Fascinating clip - I've seen that announcer changeover between BBC2 and the OU before but never pondered it properly. Did Peter Brook really come in just to do the 50-75 minutes of OU programming - was it some kind of split-shift system with PB overseeing the following morning's OU session too, I wonder? Someone on here will be able to tell us, I'm sure.
@treffynnon19 Hi. It depended on what time BBC Closedown was - and if it 'clashed' then sometimes an announcer would pick up the 'late OU' shift (they would be about midday writing scripts for later in the week - and pop upstairs to OU Con to run a couple of programmes)
Sort of split shift - Brookie would have been in in the afternoon writing scripts and then would pop upstairs to OU con to run a couple of programmes. OU was the strangest thing as an announcer - A 'step back in time...'

Once you heard that gently esoteric OU ident you knew you were really into the early hours
This Open University theme use to give me the creeps as a child,
Was BBC 2 24 hours in the 1980's?
Why do we never see the word HIGH anywhere north of us on a pressure chart in winter now?
No BBC 2 wasn't 24 hours in the 1980's, it went off air after midnight and reopen in time for Open University just before 7 the following day.
Bill Giles King Of The “Winks”
Wow! I’m 47 but I thought the computerised weather maps started late 80’s to early 90’s. I must be losing my memory? 🤪
February 1985
This was actually only the second week of these new graphics.
"Muscular Dystrophy"
Is he just having a bad hair day, or is Bill Giles wearing a toupee?
