    Thank you so much my husband and I are doing the same as you both are and learning as we go and we just found the second Gray leaver and we were thinking that our valve needed to be replaced on the other one because we kept having water in our hose so someone had pulled that and not put it back in to the kitchen sink so thank you so much so helpful good luck on your journey

    Good information for anyone who's thinking about RVing. My husband taught me everything you have to do on the outside of our camper because you never know when you might have to do it without them.

      +Lori Nevel Yeah, I have really slacked on learning! This was a good step for me. I've watched how to hook up the trailer too, but doubt I will ever be doing that on my own. You never know though!

      +Spot The Scotts // FULL TIME RVing Life! Funny you should say that. Last summer while we were camping in our brand-new 33 foot travel trailer my stepdaughter had a medical emergency and had to be taken to the hospital by my husband. I was left to pack up the camper. I had helped my husband many times with unhooking things and getting the towbars hooked up but I had never pulled the travel trailer before. Thank goodness for friendly campers around. The owner of the campground got the truck hooked up to the camper and away I went pulling the camper for the very first time. Luckily I had only 1 mile down the road to pull it and parked it at my brother-in-law's house. I was nervous.

      +Diane Craig Glad somebody liked my joke. Papa Bear was not amused. lol - and yes, I did just fine with the tanks! Only had to empty them 2-3 times while he was gone I believe, although, I didn't include it in any videos. oops

    I SWORE when we got our first trailer that I wasn't doing the tanks. All the other wives in the camping group do not handle them. However when we got our second trailer which had two grey and two black, I gave in to the spousal pressure that I was more nimble to crawl under the rear to pull those tanks. I was very surprised over the controversy from flushing the tanks... We've always used one of those "pocket hoses" for our flush, as it takes up less space. We do have a spigot that we place when directly at a camp site, and a trick Hubster learned from his dad who RV'd for many years before us, keep a 50-50 bleach and water in a spray bottle and spray all fittings when done, our sewer lines when we pull them, and our pocket hose.

      +tracy Quoka Thanks for the tip! I was surprised over the controversy as well lol but I guess it comes with the territory when we make everything we do so public.

    Great video, very helpful for how to flush the tanks. Isn't it strange how we fall into the double standard roles of the gals do the inside stuff when setting up camp or breaking down camp and the guys do the outside side. Even with the hauling. In talking with my honey bear the other day I had said it's strange how the guy is expected to haul around a big rig; do hook ups and drive etc and most times (not all cuz I know there are gals out there who do their fair share of taking turns driving) the fella is expected to suddenly know how to drive with a big ol' house behind them, like it's natural and just hidden in the male gene base and comes to surface when needed. Just the thought of me driving a 37+ foot rig or truck with a huge fifth wheel gives me the willie nellies but I know I have to learn to share in the driving cuz it's the fair thing to do plus if something were to happen and we were out somewhere I would need to know how to do it all.

      +Better Late Than Never Totally with you. Just so happens that in our family we like the roles. But women certainly CAN drive these things and do - I choose not too because of my depth perception issues (which you'll hear about it tomorrow's video.) And he likes doing all the "man work" and I don't, lol.

    Hello, I recently purchased a 16 Montaba High Country. I see the 2 grey levers but I only see one lever for black. I see two black tanks in the control panel inside. Is it one lever for for both black tanks? One of my black tanks reads full. I’m wondering if there is a lever somewhere I haven’t seen or maybe a dirty tank giving a false reading. Thank you so much for the help

    I love watching you guys! Just wondering in this video location, did your site not have full hook-up and you had to move to the dump station every few days or was it do to freezing temps? When we have full hook-up we just leave our valves open to drain directly into the sewer and don't use the tanks. However, we are in the south and it doesn't freeze. Again, love watching you!

    • @SpotTheScotts
      @SpotTheScotts  8 років тому

      No, we never, ever leave our tanks open as 1) it invited dreaded sewer bugs and nasty indoor smells and 2) it's actually not good for your tanks because paper and waste collects in the tanks if it isn't flushed through by the large batches of water. It's better for the tanks if you let them fill and then flush them out. However, to each his own and it's your preference of course, but that is the reason why we do it the way we do. :) Thanks!!

    Do the hoses always stay connected? I'd like to see the process of hooking them up completely and where are they stored after?

    • @SpotTheScotts
      @SpotTheScotts  8 років тому

      No they aren't connected when moving. Our water hose stores in our storage bay and the sewage hose stores in the trailer's back bumper!

  • @dannyman12
    @dannyman12 8 років тому

    Brian, you need to re-examine your procedure.
    I'm with others on this topic. Grey water hose would never touch my fresh water connection. I along with others would drain black tank, flush black tank and then grey tank rinse the stink line.
    The thought of the grey hose being in contact with the fresh water in the RV goes against all health rules.
    Really do enjoy your videos!

    • @SpotTheScotts
      @SpotTheScotts  8 років тому

      I'm still not getting what you're saying. Fresh water going in, and coming out the sewer hose. Nothing is making contact with the water supply. That's a water hose, just a regular water hose. Please explain to me what I am missing.

    • @dannyman12
      @dannyman12 8 років тому +1

      +Spot The Scotts // FULL TIME RVing Life! The black tank flush (nozzle) is connected by fluid to the black tank. This means that there is potential for black tank fluid to be in contact with that connection. So when you connect the gray water hose to that (nozzle) connection, it could contaminate the gray hose fitting; which you then connected to the park spigot. I would use a spigot adapter between the campground spigot and gray hose; and disinfect after every use. This would ensure that the black fluid never physically contacts the park spigot.

    • @SpotTheScotts
      @SpotTheScotts  8 років тому

      +dannyman kingston,ont I see what you're saying now. Just the fitting touching it, not necessarily water back flowing. Sure thing... we can definitely get one of those adapters. Thank you for explaining!

    shouldn't you flush the black before dumping the 2 grays? to clean the "stinky slinky".

    • @SpotTheScotts
      @SpotTheScotts  8 років тому

      +SKPjoe Coursegold I think he usually does. He didn't realize I was going to ask him to do it and show me how (he doesn't do it every single time.)

    • @SpotTheScotts
      @SpotTheScotts  8 років тому

      +SKPjoe Coursegold Not sure if I understood. We do dump black first, then the grays. The flushing is just to flush out the EMPTY black tank.... which ends up with clean water at the end.

    • @skpjoecoursegold366
      @skpjoecoursegold366 8 років тому

      after emptying the black, there is lots of black stuff still in the tank, that's why you flush to get it 98% out ----- then the 2 grays. i just talked to a couple that have one of those tornado black tank flushes, he says there is all kinds of black stuff coming out with the flush.

    • @SpotTheScotts
      @SpotTheScotts  8 років тому +1

      +SKPjoe Coursegold yeah usually that is when he does it, in between. He didn't know I was going to ask him to do it for the video.

    when in the closed positions does your black tank valve stick out further than the grey tank valve?

    Thank you for making this video! Now I can tell my husband that we did NOT mess up with what we did last night. How ever, anybody know how we can do a flush on our back black tank? we have 2 black tanks and 2 grey tanks and we only figured out how to flush our front black tank. we have a Montana high country 362rd 2019...

  • @bekayezme
    @bekayezme 8 років тому

    Why are you using the drinking water to clean your tanks? That's what the dump station is for. Not right.

    • @SpotTheScotts
      @SpotTheScotts  8 років тому

      +Green House Homestead It's not specifically "drinking water", it's our water hookup which we are paying for at the park. Which we shower with, flush our toilets with, anything inside the trailer. There's no reason to go to a dump station when you have a sewer hookup at your site, which you're also paying for. This is just using a hose for anything you'd use a hose for. Never heard of anyone having an issue with this before, certainly not meant to offend. It's not like any dirty water goes back into the water supply, it goes out our sewer hose into the sewer.

    • @SpotTheScotts
      @SpotTheScotts  8 років тому

      +Green House Homestead Do you think that it's going into the water supply? It's not... it's going into the sewer with all the other nasty stuff. Just trying to politely figure out/understand why you think this is "not right."

    • @bekayezme
      @bekayezme 8 років тому

      I wasn't trying to be mean. One thing about writing, there's no feelings in it! LOL Water from hoses can back up into the drinking water. Some rv parks are suppose to have a thing on the faucet that doesn't allow for backflow, but I'm sure some don't. People do use that water for drinking and it's only suppose to potable water (drinking water)..so it's suppose to be safe water. Just for other opinions, I did ask some other people about this and most agreed one shouldn't use the potable water for cleaning tanks or others said they use a two spigot attachment (which really, I don't see the difference because it's still attached to the mother spigot). That's why the dump stations has water there with a sign 'not for drinking'. By the way, I do enjoy your videos. You two are really are funny together. :)

    • @SpotTheScotts
      @SpotTheScotts  8 років тому

      +Green House Homestead no worries I didn't take it as mean just was totally taken aback because have never had any issues with this.... We aren't anywhere near filling our tank but will look into the back flow preventer thing. To my knowledge the way he's doing it would never back flow bc he's not filling it. But I know most people with a sewer hookup sign aren't packing up their whole setup and going to a dump station when they're staying somewhere a while. Our park doesn't even have water at their dump station. We will ask them about it though see what hey have in place. Wasn't an issue I was aware of!
