      The Honda's detuned version of the Civic Type R's engine and its excellent 10 speed transmission are truly impressive. But the new 2.5L turbo in the Korean vehicles and their much improved DCT may well be tweaked to improve its performance in upcoming versions. As for Toyota, the Camry's somewhat old-in-the-tooth naturally aspirated V6 won't shine in this kind of comparison. Of course, Toyota could turbocharge that engine to improve the Camry's performance but that would risk putting a dent (even a minor one) in Toyota's reputation for reliability. And that's something that Toyota is very unlikely to risk.

      Many drivers reported that their Honda Accords had engine problems regarding oil consumption. The engines would burn through oil far more rapidly than usual, forcing drivers to replenish their oil too often. Replacing the oil could add up fast, and fixing the actual problem can cost $1,200 or more.

      I have been loving my 2020 Accord Sport 2.0T. It’s a real sleeper. The power delivery and the driving dynamics just feel more refined and it all feels more buttoned down than the competitors, IMO. For me that’s more important than some of the tech lacking and less premium materials inside. Not that there is anything really wrong with their interiors.

    Wow! Sonata N-line is impressive. If the driver was more familiar with Sonata, I think the result would have been a complete sweep. Camry and the Accord have always been the top sellers year after year before the SUV craze, but maybe Sonata & K5 will creep into their market-share being equally quality cars, or maybe even better.

    1. Despite some reactions/launch issue, Camry is ALWAYS the loser regardless, in any mode. So Turbo owns?

    I'm not sure but if the K5 GT consistently outperforms the Sonata N-Line in this particular drag race mission the difference may be Hyundai's decision to lean toward a more premium vibe with a softer launch compared to the KIA's decision to accept more torque steer while emphasizing performance in their GT model. It's noteworthy that the Sonata's greatest advantage was in the rolling start comparison where its larger, stronger 2.5L engine was already engaged.

If it's something like 4000 rpm for the Camry and 2000 rpm for the Accord, that'll certainly make the Accord quicker. Also, the Accord I'm guessing has to be something like 100lbs to 150lbs lighter. I own a 2021 sonata nline. It doesn't hard launch very well at all. It does better with a gentle roll on the throttle. Sometimes less is more. This is a car you really have to know how to launch or you just get spinning and wheel hop. Also summer tires make a big difference the all seasons suck can't get any traction.

      @HondaAccordPerformance 2 роки тому +4

      Dynos don’t mean a thing. One dyno can say 220 another dyno will spit out 270. 1/4 mile trap speed is the best indicator of power and a Camry is not trapping higher than an accord.

    • @Tbird761
      @Tbird761 Рік тому +2

      Torque is the more important metric here. The naturally aspirated 2GR isn't going to offer the kind of low-RPM torque the turbocharged engines will as these cars rack through gears.
      Remember, power is a measure of the work being done. It's mathematically derived. Torque is a measure of how hard it's turning, the force applied. HP = (RPM * lb-ft) / 5252. The torque the engine delivers depends on its RPM, and as RPM goes up so to ultimately does power. That engine is putting out way less than 300 HP for most of the time it spends accelerating because the engine isn't spinning fast enough to reach that point except at the very end of each gear before then immediately shifting down again.
      This sort of race is the domain of forced induction engines and electric motors.

    That roll race...why honk it when you are just rolling up to the same speed to set up for the actual roll race, and then you floor it without honking? Shouldn't you honk when you are all at the same speed and then floor it? It looked like the two other drivers were completely caught off guard. Either way, Camry is a dinosaur and while it's a decent car, it's just not competitive in this set. Toyota needs to either make a performance oriented hybrid powertrain or just finally give the people a competitive turbo 4. The V6 was a great engine 15 years ago.... The Accord may not have the highest HP numbers but it's the one I'd buy. The Sonata is impressive though, certainly wouldn't fault anyone for buying one, but the Accord is an all around great performer and it's very comfortable to use as a daily driver.

      The beginning of the end for V6 engines began some time ago. In this particular case the 2.5L turbo that Hyundai, KIA, and Genesis are offering in at least 7(!) different vehicles appears to be an especially strong win/win with more power and better fuel economy than comparable V6 versions.

      No it's not the end for the v6 engine, if u look at the numbers the camry v6 gets just as good of fuel economy as the honda and that's what it's about. Besides toyota uses this v6 in other products.

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 3 роки тому +1

      @@mikeharris7261 I'm not arguing the value of a V6 engine. I'm talking about its market appeal. For example, less than 5% (!) of all Camrys are sold with its naturally aspirated V6. That's a major reason that Toyota doesn't offer AWD with that engine. The appeal of a V6 in a midsize sedan is simply not sufficient to justify the cost of design and production.
