Great channel and a great topic. I feel like most drum channels are just licks. It's like people stopped talking about musicianship. I try to cover some jazz drum basics on my channel from a musicians standpoint. We need to bring this back. Peple learn 4 way polyrhythmic coordination with their feet but don't get TONE or ARRANGEMENT....
Very helpful and motivational, great topic and useful real tips that shall encourage to work towards the music! Great channel keep it up man, greetings from Spain
Practice listening to songs and keeping track of either the melody in your head, or the SOUNDS of the chord changes. You don't need to know the names of the chords (I certainly don't to most tunes), but I can recognize when it changes. Also, I tend to focus on the bass lines for that sort of thing. Hope this helps!
The cord changes of the non soloing instrument? Do chord changes usually mean change in the 4 bar phrases? Still unsure what to play during the solo and what other instruments I should bass my playing off of.
This is what all jazz drum beginner need to know. Thanks for a great lesson!!
Good to see you back here. Miss your youtube posts. Great on getting the modern drum features. Look forward to more!

Now that you mention it, "Sid's Ahead" by Miles Davis is an AABA song.
I usually mess up the form/melody in my head as soon as the soloist starts.
