- Dear friends
As you’ve noticed I’ve ventured beyond PJ for my foodie haunt. This episode will be KL. This isn’t the first time that I’ve featured KL, if you’ve followed all my videos you’d have realized I’ve featured Pudu & Petaling street some 6 months back. Whilst it’s rather refreshing to step out of PJ but some old problems like the traffic jam is back. Although it’s quite annoying but the consolation is things are getting back to normal. There’s no saying that I won’t return to PJ again to feature their foodie, this really would depend on the research and your requests. Meanwhile please go out and support the local street food, be it in PJ or otherwise. Thanks and catch you in the next.

Thank you ❤️

Hi Uncle Elmo, love ur video, been follow since u started this channel. my personal feedback, the intro background music may be lower down. 😊😊
Today have try recommend Uncle Weng Fish Head Mee, so nice!! Thanks Elmo Lee, for introducing all the nice food.
Thanks Venice glad u approved
another great series .... !!
soup mix with Alcohol not sure when it started, i believe the original fish head noddle doesn't have, only recent year.
You r right Garry the recipe has gotten commercialized
For the one behind Brem Mall, it'd slightly be more convenient once MRT is available in the area within this month
Nice!!!
finally new episode
There's 1 outlet in PJ that serves cod fish head noodles. The soup is not particularly nice, but the fried cod fish was crispy outside, soft inside, very nice. But over the past few years, they keep saying no cod fish, despite still listed on the menu. I stop going there anymore. I really missed having fried cod fish head in my noodles.
Thanks tham I've never being served with cod fish
I thought the one I used to go at Damansara Kim was pretty good. It's one of the stalls facing the shophouses but I think he moved to those shoplot now.
That's one of the worse I had
@@benjaminlooi8735 oh ok, I went there last maybe 8 years ago and Fish Head noodle never was my fav food compared to other Chinese dishes. I'll take your word for it and for the fact that our Si fu here didn't mention it. :)
I love Fish head dishes.. soup noodles as well as curry !! Agree the freshness of fishes is important! Your review will be noted!!!👍🏻👍🏻
Btw the rest of your family converse Cantonese as eloquently as you? 🤗
Thanks Eddie No they speak mostly English
@@malaysiafood328 Ah! You are so blessed!! Pedigree Cantonese is such a poetic dialect!! 👍🏻👍🏻

Dear Elmo, if you can do an episode on the best steam fish head in PJ / KL. Very popular fish and taste fantastic if done well . Thanks
Thanks Kenneth let me do some research first
Woo Pin is my favourite
Many thanks, Elmo, for yet another entertaining and informative video. Must try the restaurant in Starling Mall as it's the closest to my home. I really appreciate the photos which show KL in years gone by - a lot of nostalgia for me. By the way, I know you appear in the photos at 5:15 and 5:18 but are you also the performer at 1:10 ?
Thanks wong yes I am
@@malaysiafood328 I went to Mr. Fish at Starling Mall on November 15 but there was a notice that it has closed down permanently. Too bad!
My fav is Tao Xiang Bah Kut Teh Fish Head Noodles
Long time ago traditional fish head noodle doesn't add evaporated milk because cooking the fish head itself in the soup is enough to turn the soup white. But nowadays evaporated milk is added because vendor unable to cook the soup till white-ish colour due to the amount of customer in the short amount of time. Am I right or wrong ? can someone clarify.
Absolutely right if the fish is fresh enough u can cook the soup to a whitish color, adding milk is a shortcut but isn't totally bad coz milk gives the sweet taste
@@malaysiafood328 Thanks for clarifying Uncle. Yes! I love the hind of sweetness from the milk :D
I like SS20 fish head noodle. Fresh fish. Anyone try there before?
👍👍👍

But Jason claypot was done adi unless u r thinking solely for KL
Were u at yulek today?
Yes u should hv come by to give me a high 5. LOL
Yes. I wanted to but i was driving. 😕
I went to Woo Pin fish head noodle several times already but they never refill my soup...why???
Really? But each time I was there they refilled when my soup was low. Guessed I drank the soup faster than the average consumer
@@malaysiafood328 Just my opinion, Woo Pin standard has dropped quite significantly compare many years back. Maybe of quick turn around to cater for incoming crowds
Don't bother going to Uncle Weng. Real slaughter house. I went there the a few months ago during MCO, I thought of helping them out because business weren't good. Right after MCO when business picked up, they raised the price immediately. Not only that, I added side dish of fried fish and asked what is the price, the lady boss said depends? My wife asked depends on what, don't they fix the price? Does it depend on what car we drove there and how we dress? I will never go there anymore. Unscrupulous and dishonest.
Sorry wang guessed you caught them on a wrong day
I disagree fish head maifun started in Singapore. I have eaten at Swee Kee (Kah Soh) Singapore in the mid-80s. At that time Kah Soh wasn't an old lady yet but she was running the business and the name change came much later. This, that I am narrating, is the true origin of yue tow mai fun. The first fish head used was the sang yue - haruan or toman, found in abundance in the backwaters of bye-gone Malaya. My father, if alive would be more than a hundred years old, was a subcontractor engaged with the construction of temporary army barracks on the fringes of the Malayan jungle for the colonial government. That was in the early 50s. We were in Kuala Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Benta, and a few other places. There were many little zhe char stalls in those small villages/towns those days. Fish head maifun was always top of the menu and every stall was offering this popular item. Cheap too. My family always ordered this delicious meal. I am sure there are some in their 70s or 80s still living in those places that I mentioned. They can confirm my story.
Thanks wong there will always be a debate between spore and msia on the origins of chicken rice, bkt and fish head noodle etc
@@malaysiafood328 I am living in Singapore and quite certain fish head vermicelli will not get caught up in a debate of who is the original for the simple reason that the early dish available here used toman fish head. Now, toman fish was popularised in the 80s and they were farmed on a large scale in Johore. I even knew the guy who imported toman fish into Singapore. Malaysians had been using wild haruan and toman since way back when.
@@tomansebarau it was initially a cantonese restaurant opened in the 30s by the immigrants from canton, closed recently

Woo pin taman danau desa 3 times I tried ended up diaherea due to milk they put. No more return there
At last, a non pork dish for a non Muslim 😀
Fish head noodle ain't my fav. Lets get real. If the soup isn't white without added Carnation, they ain't using enough fish bones to make the soup. It's just a waste of time.
I've gotta use to carnation since it carries the sweet taste all the same
