2019 Nissan Altima vs Honda Accord Comparison

- All-wheel drive is becoming an important factor when it comes to buying a new car, which is why so many people are flocking to SUVs and crossovers. But why get a crossover when you can get a sporty sedan with extra traction? That’s the thesis behind the new Nissan Altima, which now offers AWD along with a sleek new look.
Even if it has AWD, though, the Altima still needs to be as good as one of the best and most popular family sedans out there, the Honda Accord, to stand a chance in this tough segment.

Is this us? What kind of trim accord?
Lol. Until the honda engine fails due to oil dilution. Then its a different story.😆😆

I know most things about the accord is better but something about the Altima makes me feel at home
Right they capture that homie vibe it feels right
I have no problems in my Altima. If I want to pass someone. Done with no lagging. The cvt in this model is exceptional compared to the previous Altimas. The seats are very comfy, and unlike this video, everything is screwed in properly. Also the package this Altima has is a different interior package I have. No sparkles! Lol and charcoal seats, etc. Very stylish. Everyone around me also stares and compliments my car. So it is worth it to me.
Don’t like the way they underrate the Altima. Has very good handling, plus it’s a bit punchy when stepping on the accelerator
Right I love mine more than the accord the accord is more bland and luxury Altima is sporty and that’s what we want
Til the VTEC and turbo kick in lol
I am 6ft5, i went to buy accord but when i sat down my head was coming in the way of sunroof, accord might have more passenger leg room but the headroom is not good, i went to buy altima 2019, its more wider and have more headroom and like the driving and design too, so i ended up buying altima. I love the car, so smooth and powerful with great design. If u are as tall as me and still want sedan go for altima
Bhavdeep Singh “more wider” Nice grammar!!
Don’t judge my grammar bro, english is my second language
Damn baby you’re an giant 😂
I agree I’m 6ft and the accord is not to comfy ..
I'm 6'5 as well and I fit just fine. You just need to lower the seat a bit.
I love my 2019 Altima SR

I didn't even have to watch the second half of the video and I was already convinced 😂😂
But then again, I have a 2.0t Sport 👍

I’ve always loved altimas. I have a 2014 with 51k miles and it drives smooth. Then my gf made me jealous by purchasing a 2019 and in comparison, the 2019 is very noticeable in power and handling. Seats are extremely comfy lol
I drove both. The Altima is all looks. Once you start touching things inside and driving it, you’ll notice how cheap it feels. Can’t say the same about the Accord which was really solid all around.
AJ Lee Ehhhh, the Accord looks good, but it is no Mercedes Benz either. You don’t have to poke far on the dash and doors to start feeling hard plastics and fake wood. The entire rear half of the Accord is hard plastics. Quality and fit and finish goes to the Mazda6 in this segment. It is then followed by the Camry as long as you stick to XLE and XSE grades.
@@Soh90 You're right. The Honda will outlast the Benz. Mercedes is a money pit.

@@thundergato84 - You're right. Mercedes is about quality and luxury and the brand is more reliable now. If you want that, you must have real money. Only broke people buy a Honda because they can't afford more than one vehicle, so it has to be reliable.
I love my altima
I was heavily considering the Altima back in October and the more I look back on it, the more I’m thankful that Nissan took too long to get the Altimas into East Coast dealerships, keeping me from pulling the trigger on one when I wanted to. Got an AWD Stinger now... get the AWD and I can smoke an Accord. Very happy
Devon Gee yeah but it’s still a KIA lol no value
brad cast thanks 🙏 I’ll just go buy a 1 of 10 Mclaren or somethin

@@gigi9467 dude you are wrong on both accounts. Get some glasses.
The Accord has always been a great car but I didn't lease this gen Accord because I think it's the ugliest midsize sedan except maybe the Camry. The Accord is more sporty and will probably last longer. The Altima is more comfortable and has a smoother ride.
Iam driving 2007 3.5 Altima since new. Changed oil and brakes only. It has 208k and it runs as it was in 2007
I'll take the Nissan any day

It wouldn’t even matter , both of these cars are great , good looking , and worth the purchase !
You can purchase an Altima in about 2 years from Hertz.
If they put Altima seats on Accord this will be a big step .
Those zero gravity seats are butter! My favorite thing about driving the new Altima.
And a better engine
@@perkhere2252 it’s a family car, it’s not supposed to be that sporty
What amazes me is I have one of these Altima AWDs and I find it has very good passing acceleration and I drove the Accord before deciding on the Nissan. Really wasn't impressed by the car at that price. These folks are Honda fans, obviously. Oh, and I'm getting mid 40 MPGs (Imperial, I live in Canada) but that has to be very high 30s in US gallons (or more). These need to be driven to see the real story, not these one sided reviews.
I ❤ altima 2019
Can't lie, I'm loving my 18' Accord sport, never have I ever had a Honda, this is my first, I hear such great things! I've only had the car a week, 6k miles on the Odometer , we will see how she does.

@@jd2890 haven't had a problem with it I run a catch-can afterwards for the blow by but no issues ...the 1.5t engine is pretty much the one used in the civic just tuned with a bit more power
Dumb question
I drive an Accord EX-L 2.0T and I’ve never had any of the issues they complained about with the active safety tech. The Accord has lane keeping assist just like the Altima, and the blind spot monitoring and cross traffic alert work well. The system on the Accord hardly ever beeps at you, unlike what she says in the video. The only time the Accord keeps beeping at you is if you don’t know how to drive 🙄.
I totaled my car and got the new Altima for a rental. I was happy with how they have upgraded the tech. Really this is the one area were GM has dragged the comp in this class. Anyway I liked it. I sat to high but other than that I really liked it. The down sides were the glove box being made of obviously different materials, a few squeaks and rattles, and the CVT feels like a CVT. Crazy thing is my car was considered totaled. I tried to buy a Genesis, Regal GS, then.....I couldn't decide. So I told the guy let me try the Honda Accord Sport because I liked how it looked. First this is the best CVT I have driven and I don't like them at all. Well anyway I purchased it and just let me say it is still better than the Altima even though they have closed the gap a little. In conclusion, I almost had several accidents in the Altima because of that "safe suite"! It braked me hard when I did not need or want it too. The one in the Accord is so much less intrusive.
Same. I personally don't like cvt's but the accords was much more manageable that I thought. I got the 1.5 cvt instead of a 2.0 sport automatic and yeah i would've really loved the 2.0 the 1.5 definitely isn't bad. Also that I got it for a really good price under msrp compared to all of 2.0's i could find basically costing as much as the top trim accord (touring)
In my view Nissan has been passed by Toyota, Honda , as well as Hyundai and Kia. In the 70s and 80s Datsun held it own against Honda and Toyota but today I rank them with Mitsubishi a second rate manufacturer . Having said that I love the GTR so it’s specialty cars are great but its main line cars are lacking .
I own a mitsubishi and I second your statement 100%. They use the same Jatco CVT transmissions in the nissans, it's a nightmare
Marc Scordato and that’s just your assessment really Hyundai and Kia ? Like I get Toyota but even Honda is iffy, plus nissan outsells all those companies
the Nissan is still a solid car thought the new 2019 Maxima is a beast
it's pretty much the same as the 2016 maxima
Maximas dont ride good, too small inside and the steering is wayyyy too heavy
Honda's front end looks like a cheap imitation of dodge charger From 2015.nissan is better looking design wise.
I have a 2019 Deep Blue Pearl Altima SR I freaking love it looks better than the Accord in my opinion and since everyone want to hate on Nissan CVT good luck with your oil dilution in your Honda and the Camry new 8 speed hunts for gears
The SR does look very good. I also like it better than the Accord.
Nah the accord looks better Altimas still kinda looks like the old one the camery even looks better than the Altima
I work at a Nissan dealership and the replacements of the CVTs have already started.
Do they not make 5 speeds 6 speeds anymore
Miguel Ircontar Wait till that CVT goes out.
Love it, compare in same red color, so we can fairly choose the design without distracting different color..
The Altima is actually better. I traded my 2019 Accord in for a 21 Altima VC-Turbo and it rides better and it smoother
Right . Plus the Nissan looks better
You made the right choice
Nah nah the 2.0T is the way to go I swear it’s such a fun engine to use🔥🔥
Nissan is the Chrysler of the big three Japanese brands.
Rodney Nasir didn't Nissan merge with Renault?

Rodney Nasir It’s just their cvt transmission.. Their engines themselves are tanks.
I have a 2017 Altima and I love it, even the parents loved it they can’t wait tell they can pay off their Mazda 3 so they can trade it in for one though now that’s the Mazda 3 has AWD maybe they will just get another one hard to tell
if the altima had a regular transmission i would get it in a heartbeat
I love my 8 year old Accord. It just amazes me how 8 years later & still the same complaint about the seats (in your reivew), about them making you feel uncomfortable after a while. I have the same issue with my car lol
I bought the ACCORD.
A c c o r d. Is a best buy and trade value.
The local Honda dealer acts like they are doing you a favor just talking to you. Don't buy a used Accord from the dealer; they act like the car is worth it's weight in gold. It's just a used car.
The Altima is considerably better looking than the Accord, one of the worst in the class in style points
And it offers AWD, but the rest of the car is easily beaten by the Accord.
The Accord is the best in this class, if you can get over its unibrow face.
The Future Is Here and claw taillights
The Future Is Here the Altima is not better looking
I would get Camry by
I must be in the Twilight zone because they actually said the Accord looks better than the Altima. Also, the way he wrote off the AWD like it was no big deal. It just feels like you guys were paid by Honda.
For NY/ NJ weather AWD is necessary to be many people & for out roads
Accord win for sure.
No contest it's actually kinda insulting that they would even been seen together

Now stop and be honest not emotional. Remember you own no stock in Nissan! Think about it.
@@rueben44 huh?
Honda needs to make the accessory sport grill standard on the Accord. Totally changes the look of the car. I got rid of the unibrow on my Sport within a month of buying it.
Funny my complaint about my 2010 Civic is that I feel numb on my legs after long trips! Seems like they are not able to solve this ?!!!
Wouldn't even consider the Altima if I was planning on keeping it beyond the warranty. You know the Accord will stand the test of time.

Nissan is owned by fiat bro stick to Hondas
The accord wins but I've always felt it to be a cross competitor to the altima/maxima and camry/avalon. Nissan and Toyota have those premium sedans but Honda doesn't so Honda has to take the accord and make it compete with both classes of cars. Mazda does this too with the 6. That means the accord and 6 are more premium than the average midsized sedan but they also cost much more (though not as much as a full sized sedan). That was the main reason I bought an Altima over an accord a few years ago. The Altima was nearly $6,000 cheaper than the accord and the Altima had a push button ignition whereas the accord i tested did not.
what trim level was the accord ?
If I was gonna get a Nissan sedan, I'd just cut to the chase & get a Maxima...
id do the same
Yeah for a harsher ride, heavy steering, and cramped interior space
Before 2015 the cvt was bad after 2014 friction and the unreliability has been improved
When it comes to the mid size category, Nissan comes in last this generation.

Good luck with that complex turbo engine in the Honda. The jury is still out on long-term reliability of turbo compared to normal engines.
Both Toyota and Nissan are very smart to continue to offer efficient, robust, and easy-to-maintain normally-aspirated engines.
bboucharde nissan is still doing cvts they are not reliable as well..
You guys should do a comparison between the Altima & the next generation Legacy

New Accord (and Civic) with 1.5T are not recommended by CR. Nuff said.
I own a base '14 Accord and have a new Altima rental on vacation. Altima is cheap, sub par backup camera. Altima's have more power on paper, but my old Accord is far quicker. I commute 30 miles in Minnesota, don't need AWD, if you need traction, buy snow tires, way better. Seats are fine in both. You don't need AWD in rain. Traction control kept your wheel from spinning! The steering on the Altima didn't like to center.
This accord is EXL trim in us?

Great review, however, Nissan reliability has really gone down in the last decade. For example, the 2013-2016 Altima is known for high amount of CVT failures, see the Altima CVT settlement at www.altimacvtsettlement.com. The Maxima and Sentra also have high rate of failures. The CVT costs range from $4-7k to replace.
I would never buy a Nissan again as the quality has gone down and the reliability is low in comparison to other brands.
