  • Today, we'll take a look at a great AAA Battery light, which outputs great light, which portrays machining-as-sculpture in a great light, too: The Prometheus Beta QR.

I think this is the first review you have ever done that I don't agree with. It's definitely a nice light but I don't really think that'll light with those problems qualifies as a gem. If this exact light was made by a different brand at the same price, I don't really think that it would have been labeled a gem.

@Johnny Silverhand I've had this light on my keychain for 2 years now. It's one of the best lights I've ever owned and can survive literally anything. I'm a mason and I have this hanging from my hip on my carabiner everyday and it always works when I need it. I've used it multiple times finishing concrete trying to see after I've run out of daylight. It's definitely a gem.

I've got the ti one en route to me at the moment.. I'd ordered a nickel plated one and clip, checked the site a couple days later and saw the ti's in stock (hadn't been previously).. it's expensive but it's a great light that I'll carry for years. I also related it to knives.. do I need to carry a $400 sebenza? Nope.. but I carry a knife every day, use it every day and enjoy having one that I admire. Same for lights.
My current Edc light is an older eagtac d25c. It's excellent but just a little large so it gets left behind sometimes. Same for my d 25a. Between the slim profile, great machining, deep clip and fact that I RARELY need more than 100lm, its just what I need.
Fwiw, I received the nickel one today and while it's definitely nice, the plating/finish is just a little crappy looking.. it just isn't quite as smooth as a bare metal piece would be. The ti will fix this tho.
I've owned nickel plated flashlights that have been immaculate finish wise.. looks. Like it's made of silver.. and I guess thats what I was expecting here. Not quite. Oh well.. I'll probably sell or gift this nickel one away but it'll be in my pocket til my absurdly priced titanium one shows up.

I’ve had a Prometheus QR since 2013 and it’s fine for what it is. My QR mechanism uses the ball-bearing push type but I never use it. The body disappears into my pocket and sometimes I forget it’s even there. Curious about the weight statement since it barely weighs anything even with the battery.

I don't think the pocket clip is a big issue because that's the purpose, difficult to remove and not able to come loose easily so the light can stay secure in your pocket. Don't see the purpose of removing it in regular basis back and forth to the key ring, that's why they sell it as an optional item. You need to make up your mind and decide before purchasing it if you want to carry the light clipped to your pocket or attached to your key chain.

I’ve had the nickel version for around 6 months now and for just a normal guy it’s great! Also less expensive as the copper last time I checked (I think I got the pocket clip and light for same price as copper). I do have to disagree with how hard it is to take the pocket clip off though. On my one example I can easily take it off by pressing my thumb against the ramp part of the clip. Also in the version I have the way the light plays with reflections is nice to look at. I do agree with how hard it can be to turn the damn thing on with one hand. But it’s pretty so I give it a pass lol

    its for the flashlight lover
its heavy. surefire titan plus is heavy too and big.
olight i3e and nitecore tube are for the masses and great keychain lights.
the quick release form factor is cool and carries well. i run a small niteize s biner on my titan plus. my titan plus is on my emergency keychain. it is not carried.
put a nitecore tube or olight i3e on your keychain.
carry a good flashlight in your pocket.
    my recommendations:
    olight m1t
    streamlight stylus pro
streamlight microstream (2 mode newer one, rechargeable)
    streamlight protac 2-lx
i like 1-3 modes at the most so your preferences may vary. i tried to keep my recommendations at or under 50 bucks.
ive got some glam lights i like and own for the collection
ive got surefires and elzettas on my guns.
    i carry malkoff/surefire combos.

I would love this light if it where decently bright and wasn't such a warm tint. I promise you the CRI on this thing is nowhere close to actual sunlight color. my skin looks nothing like it does out in the sun under whe compared to this light. it makes my skin look more tan or warmer than it actually is...
Secondly this thing is a peanut shooter. what I mean by that is it really doesn't put out much light and it is a pain in my ass that have to twist it 6 times (3 left and 3 right) just to get to the high mode, which is the only mode worth using for me every.single. time.
In summary, i wish the light was a little less warm and it was a little brighter. Many $10 AAA Battery lights are putting out double the lumens this $60 light does these days.
even all that said I'm considering keeping it because I love the design so much. It is very small and disappears in the pocket and look super sleek with all my other titanium edc....
As for the owner, I can tell by the literature that came with the light that the owner was somewhat of a narcissist jackass. He really thanks a lot of himself I can tell...
it seemed it was because "he" made the light was why it was the best of course.
Also including a pamphlet telling his customers their lifestyle was wrong if they weren't using rechargeable AAA batteries in their entire house. and not only that, he wanted to tell us specifically what brand to buy..... not only for his flashlight, but for our entire household supply... it's likely a friend or an associate owns the battery company and I'll use my eneloop thank you.
It doesn't surprise me one bit he didn't post your review..
It's also very apparent many others feel the same way about this flashlight being too warm and under-lumened

floyd2386 that is true, but I’ve found that to be of no really practical value. I’ve never had a case where distinguishing the exact color at night was the factor to completing the task. What I have found is a rear clicky is much fast and quicker then a twist and access to instant high are more important as a tool.

    • @floyd2386
      @floyd2386 5 років тому +1

@@ShortcutReviews I disagree. Looking into throats, eyes, etc, cool white low CRI emitters don't cut it. I personally can 1 handedly twist on a twisty light by either end quickly enough without problem and the reliability of twisties over clickies are very important in an emergency tool.

Undeniably better in every way and it’s a special release that also qualifies as an EDC sculpture. Goodness the performance on this “gem” is on par with the free AAA light that Olight shipped during Black Friday. Am I really going to pay another $70 for a name and for it to be a little prettier?? You can put this flashlight between your lips when you need 2 hands to do some work (not an option with most cellphones), other flashlights can be mounted on your head, have a magnet or give alot more light than a cellphone. Different people have different needs in their daily life. Cellphones are good enough for most people, but not good enough for everyone and every single task.
For me, checking the time on my watch is much more convenient than grabbing my cellphone. ( and I dont have to worry about the battery of my watch running empty for the next +10 years )
