In short, there is no "right way" to wear cowboy boots. It is all up to preference, wear what you like and wear it with confidence!

@@cupboard_raider while some snakes can technically go through leather you also have to consider that they must go through jeans and sock and that there is usually a gap between the wall of the cowboy boot and leg which kinda buffers against bites. In any case their a ton safer then sneakers or hiking boots which have no sidewall at all.

My dad was a miner for 30 years of his life, he always came home with his jeans tucked in the boots, but went to work with the jeans over the boots. Im from Romania btw, and nowdays those boots are only worn by bikers and some old men in the mines and construction sites..

I remember once when I was a kid, my cousins from the big city showed up wearing boots with their levis tucked into the boots. We thought that was about the funniest thing we had ever seen.
There is a little discussion on this subject: While I agree with his statements, the old school Texas rule was for cattlemen: Apparently the trend was up to so many cattle, you would wear one side of one cuff in your boot... From that number to whatever the next number was, you tucked the same side (inside or outside) of the other cuff in. Long story short, with a LOT of cattle, you would have the leg cuffs fully into both boots... Ens. George Gay, WWII USN pilot, and author of "Sole Survivor" about his experience in WWII(sole survivor of the HORNET detachment of VT-8 at Midway) wrote about this in his book- describing how you could tell how many head of cattle a man had by the way his pants legs were tucked. (George Gay was born & raised in Texas in the 1930s)
The other reason for tucking your cuffs on the trail is to keep things from crawling up your leg! Same reason the military "blouses" their boots- it keeps things out of the cuff, and therefore (mostly) away from getting into your pants. (Of course, should you meet a cute cowgirl while wearing your cuffs tucked, it will keep YOU from getting into HER pants as well! Unless you are on the trail, of course...)

You should only tuck if wearing tall top boots. It was done to prevent ticks, brush or burrs, and snakes.
If I'm worried about ticks, my pants are getting tucked all the way to my socks

This is really good to know. If I go into a social situation I'll l untuck. And I'll just keep tucking for all the outside work I do cuz I've been stung and bitten by things that crawled up my leg before. So for practical purposes I'll tuck but now I know to untuck for other settings. Thank you.
Wranglers are tucked into my stovepipe buckaroo working cowboy boots. Sometimes after working on horseback I jump out of my truck booted in the city. Yes, I sometimes get comments but you walk through with confidence. The best comment often comes from kids who yell “ look mom, a real cowboy”😁

I'm in Texas. I usually wear Straight Fit Jeans with my boots. There's plenty of room. I wear Slim Fit Jeans when I'm not wearing boots. As for my boots, I only wear Snip, Pointed, and Traditional Toe styles. I don't like Square Toe and Round Toe styles. I don't care for Ropers either. The only time I have ever tucked my jeans into my boots was when I was going through a muddy area and I didn't want to mess up the bottom of my jeans. Fun video, btw.

Posers can be spotted a mile away. Bikers can be the worst...and I'm a life long biker! Western/cowboy boots are a special thing. They actually make you feel stronger and more confident when you wear them. Your gate or stride is also much different than regular shoes. Not everybody can or should wear them...it's the mindset above the neck that will decide if you should or not. Cowboy boots are not a Hollywood fashion accessory in my mind...they are a necessity in my life and I could not imagine living without them. Cool channel. I subscribed.

Just bought a pair of boots, Ariats, I’ll tell you right now I wore them for messing around and doing shit around the house, they’re nothing fancy but all of my buddies have a pair of boots and go on about how comfortable they are so I finally jumped in. Where im from we wear our boots tucked in...when were working or just chillin...if we're trying to be formal we put them over the shaft... but at the end of the day we respect the cowboy rules 🫡

I like the video. I am displaced cowboy, my dad was in the rodeo my best friend was a competitive rider and i have moved from horses( grandfathers ranch) to motorcycles
Also a lot of that “tucked in” look comes from Roughnecks. We used to tuck our pants legs in the keep them out of the mud. A lot of cowboys will do the same when they are in the muck. If you wear them like that in the city or in town, you may hear a chuckle

I just started wear boots after wanting a pairs for about 5 years. Only question I have is socks lol. I’m confident wearing them I love them. But I have a problem the top of the shaft if the boot just going crazy on my leg as I walk
so are they rubbing/ chaffing your legs, if so taller socks would probably help reduce the boot from rubbing on your skin.
Tuck your pants into the shafts and it will feel better.
I just bought myself some boots in Mexico and I’m in love. I’ve been wanting a pair for a long time now and I plan on wearing them with jeans tucked in. Im not following whatever trend there is because I’m just buying them for my own enjoyment and that’s how I plan on wearing them :)

Howdy! I am a big cowboy boots and hats fan, even tho I come from China, I have been to Houston once and got my boots and hat and I wear them everyday in China, people think it’s cool! I personally don’t tuck my head in my boots however I sometimes tuck them in, because the art design on the shaft really deserted to be demonstrated.
It depends upon where you live. In Texas, it might be the way this commentator says, trousers over the boots. However, in Nevada and Utah, I've seen it differently. Everything tucked in. --And these were REAL working cattle men.

I got 2 pair of boots, one for workin in (my 2 year old Justin’s that I had cut off my after my Motorcycle wreck and I just got them fixed up just need to re sole them, then other pair are my clean nice goin out ones that I want to keep nice as a “dress shoe”

I only wear boots. 365 days a year. I generally wear jeans on the outside, but if I'm farming, I'm either in dust or mud, or both. I don't want my jeans all dirty on the bottom, so I tuck them in my boots. On horseback, I usually wear 'em outside my boots, just so I don't look too buckaroo.
I like cuffing my pants alittle as that’s just what I do with other shoes and boot styles. I only tuck my pants with my hiking and snow shoes
I wear boots everyday of my life and I always tuck my pants. If some random guy is worried or says some stupid crap to me about my pants tucked because of his idea of "fashion" then I'm more than willing to talk about how much I care about their opinion.

Just my two cents, tall-top buckaroo boots can be worn "shotgun" (pants tucked in). That's how they're meant to be worn and, personally, that's just how I prefer to wear my high-top boots.
buckaroo boots are a totally different boot. regular western boots, IMO, should be worn with jeans on the outside. I love the look of buckaroo boots.

I was told that traditionaly you tuck one leg in if you own a farm/ranch but also work other jobs. And both legs if you own and make your living from your ranch/farm. But that is mostly forgoten/not used much anymore
When I was in Tennessee a dear friend of mine gifted me a pair of cowboy boots. At first I wore them with my pants down to the ankle as you normally do, but since I drive around on a motorcycle in the Australian bush I found tucking them is far better for my situation. Rocks, bushes and all the tics and eight legged bastards aren't exactly ideal especially with how many are around.
Also usually nobody cares how i'm wearing my boots and more how strange it is for a Korean-Australian to be wearing them. Great video nonethless.

I dont know, i used a Walmart brand backpack. You can wear whatever you want. If you really want you can get a leather one but a cheap backpack does just fine. I guess just think color coordination like back pairs easier but i aint a fashion guy lol

Old timers wore boots outside because it protected their trousers, before tough jeans, easy laundry etc. Was easier to clean boots than to wash the trousers.

I have to say. Iv worn boots all my life. If I'm working in the mud or slop im tucking my jeans at least partially into my boots
me being mexican, we also have a unique style when wearing cowboy boots, of course there's boots for conventional use like work but then you see the ones for dances and the whole style changes. Even the type of pants changes, of course you can wear normal boots but the way you dress is very clubby and less conventional for work

Try boot cut, or slim straight cut jeans. If that bucket effect is really bad try a shorter length in jeans

I just do it because all I have are skinny jeans because I can hardly ever find my size because I have one pair of boot cut jeans and their a 30W 34L but really I fit like a 28W 36L and when I can find a 30W 34L their expensive jeans

When I was a kid if you tucked your Jean's into your boots and weren't wearing spurs about to get on a horse they were brutal and used to beat people up for that.
Thanks to the movie Urban Cowboy, the western wear trend does include many posers. It did for western wear what soccer moms did for trucks and SUV's. Made them more expensive and harder to find. My motto is, Wear what you like how you like. Peace!
