- What. a. setup.! Mike has so many tools! He loves tools so much, he's made a good number of his own. So much experience and a genuinely nice guy - Mike has won in life. He no longer has his speed shop, but he still goes out of his way to help others. He teaches basic theory to a lot of the young guys working with him, and he's just so excited that some of them are catching on. There aren't many guys out there so willing to pass on their knowledge. He just wants people to succeed. Mike, thank you SO much for the tour. If you enjoyed the tour Mike took us on, give this video a Like!

This dude is just rattling off knowledge at a breakneck pace without even thinking. It's just all right there, readily accessible in his brain, 0 hesitation. Very impressive.
he has a UA-cam channel youtube.com/@zmotorsports62?si=CnyedSwkK6rDEiNp
This guy is amazing. I'd give money to hang out with him and work on a couple of projects. I would learn so much
An amazing tool collection. But the best part of this video is a father and son who obviously enjoy working together. That's winning.
This is the type of guy that will forget more than most people will ever know! Great tour thanks man.
Petition to release the 6 hour version.
😅
💯
Brilliant
This guy is definitely tied for the best video on this channel so far, alongside the tank guy and the storage unit guy!!
Storage unit guy? What’d I miss?
Holy smokes, what a wealth of knowledge. I really enjoy the guys that make their own tools too. Love the chop stick tip! So much for that Saturday morning yard work! 🤣
I got the notification while I was at work and was pissed I couldn’t watch yet😂
Haha I got a kick out of the chopsticks as well. Thanks for watching!
His heavy equipment crank balancer holder was inspired!! Work less hard and do the same job in less time?? WORD
These are the types of tours I love. These old timers not only have good setups and tools but can tell you great stories with them. Thanks for taking the extra time with this one.
Glad you enjoyed it!
yes, I like the longer video
I want to be like Mike. Not only is he wise but he seems like a very good person!
Boy, I'd love to spend a day with Mike tuning my old Chevy's. I can't imagine how many tricks he has to making things run well. Fantastic tour!
1 hour 36 minutes and 31 seconds of pure joy. What more can I say but thank you and thank you Mike. Such a great setup and a wealth of knowledge - I love seeing people light up while telling stories of their tools. When are we getting merchandise!? I would love a t-shirt and a sticker!
I’m glad you enjoyed this one Sam! I’ve never really thought about merch 🤔. I’ll have to give it some thought. Thanks for watching!!
This is probably my favorite box tour you’ve done, nice one 😊
This Guy from Zmotors is a Genius, I love his tool tours.
Definitely a genius!
Make sure to share his Channel link
Best tool box tour of all time. What a wealth of talent and knowledge
Mike is a stand-up guy with an absolute wealth of knowledge.
He custom made a small relay bracket for his Duramax, and after reaching out to him on TGJ, he made one for me, too.
Very cool. That community at The Garage Journal seems really awesome.
..... when you just suddenly blurt out "wow this guy is smart" to yourself watching a video! This man is just an incredible human being, doesnt gate keep any knowledge at all and is just so quick to follow up with use case and aplications for so many specialty tools. Such a great watch and really does make me hope this knowledge finds its way to new owners becuase theirs experience their that most will never have exposure too...... BRAVO
Saw this guy do his own toolbox tour on his channel! Real knowledgable family!
He’s a genius!
This tour was one the best by far. His collection is immense, his shop is huge and well thought out, and him explaining and sharing every piece was just bliss. I checked out his channel after watching this, he’s worth subbing to
Tons of knowledge. Yeah his channel is awesome!
Guys like this retiring & leaving the industry are going to leave a massive hole in the future for those who want to keep the classics running. Listen and learn from those willing to teach.
Yeah you got that right. 20 green techs couldn’t come close to making up for the experience he has.
Your totally right as a tech now i am seeing its hard to find these guys still around i am starting to be the oldest in the shop at 36😢
What was exciting the most, was watching how excited Mike was to show-and-tell his tools. So Much knowledge. So Fun..
he was having way more fun than we are!
These tool box tours with the Specialty tools (like the owner with the Tank!) are really great ; very passionate and committed mechanics. Another great find TBT.
Glad you liked it!
I have watched all your videos but this is the best one I have been watching for 55 years now and I still love it and I am 68 years old now and have not retired yet
Wow you’ve been watching for 55 years? That’s amazing considering the channel owner is in his early 40s I’d say
- some smart ass kid from Florida
I meant to say wrenching
An amazing gentleman. With a wealth of knowledge. A young person starting out would learn so much working with a man like this.
Well said!
Still has so much enthusiasm for all his kit and the job in general. Pleased he has had the success he clearly deserves.
I shed a tear watching this what an amazing tech and father. That entire set up tells a story.
Preserve this content as a National Treasure. A master class in Tool evolution. Amazing.
I agree!
Mike’s setup is so sweet! Hope to eventually have half that set up in my lifetime.
How many SnapOn salesmen DMed you so far?
I watched his own tour a while ago. What an awesome setup!!!
Love these tours with these guys who have been doing things for decades. I hope these guys are passing their knowledge on somehow. Could you imagine this guy as a teacher in a high school, or as a teacher to young teenagers? He would be incredible.
For those who don’t know, many vocational schools have had to up there pay considerably in recent years. In order to draw instructors, they’ve had to get pretty close or beat current market, hourly wages for mechanics to come teach . Not a bad gig
He actually tutors some of the more green guys he works with. He’s happy to share his knowledge.
This was a real good tool box tour. This guy has a loaded tool collection and it is cool to see father and son working together in a shop. It was cool to see all the tools custom made by him, and that work bench he built was really nice. I wish i was able to do things like that, I just never learned when I was younger.
You can always learn now 🙂
@@ToolBoxTour Yea I know it is never too late but I highly doubt I will ever have the time or money to learn. It's okay.
I hope all of your subs get to see this one, it's no fuss or flair just all fun, real excitement and passion and experience meeting in the same place. Thanks for this one
I hope so too! Thanks for watching!
I'm with you on the comfort grip. I don't like them either. I am 100% a chrome handle guy!! Im sure there are instances when its better, but i prefer chrome all the way!! Also, I love those roto head ratchets!! Most people don't prefer them, but I absolutely love them!! The problem is that the majority of them have absolutely terrible back drag, but if you get a good one like the snap on, carlye, koken, (a few others too), they are the best type of ratchet to use, and the most versatile, in my opinion. They are usually my go to ratchets actually. Its like Mike said in the video, no matter what angle you flex it at, the pressure and centering is always up top, right in the middle of the head, where its supposed to be!! They are also stronger than a standard ratchet, and can yeild higher torque ratings.
Who couldn't like this guy and his tool collection come on guys there should at least 10,000 likes ? Like No 746
Now that's a home shop!!!
My favorite one so far! My mentor growing up 30 years ago was a wealth of knowledge like this man! I was a sponge and I know I didn’t absorb everything. But he’s still just a call away! I wouldn’t be where I am today with out him! If you have a chance to learn for someone like this DO IT! 👍🏼👍🏼
Not many people get the opportunity to learn from someone as sharp as Mike. It’s gold if you can find it.
Oh my goodness I am officially humbled & impressed ! By far the best tour yet. Even better than the Free Air Silencer guy!
I had most of that older stuff over the years. Sold my timing light with advance😮 dial and boss gave it back. Snap-on sent it off for repair which I thought was the cord but apparently not. It came back not red but black plastic and working. $115 but it is my original Snap-on timing light.
Replaced my old Snap-on torque wrenches with vintage ones online 1/2 and 3/8 with reverse ratcheting like head. They both work very well. Cost about $149 each used.
I have several of the big red folding Snap-on MT meters including digital volt ohm and the cylinder balance testeter in the box with manual. You just dial up the cylinder you want to cancel on old cars and push the button and listen or watch for RPM drop.
I got both types of those old lifter pullers. Mine is KD USA.
Still have one Cornwell Blue hard handle stubby #2 Phillips and old yellow handle. Blue-Point USA spin handle and a yellow handle flat tip with a chrome Snap-on blade.
Also have various small letters Snap-on vintage wrenches and a few Blue-point USA combination wrenches. I still have my complete set of Snap-on 3/8 deep chrome SAE socket set I purchased around 1985.
Unfortunately all my old Mac impact and chrome sockets are worn out or discarded due to no dealer.
The only Craftsman tool that survived is my 1/2 drive -V- ratchet. Still use my original 1984-85 Snap-on 3/8 standard length ratchet.
I had the Counselor II scope with rolling stand, but the leads were trashed and I sold it.
I picked up a brand new mechanical RPM gauge with a stem and rubber end you place this thing on the end of a shaft electric motor or compressor and it tells you the RPMs. I never used it but it's a very nice tool. I mean I could have used it in the 80s but didn't have one.
Thanks for sharing!
Man, that shop is perfect! Mike kind of reminds me of the other Mike with the tank. Wealth of knowledge!
Woot!! Another tour, too tour with you!!😊 thanks mate!!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Late to the party.
This is going to be good.
Love the shop. Mine is a 30×50 but not as nice as his set up, yet.
I got the Master series on my last trade up.
I really like this man, we both have around the same professional time line. ASE certified in 85. Im semi retired now, meaning I only work on what i choose to.
Wow, i started out in 78 with a Big Craftsman set and box set. I still remember buying it from Sears. I think it was a 1,000 pc plus set.
Sorry for all the rambling.
Thanks for the video brother.
Thanks for sharing! Cool that you share a lot of the same moments as Mike.
I think there needs to be a part two to his garage. This guy was definitely your best video. I was amazed, just watching him talk and I kept taking snapshots of tools. I’ve never seen but want.
I could have talked to him for another 10hours with everything he had in there!
Incredibly knowledgeable and the man has spent some money on tooling. And, everything looks well cared for. Amazing.
Couldn't agree more!
Ive seen this guy toolbox tour on his channel and it is my favorite❤❤
This one is the gold standard. Outstanding!
It heavily reminded me of your setup Mike! I bet you two could talk for hours if you ever bumped in to each other. Thanks for watching!!
Best tour yet! Amazing shop and so well organized and neat! I loved seeing so many familiar tools in his collection. Engine guy, fabricator, transmission builder, welder, machinist! My kind of guy!
It was definitely a clean space! And mikes a genius!
New sub here, I’ll be honest, all these toolbox tours are so cool to watch and really bring my tool addiction out lol keep up the good work! And very nice set up to the gentleman featured
I hope you stick around!
That gentleman has a wealth of knowledge and experience. So amazing.
Thanks for watching John!
Awesome shop Mike! Well done. Thanks for the tour.
Man I could just sit and listen to him all day. Reminds me of my grandfather. So much knowledge. Love your setup man!
It was a treat to film this one. I barely had to talk at all! He’s comfortable infront of a camera and incredibly smart. Made for such a great tour. Thanks for watching!
Years ago I ran into the 3 inch pound issue and asked factory about it and they told me it is technical term for "finger tight" but since then Ive found Cummins has preset torque t-handles in the 6 and 12inlbs for injecter wire nuts.
Very humble dude. Thank you Sir. Great tool review.
He has an excellent shop. Keep up the good work to all of you
I recently read a quote where a “know it all” stated “if you to make a tool you are using the wrong tool or don’t want to buy the right tool”. What arrogance and how stupid. How does he think new tools or new anything is created? When a person sees a need, creates a tool and creates a solution to a problem, proves they are way smarter than the genius that said that.
As impressive as the tool box was we needed a whole shop tour!
Thank you. I have a full shop tour on my channel. Please feel free to check it out. Thanks for the kind words.
Epic tool box tour..full of knowledge!
Thank you Friend!
✌🕶🔧
Thanks for watching!
Soooo awesome to see Mike’s box on this channel. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Love this video what a great shop and tool collection plus this gentleman seems like a genuine good guy thanks for another great video. Take care and have a great Memorial Day
23:20... I use popsicle sticks and Q-tips now..but I feel ya. 😅
Popsicle sticks!! Good one!
I've been a banker for 30 years and recently got into wrenching, nothing advanced and I'll be honest, its a bit addicting. However, I know how impulsive I am and if I had been a mechanic, I'd be broke because I'd be too tempted to buy every tool off the tool trucks. My father in law recently died and had a ton of tools which we had a professional appraise. Unfortunately, the $ return on those tools is a fraction of what it cost him.
Selling them individually would give you the best return.
This is a memorable video very knowledgeable and informative humble guy and he has a wonderful relationship with his son he also reminds me of Mike papas the tank guy one of the best home garages you ever videoed at I’m sure there is more we didn’t see thanks again.
Love the channel...it's a great time a new video comes out
More to come!
Remember seeing Mike do a shop tour a while back, super glad you got to visit and show more of his unbelievable setup. Keep up the great work man
It was amazing. Glad you liked this one! I’ll have to go back and watch his own video. I refrained from watching it to make my first time seeing his setup more genuine.
With a milling machine and decent size lathe many tools can be made and modified..
i love hes airtool heavy when he started i was born in 1988 being a german automotive refinisher graduated my trade in 2009 =)
Wow I watched this twice reminded several times unreal beautiful shop that's a mechanic please go back there's more boxes more shop thank you 👍😎👍
He had so much more than what I filmed. I could probably go back and film for another 4 hours on top of what was in this video. He has so much cool stuff. I’m so grateful he had me out.
That’s passion!! Getting excited to get off work to run home and work I. Your own shop. Respect!!
What a legend, best toolbox tour ive ever seen! so much cool specific tools and a heap of knowledge to back them
His setup was amazing! Thanks for watching Jarrod!
God...I wish I had a fraction of this guy's knowledge! He is incredible!
Right?!
Beyond impressive collection. I think this guy has more money on torque wrenches than I have in totality.
Man…what a tool box!!! Good guy and you can tell he loves his tools…he has a great amount of knowledge and seems to work on everything….great video and the time length of the video doesn’t matter…
He seriously works on such a wide variety of things. If you’re ever curious, you can see his projects on garage journal - zmotorsports.
The show is always beyond impressive the people you find and the amount of research finding tools and prices much appreciated.. you have had many many awesome people on this must be my favorite he knew special info on every tool where it was used over the past 30-40 years unbelievable episode great job to the lot of you
Wow, thank you!
I would imagine that this guy would agree with me.. If I could have the knowledge I gained over the last 45 years, I could have been so much better at maintenance of my business. or let's fill in the blank.. .... if we know now, for people in their 60's, that we could have know in our 20's we could have been so much better at what we do.
This mechanic has a lifetime of tools, but more importantly a life time of autiomotive, motorcycle, ATV, etc knowledge now than when he began his career.
this is a great video.
Ah yes - to be able to go back in time with the knowledge we have today.. but that’s the beauty of life. Live and learn 🙂 Thanks for watching!
The door jam button holder is the coolest thing Ive ever seen,, that would be so nice to find
I could listen to this guy and his knowledge and experience for hours! Great episode as usual!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This Is THE Best Video Out There Thank You SIR Love It
Amazing setup Mike!
Great video as always. This guy has been there and done that. 👍
Legend!
the part about the snap on ratchet conversion was so valuable thank you
Great video !!! This gentleman and I are probably the same age. His experience spans the same era as mine....except he is still keeping up with the newer stuff. I saw a lot of things in his tool box, that are the same as mine....or close to it. You should do a video on his shop.... In fact, you should start a new channel or add a second segment to your existing channel, called "Shop Tours".
I’ll keep that in mind! Thanks for watching Steven!
Thank you Mike your shop is amazing...This video is the best keep up the good work...
Full shop tour on his channel!
Iv watch every video this guy has made about his shop! It’s amazing
Very cool!
This guy is amazing . All that knowledge.
I love they way he explains how the tools are used. Lots to learn.
Yeah many years of experience there.
An amazing collection of tool inside the best workspace I have ever seen and so clean and tidy .. And one nice guy in charge..
Couldn't agree more!
Love the video. What a humble man.
Couldn't agree more!
WOW!!!! Just WOW!!!! so flipping cool!!!!
I agree!
As a hot rodder myself, this has been my most reliable and favorite episode! Awesome setup
I’m glad you liked this one!!
Nice Good job love you From Dino Mares Fontana CA
amazing tools from eras gone by.
Friggin’ amazing. Thx for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it!
Dudes got some knowledge, and years of experience, nice CLEAN shop, A+
The experience is one thing the tools can’t give you. He’s a genius!
What a legacy! Keep finding these great people and asking them for a little time to share with you.
Yeah, it’s amazing being able to talk with such great people. I often forget I’m filming since I just want to BS and chat. I’m glad I get to share these with everyone.
garage heaven , so cool .
Keep them coming! I watch everyone
I’m glad!
Well experienced true teacher
Best tour yet!!
I would love to see a full shop tour of this gentleman’s collection!
Thank you. I have a full shop tour over on my channel.
@@zmotorsports62
Enjoyed seeing all the old school stuff! I will definitely check out the shop tour on your channel.
What a great collection of tools and video
Glad you enjoyed it Brandon!
Taking the batteries out of the torque wrench. That’s damn smart. Only a guy with a torque wrench for zip ties would be that smart haha.
Every tool had a back story, so you know they have been well used.
Exactly!
Awesome video and years of knowledge
Glad you enjoyed it!
The wealth of knowledge.he has no school can teach it all
