie for measuring the compression stroke. How did u know u were over extending, besides crushing the slick and slow motion video. I cant thank you enough for all the free informative videos. Amazing!! I have completely redone all my suspension. Looking forward to opening day/test n tune at our track this year. Hoping for deadly repetitive consistency.
Great question, Ray! I have a subscriber/customer who actually mounts a gopro in the back under the frame watching the rear end. He has hung a measure rod from the rame down past the rear end shock mount and it has clear 1" marks on it with a pointer off the shock bolt. The video captures it all! Go Fast, go straight! Be Safe!
Stuart Buckley thanks so much for your comments! Not sure when we will get back out. Putting the top end back together this weekend. Go fast, go straight! Be Safe!!
You can use shock sensors for sure, but watching the slo mo video tells you a bunch. Also, I have a customer/subscriber who places a gopro in the back of the car under the frame watching the rear end on the hit. Go Fast, go straight! Be Safe!
The DD series definitely have a strong share of the market. I wish QA1 would make them rebuildable thus able to re-valve. Their MOD series is the shock they promote for the more serious competition. You will not regret having a more targeted shock for noprep racing and you will have a shock that can be rebuilt to meet your needs. Go fast, go straight! Be SAFE!
StressedDdts thanks so much for your comments! Since it was sitting for 3 months I wanted to prime this time. You are right thought we normally just help with some M1 thru a bottle. Go fast, go straight! Be Safe!!

I would definitely opt for double adjustable. Just my $.02. Go fast, go straight! Be SAFE!

When you go to the track I would like to be there to watch the results. Can you give us a heads up?

How do you know your extending the shocks at the hit Do you have shock sensors or Gopros?
You can use shock sensors for sure, but watching the slo mo video tells you a bunch. Also, I have a customer/subscriber who places a gopro in the back of the car under the frame watching the rear end on the hit. Go Fast, go straight! Be Safe!

👍👍👍
Nose heavy cars need alot of starting lie traction to get moving
Set that barrel valve to .9 gpm at idle.
StressedDdts thanks so much for tip on the barrel valve! Go fast, go straight! Be Safe!!
FYI. There is no real reason to prime the pump. Squirt it till it picks up. Takes about 1 second.
