I'm not in debt, always shopped within my budget, but still wayyy too much and often and for all the wrong reasons... I'm now focused on healing what's beneath it all, finally truly starting to love myself, cause apparently I didn't or else there's no void to fill..... ❤❤❤

That’s what I thought too. Sweet girl, but not sure why she buys so many depreciating items of style and no style for her home. The other thing, why are they suggesting she spend £50 a month more on shoes/clothes when she already has 50x more than she needs for years, instead of paying off credit cards with the £50? Just sounds like bad advice.

I had a marriage like this and was the most unhappiest, loneliest person on planet earth. I couldn't understand what was wrong. Years later, I read the book, The Five Love Languages and it hit me like a brick. My then husband was not understanding my love languages, just as Mark isn't understanding Adelines, and my life was running or crashing is more like it, running on an empty, unfulfilled love tank of any appreciation and understanding. It is like living life with a knife in your heart and actually hurts. If I had had this book all those years ago, we could have understood one another, and probably still been together to this day. My love language was needing touch and a real heart felt hug, but my then husband would change the oil in the car and think it was showing me love. Each partner must speak the other persons love language to each other, even if at first it feels foreign. Now when I buy wedding presents for people I buy them a copy of the book. I wish you two well.

Awww her and her husband are cute together. Good for her that she’s trying to get help. It’s really hard to ask a professional to help you STOP something that feels so satisfying and safe. I grew up poor and homeless on and off all through my childhood. When I go shopping, I feel so happy and secure. It’s like I step into an alternate universe where I can afford anything I want and I never have to worry. And the makeup and handbags I buy are like enchanted tokens from my little fantasy world lmao. Most of these comments are very ignorant and bitter. There is no reason to believe she’s stupid, 80% of the people in my country are in debt. It happens to the best of us. I don’t know if I’d call this a true addiction, but her feelings are very intense and deep and I feel for her.

Also, Americans don't vacation (go on holiday) very often, so we often do spend quite a bit of money when we do. Employers do not have to give any vacation time (paid or unpaid) and even some that get paid vacation don't take it.

Even if the husband is willing to paying all the bills is it fair to him that he is doing so? Over time resentment is likely to build and possibly the marriage would end. If she loves her husband she would give to the household expenses to show respect. Or, put money into a retirement plan for both of them. She should be equally concerned with her husband as she is with herself.

That was sad tbh - I mean, I feel her i really do, it's like having problematic relationship with your parents really does set a tone for how you might behave as an adult, in a relationship especially. It's so difficult to be expected to live up to someone else's standards (in this case earnings) - I believe most of us are very self critical to begin with.
It's definitely not a healthy choice to go out and spend so much, but I mean it is obvious the real problem is something else. That emotional void, a feeling of being misunderstood, not appreciated, not enough, the list goes on.....
I hope by now she and her husband have their life sorted out.

I bought one new pair recently for $4 an wore them 3 times. The sole cracked off. threw them away. now I have another pair foe $5 that are holding up well.. As a single mum. I can't afford new pairs from new stores.

I hate shoe shopping. 😬 it’s always a hassle for me because I wear a 5 USA in women’s and most shoe stores I go to has 6 and up. I usually spend 70$ on a pair of shoes, but it lasts a long time so I don’t have to go back shoe shopping for a few years.

However, now that we are shelter in place due to the corona virus, I am so tempted to sit in front of the TV with my credit card. So, I try not to shop.

I sold shoes for years. I know that women buy shoes to feel better. Because they work in jobs where they are treated like CRAP, or they have been through terrible financial times and finely have a BIT of money, they go wild. Buying "nice things" makes them feel safe, secure, happy. Buying a lot of food is a sign that they are trying to make up for a big emptiness inside.
I am on disability and have bad feet. I have four sets of footwear; the expensive walking shoes in a man's super wide, the expensive pair of men's sandals in super wide, the expensive pair of women's ankle winter boots in super wide, and the around the house rubber sandals in a man's size. Irony.
What shocks me is watching the husband and wife sit down to eat, AND HAVE THEIR LAPTOPS IN FRONT OF THEM!!!! NO!!! When you sit down to eat together, the laptops stay on the desks!!! You TALK to your partner over dinner!!! No wonder she shops like she does, HE IGNORES HER!!!!

She spends like she earns the same as her husband, which in reality she should be as she works as hard as him. Its unfair that women who work as hard if not harder get far less for their time. Its outdated and needs to be changed! She seems like a lovely lady. And I hope she can get out of debt soon. I'm horrendous with money "my own" I spend pretty much everything I have on my little boy, although I do have enough to feed and house us. Apart from buying for my son I have no extra to go out and buy anything for myself lol. But that's just mums for you. As long as my son has, I'm happy. But once I've money he always gets something new, and most of the time he probably doesn't need it and I should be saving it for his future. This year I'm determined to correct my crazy spending and save it for when my son is 16 for driving lessons and a car or college. PS thier kitty is gorgeous 🙂

Disagree with paring down the food budget. Only having a 2 days worth of food on hand is not a smart plan - especially in these times when inflation and shortages are running wild. "In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil..." Proverbs 21:20
