For the heads up thanks @Davy at FBW for being a big part in this. This was a very hard project to do since rudder being tied to the tiller is hardwired in Asobo. Davy spent a long time trying to separate and had to do a little “hack” to make it work.
Followed your lead and set the TCA sidestick as the tiller. Also placed a thin strip of white tape on both the slider knob and the base of the sidestick mount to mark the “zero” (straight ahead) point. It allows for a quick reset when rolling into a straight taxi segment. Works like a charm!
and I was going nuts thinking something is wrong with my setup...Luckily I have the TCA Quadrant...so i'll give it a try and assign the tiller to the thrust on the joystick..Thank you Gavin
I am using a spare Thrustmaster joystick just for this new tiller function together with the Alpha, Bravo and rudder pedals. Works like clockwork. FBW also mapped a button to separate the rudder from the tiller to mainly use while taxing and checking surface controls at the same time.
Thanks for that. I have recently been learning this aircraft. I have rudder pedals and couldn’t work out why I couldn’t steer well on taxiing. I saw the cabin tiller wheel but it want doing anything. It’s now working and I have to say, down to you. Cheers.
wow, this is fantastic. i had to try this new function immediately (and installed LFBO at the same time) and it works so lovely with the twist axis of the TCA. thanks for the great video! :) oh and btw, fbw also just added user definable waypoints :)
After the last new update FBW a320neo to turn left I have to turn the rudder to the right and vice versa, while on the a320 I don't have a problem, nor do I have a problem on the other planes( joystic pxn 2119)
thats so cool :) i actually have a thrustmaster twcs, airbus quadrant, joystick and just bought the tfrp(rudders). great thing is that the twcs has a rudder switch feature which wasnt in use since I have peddals. now i'm looking forward in using this new function :)
Tbh I couldn't get use to it hardest thing for me was the nose wheel doesn't auto center when have no input have to center yourself and I just snake up the taxi way. Defo something to master. I like the turning circle though with tiller, does add realism.
Great, thanks for that, AWESOME. I though find it very difficult to use the slide as A/C starts moving faster on the taxiway, I rather use the stick for the rudder controls, as I used all the time, but unfortunately, the stick is erratic only with A320NX FlyByWire aircraft. Any inputs please, I still need help. Cheers
If you have the sidestick and pedals you can assign the sidestick R-axis Z to the tiller. For me it works perfect and looks more realistic. Sometimes I like to go to a real simulator and this gives me a more similar sense as when I use a real tiller
This is way much realistic using the tiller now. I use it with the tilt function of the airbus stick and have now my rudder pedals as they should be in an Airbus configuration. The inertia of the tiller is great modeled too. So we have to respect the 10knots for 90degrees turns and anticipate the turns. By the way a lot of companies starts engine 2 first in order to have the yellow hydraulic pressure available for taxi and do not required to activate the electric pump. Thanks for sharing that video. Could be great if you can do a short video of the new waypoints function of the MCDU.
This is an area that is often cause of confusion and misunderstanding. And to answer you need to consider two scenarios; Single engine taxi. Two engine start. I’ll start with the latter. On a two engine start it really doesn’t matter what engine you start first. On pushback you’re connected to a 15 tonne tug and you’ll be starting the engines whilst attached to this tug. It doesn’t matter what engine you start because you won’t go anywhere with a tug attached to you. Each engine runs its own hydraulic system and ideally, you want the green system (Off engine 1) pressurised so that the normal brakes (that come off the green) are working. But this isn’t as important when you have a 15 tonne anchor attached! A lot of older legacy airlines chose to have their SOPs dictate engine 2 is always started first when you decide to start both engines. Why they did this I don’t know and I can’t remember. I suspect it was a old Boeing SOP that filtered down into company’s SOP when they acquired Airbus into their fleet. So, when you start both, it really doesn’t matter. On single engine taxi, you always start engine 1 first. This is mainly because of the previous hydraulic reference. You want your normal brakes working when you taxi. To achieve this, you really want engine 1 running. The PTU could do this for you if you decided to taxi on engine 2 only. However, PTUs fail more than engines. And if you lose the PTU, you’ll lose the normal brakes leaving you only on alternate brakes off the yellow system (eng 2). Although this isn’t bad, it’s not ideal as having engine 1 running and looking after the normal brakes. In respects to always starting engine 1 first, irrespective of scenario. This is now just Airbus SOP. To avoid confusion, and the potential of forgetting to start engine 1, you just always start engine 1 first. This way, you never have to think about what engine to start first. It will just always be the same order.

i really cant see why they are making this so hard when they could just set it up like the PMDG instead i need to make a new profile just to get to the runway
It runs automatically when there is a difference of greater than 500psi between the green and yellow hyd systems. In this case the yellow elec hyd pump is on and it will provide full pressure to the yellow system which will be about the same as in the green and therefore the PTU won't run.
