Pheasants in the Snow!

- Man! I love chasing roosters in a fresh snow. Best time of the year to chase pheasants.
What an incredible weekend. We limited out for 3 straight days. Some great dog work and shooting. Boss #5s put the birds on the ground. No lost birds!
One of the best Pheasant hunting videos I have ever seen.
Thank you for posting this.
Thank you for the kind words and watching! New one will be coming out this week:) hope you subscribe and follow along!
Great video, after the first few roosters I said out loud “this dude can shoot” my wife giggled. Nothing sweeter than a bird hunter who can shoot.
Also-I’m in SD, always free to shoot! And still waiting for the snow here.
Hey thank you man:)
Wow! Great Hunt, this video is becoming one of my favorite upland hunting video's. Looked like one of those "magical" days in the field. Your success with the 28 GA has me looking at my 20 GA and thinking that I'm not as under gunned as I thought in the late season. Fun Fun.
Thank you!!!! It was fun!
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast Do you think the pheasant season if done with all the snow ND and SD got in Dec.? My buddies and I had planned a DYI pheasant hunt to NE SD this year around mid January but the weather has us wondering if it would be a good idea or not. We are good with working for a few birds but would like to avoid a bust.....any insight? Thx
I’m down in Arizona chasing quail and have been for a month. But yeah. I’m sure it’s going to be brutal. That part of SD got a lot of snow.
Great video. WOW at the amount of birds coming out of that cover. Your view #'s have gone crazy. So proud for you and appreciate you living the dream for us to watch.
Yeah the last few videos have done well:)
Great video! Loved it.
That was some nice shooting.
Thank you very much
Nice video, nice birds, nice shooting. Although I have a side by side 28 gauge , I wouldn't believe that it would hit so hard birds like these. Good job!
I liked my cz bobwhite 28 but did not like the double triggers in winter. Sold it and got a new yildiz o/u 28 gauge (has a longer LOP and more drop) which suites me better. I still shoot a sxs 20ga but I do miss the bobwhite a little bit....what a great value gun, absolutely no complaints
Appreciate your videos. Bringing back some good memories. When I was a kid growing up in north west Indiana we actually had a bird population. Not so much anymore but had a lot of fun going out with my dad and his buddies. Hunting over dogs is a blast!
You put together a great video. Never hunted with someone who shoots as good as you. Nice job 👍
28 ga deadeye. I'm impressed. Lots of birds too, lucky you.
so many birds!!!! wowza, great shooting skills as usual , especially the "driven pheasant" monster shot
Thank you! Wild how many birds there were on that walk
I hope there’s this many south of you in Chamberlain when I go in a few weeks. Nice video.
Usually is!
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast went in October and we saw more grouse than pheasant which didn’t bother me at all, grouse are tasty. They spook so easily though and flush well out of range. Managed to bag a few though, they liked to stay in a corn field on some hay bales. We ended up army crawling behind a fence line and popped up near enough to get a shot.
Great video - as you said, there's nothing better than roosters in the snow!
That second bird was wayyyy out there - nice shooting!
You're a crack with that 28! Very impressive shooting! Looks like a blast of a time! Fun to watch for sure. Maybe some day I'll make it up there. Well done!
Awesome video one of the best out there. Great dog work and shooting.
Thank you!
Fantastic video and some damn good shot's with the little 28g, loved the dogs working, best video so far I have seen, I'm from the UK and that is my favourite style of hunting, well done and keep them coming.
One of these days I’ll be able to afford a proper English double to chase birds with! Cheers sir!
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast Wouldn't worry about an English gun the way you shoot, I don't think you can better what you have, you and your gun are a perfect team along with your dogs, keep the video's coming.
Awesome. Subscribed.
Thank you!!!!
You're a hell of a shot man. Good stuff
Cool to watch the dog track back the 50 yard shot bird
Yeah…. He knew it was there but couldn’t see it buried in the snow
masterclass shooting. wow!
Love hunting in the snow (Deer, pheasants, ducks, whatever..). Just maybe not knee deep snow😁. That looked perfect to hunt in.
Yeah it was great! In some spots the snow was 8-10 inches and that’s plenty! But I love it!
Saludos desde Minneapolis Minnesota
28 gauge? Damn that's good shooting. I love Boss ammo too
Yessir! 28 and .410 is all I shoot!
A sxs none the less! I use a 20ga sxs myself.
Keep it classy man! Nothing like the classics
Pounding those birds with that 28. The Boss and that choke are right on. Walking that snow is hard work.
awesome dog work, good shooting.
Awesome!
Enjoyed the hunt!
Thank you!
Great shooting good job man
Now I’m excited to try my new Weatherby SxS 28 game on roosters!!
Very well done, Sir. I thought all Americans shoot with automatic guns, but it's nice to see you hunting 'European style'. All the best from Holland
Side by side is all I shoot:) .410 or 28 ga
Love that Winter action !!
🇺🇸☮️
What an awesome hunt Tyler. I hunted one day in the snow. It was so incredible to see my dog point at a bird buried in the snow and grass and then have it erupt up through it. North Dakota is a very special place. I hope next year we can hunt together for a day or two.
The only place I would want to call home
What's the pheasant daily bag limit?
3 per day…. That video was made over a weekend
I wondered why he was shooting way over his limit also!
Very nice shooting. You know what hunting is! Very good dog. Take care for your own physical condition. Does not sound very good.
You try walking through knee deep snow, up and down hills for 10 miles…. I bet you will be breathing hard too.
The armchair critic...not a good look brother. I run marathons and I still breathe like that when I hunt pheasants in the snow.
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast lol
This guy is in good shape. Snow with heavy boots and gear is hard.
You are a good shot sir
Keep going my brother 😎👍👍💥❤️
本当に射撃が上手い👍日本では雉定数二羽ですが。雉の数が半端無い❗
why did you throw that spent cartridge in the grass? @13:52
I pick up all my hulls…. Part of the reason I shoot a side by side. If I did drop one I’m very confident I picked it up. Probably was trying to reload quickly
You are so good
Hi
Thank you:)
really nice video what number go pro are you using ? thank you
The hero 10
That is some great shooting w/ that 28ga. I'm not that good, I use a 20ga. Also I'm not that classy i use an o/u. LoL. I hunt central N. Dakota every other year so I've got to ask, private or PLOTS?
A mix actually. I hunt probably 70-30 private to plots. But all the private land I’ve got from door knocking.
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast that's great! So looking forward to this fall and we'll be out there in November. Sounds like they had a tough winter. Either way we are going.
Had a knee scope done so I am just watching your videos. You run a setter and a GSP looks like? And there are 3 of you.
40 yard .28 ga side by side shotgun excellent shot and good vid
Thanks for the video caught the gauge 28. What was the SxS you were using and what part of the country you Hunting.
It’s a CZ project upland bobwhite. They only made them for a year
And I’m on North Dakota
thats an awesome video. what chokes are you using because those look like some far shots. thanks!!
Some of them were 50+ yards…. Was shooting mod/ IM
what an awesome thing to see that many birds i sure hope you guys know what you have and im sure you do i live in the birdless state of Md and can only wish for a hunt like you have there great job on the video and the shooting i love my 28 as well like seeing you shoot yours so well stay safe and shoot one for me
I’m always thankful! It’s incredible to be able to take a walk and see literally hundred of birds
We got woodcock throughout the state and grouse in western MD. Maybe not as good as the mid-west but still plenty of upland birds to be had.
Wow! that flush at 9:05 was insane!
Yeah lol nots of birds
Flat lands much rooster well educated game dog and senior hunter with a double gun..what a wonderful world
What are your chokes ?
Great shootin’
Mod/IM
Do you wait for your dog to go on point before starting the GoPro?
Depends on the situation. If I can see them getting birdy or if I seen birds fly into an area then I’ll turn it on.
BOSS for the win!!! WOW!!
They are killers!
Any decent shell does the same thing and lots cheaper.
Great video, can I ask what Chokes you use? thank you
Franz
Mod/ Improved Mod…. I tightened them up during the late season
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast grazie!
Wow! A lot of birds!
Nice shooting,i grew up in Perely,Minn.Just north of Fargo,N.D .What part of North Dakota do u guys hunt.I have Relatives in both states and my youngest son has a pair of Llywellen Setters that we Pheasant hunt with in Central Illinous and a few trips to S.E.Iowa during the season but my cousins would like to have us come up to the great white north for some Bird hunting.keep up the vids, they are fun to watch.
Minot ND
Nice shooting! 🍻
You’re knocking down late season wild roosters with a 28 gauge? You’re a heck of a shot my friend.
What kind of weapon do you have? Good shooting great hunting 👍
Good shooting! That's the power of #5's. But I do love my cooper plated lead--bismuth is great too but a lot of $$ . What part of ND?
Western:)
Где вы находитесь.
Are you reloading your own? 28gauge is kinda hard to find isn't it?
Boss Shotshells man…. Order them over the phone or online and have them at your door on 3-4 days
2:20 WHAT COMES OUT OF THE BARREL THAT SLOWLY
Can't wait to get into the snow!
Makes it exciting for sure!
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast I'll be in SD, first week of December. Is there a threshold to too cold, too much snow? Watching the weather carefully.
It’s all about what you and the dogs can handle. I’d rather hunt in -15 degrees than too much snow though. Especially if it has a crust on it. Dogs can tear ligaments and it’s brutal on people.
That one rooster burnt up on re-entry lol
Hahaha
bj quel calibre le fusil ( la marque )et quelle marque de cartouches merci. belle vidéo
What's the limit in your neck of the woods?
3 per person per day. The videos are parts of multiple days
Wow fantastic. Are theses released birds or all wild. Red letter day
All wild man. That’s all I hunt
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast wow that’s a crazy must be perfect habitat for them lucky lads. Top class shooting 2 👏👏👏
You said solid hit on a rooster & it was. You mentioned # 5 shot. What brand & what type of shot, steel, lead, tungsten, bismuth 3”? Happy Hunting 😊
All I shoot is Boss Shotshell. They are copper plated bismuth. And these are 2 3/4 inch. I don’t shoot 3 inch in 28ga. 2 3/4 pattern much much better
@9:42 that was an ozone layer shot! nice shot i meant second shot,😂.
Thank you:)
What side by side is that?
Project upland bobwhite from CZ USA
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast how is it working for you? Looking at a CZ or an Iside for a SxS as they are the two in my price range.
I love them. Been shooting them for 3 years. Zero problems
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast awesome, thanks
@@grahamsteel7737 Those are two pretty different price points.
Fricking awesome hunt!!! Gotta ask. Private or public?
This was a mix of both. First portion public, later portions private
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast totally amazing bird numbers. Great dog. Great shooting and great video
Holy shit dude. What modified choke are you using ? those are some long bombers! What kind of lead you putting on em?
Shooting mod/ IM and not shooting lead. Boss Shotshells 2 3/4 inch 5s. All boss is non-tox copper plated bismuth. They are killers! All I shoot. 28ga and .410
I know only one place to duck hunting. I heard a pheasant voice. I was busy at that time with target shooting :)
You shoot very well! Excellent video. Rusty reminds me of my old boy. My setter is 12 now but still hunting albeit slower than he was. He still seems to scratch out finds when the odds are down. I'm going to miss him. Just wondering why so few people finish their pointing dogs anymore? You and I should have a chat about that one day.
I do basically no training with my dogs. Teach them to stop when I say whoa and come back when I say here. That’s all I care about. I don’t think finishing a dog makes them a wild bird dog. And that’s all I care about
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast Good shooting!
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast Do you hunt Ruffed Grouse? That's where you'll see the benefits of a finished pointer.
What the heck is the bag limit where you are at?
vous etes dans quelle région
The man can sure shoot must be nice
Did you use a go pro?
Yup. Hero 10 on a head mount
Girdle those big trees to release your shrub layer. Better still cut-em down, they’re predator perches. Course, if it’s not your land,, hard to do that. Nice footage!
My hunting partner can shoot lights out also, besides watching the dogs work its fun watching him shoot.
Where Is this Place?
North Dakota
Badass shootin' 🔥🔥
What kind of 28 sxs?
CZ project upland edition bobwhite
1 Oz loads in the 28 ?
7/8
Jaki kaliber?
28 gauge. The large majority of hunters would be using a 12 gauge, or perhaps a 16 or 20 gauge. For him to be making these long kill shots with a 20 gauge speaks to his marksmanship.
Doesn’t look like the second barrel get much work in.
Only when I’m shooting doubles lmao! Thank you:)
When I was 16 I saved all my summer money and bought a beretta white onyx. One of my dads friends took me out pheasant hunting, Well I hadn’t used the gun yet so I smoked a nice cock first shot and said fuck it I bought the whole gun imma use the whole gun so I fired the second barrel anyway and he looked at me like I was the biggest idiot he’s ever seen.
Save some for next season. Around here they had restrict harvest due to population problems.
Not the problem here…. Lots and lots of birds on the landscape. Besides, hunter harvest is a small number of birds taken compared to habitat loss or a hard winter.
@Birds, Booze, and Buds Podcast understand that, late 70s winters took out 80% of our ground birds DNR was busy farming replacements.
No shortage of pheasants in North Dakota :)
Fantastic video, I'd absolutely love to be able to work my cocker spaniel through that area with my gun in hand 😃
Would be a handy thing lol
Location pls
North Dakota

I find it odd that there are porcupines there. I always thought they hung out in forested areas.
Pretty common in the prairie also. Tend to live in thick draws and cattails
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast Then my dog was lucky he never ran into one when we hunted out there.
👍👍👍💪
I would like to know 2 things. But are all the pheasants male ? Female pheasants do not " exist " ?! However you have hundreds of them ! Here in our country not even 50 years ago there were as many pheasants as there by you ! Now when you go hunting if you really like the day , maybe you can shoot 2 or 3 pheasants . However I so many pheasants leave from a small grove like there , here I have never seen them even in reserves or restocking areas. Then I wanted to ask you what kind of dogs are you using for that hunt.
There are way more hens than roosters the video clips happen to show more roosters because that’s the ones I’m shooting at. In my new video there are some great videos of hens over my puppy last week. And I have 3 English setters and a German short hair
Late season in the northern Great Plains, it’s not uncommon for pheasants to bunch up under cover provided by brush like you see here.
@@Thewesternwingshooterpodcast The dog you are using in this video is a German shorthair you said , ok, but what kind of breed is it?
Man You are a heck of a shot - if I shot half that well I’d be happy. But man breathing hard - maybe less booze and buds and more cardio 😅
I don’t drink hardly at all anymore, never smoked and walk a lot lol… this day there was about 12-15 inches of fresh snow and lots of hills…. It was hard for anyone lol
any one else see the deer running away at 2 minutes 44 seconds
In Italy if you hunt with snow-covered ground, first you get a colossal fine, then you get your hunting license taken away and sometimes even your weapon !
Here our season goes until January. Over half our season will be in the snow
Same in Greece...
Interesting. What is the reason? What is the game commission trying to prevent? I suppose the snow, being that it shows tracks, can perhaps be seen to give an unfair advantage to the hunter. Many species of birds and big game can be hunted legally in the snow here in America.
@@libertyvilleguy2903 Yes, you nailed the reason! It is precisely because it 's an advantage for hunters since with the ground covered by snow the footprints emerge very easily.
Crazy
have a good look at
Good to see snow is a thing of the past, well Greta said it would be.
Very nice shooting.
New York used to have good pheasant hunting, but no more. Farmlands and brush have all gone to suburbia.
Is that your 410?
A few of the shots are. Switched between the 28 and .410 between the walks

Awesome!!!! I just picked up a cz bobwhite g2 28ga and absolutely love it!!!
