      A good combo. I won't be getting rid of the Bird. Don't think that one will ever go. Staying in the family.

    Takes me back - haven't been to the gorge since approx. 1982. Great cream teas!
    Love the Thunderbird and your whole philosophy around biking (and life in general).
    Keep up the good work!

      Thanks guys. Been following your trip down to Fethiye, making me want to get an 883 even more! I'll be firing some questions over at some point regarding the ride and how the sportster was. Hope you're enjoying your time away. Take care.

    Mid-size cruisers are nice because the weight is usually slammed so low to the ground that the bikes feel lighter than they are. For example, an Indian Scout felt lighter than my Enfield 650. I’s recommend checking out as many cruisers as you can-you may find you really like them!

    • @thebristolthunderbird
      @thebristolthunderbird  2 місяці тому +1

      Thanks mate. Yea, I like the idea of the weight low down. I've never tried an Indian, they look pretty awesome. Maybe that will be something I try after I've finally scratched the Harley itch!

    I find riding through the Gorge pretty sketchy! Narrow roads enclosed by rock faces, rocks & goats in the road too 🙈

    In 1987 I flew to the UK to visit my Grandma in Burnham on Sea and my Aunt and Uncle in Bristol. After a week in B. On Sea, my Uncle picked me up in his car to bring me back to Bristol. On the way we stopped in Cheddar Gorge. It was March and most shops were closed. He said I would enjoy looking around and he had to get a haircut and left me there. I hoped he came back for me. I had seen pictures of me there in 1954, age 2, when my parents and I visited my Grandparents. So it looked somewhat familiar. I wandered around for about an hour and my Uncle pulled up and we went to Bristol, where my Aunt had dinner for us. I’ve been back to Bristol a few times since 1987, but I need to return to Cheddar Gorge to get a better look. I’m not sure that my Uncle actually got a haircut. I thought it must be a British thing. Leave your American relative in a strange place while you get a haircut. I have a relative or two that I could try that on. BTW: I couldn’t find any shop open with real Cheddar Cheese, that day. Keep the shiny side up.😎👍

    • @thebristolthunderbird
      @thebristolthunderbird  2 місяці тому +1

      I wonder what he was doing if not getting a haircut? Anyway, a new trip to cheddar might be an idea, some cheese tasting maybe? Take some of the 'real deal' back with you to the US.

    I got a triumph thunderbird commander 1700. That is a very heavy bike it can feel a bit too heave at slow speeds going around bends but gets lighter the faster you go. Great vids also mate.

    Great video, I share your thoughts on the Sportster…. still on my radar too…. the 883 is a good looking bike, I personally think the later ones from up to 2016 will fit me better though…. seems those have less issues…. 😊

      Something about that bike isn't there. It's got that iconic look and status. No one ever raves about how comfy it is to ride or about it's performance etc, but it's been one of the most popular bikes ever made. Looks like it's something we both need in our lives! Haha.

    After riding the Tiger 800 I don’t think my TBird is top heavy anymore. You’ve got to buy cheddar cheese when visiting Cheddar even if it is overpriced. The blue cheddar is my favourite.

    • @thebristolthunderbird
      @thebristolthunderbird  2 місяці тому

      Never tried a Tiger, thought they might be a bit lighter for some reason. Should have got some of that cave aged cheddar... I'll go back.

      @@thebristolthunderbird I ride down the gorge every year and bring back some cheddar. I know I could buy it cheaper in the supermarket but that’s not the point. It’s a club run but the real reason is for the cheese.

    Cheddar and Emmental (Switzerland) are 2 of the most exploiteed Cheese brands in the world. I've tried both, in different countries, and have not really found one worthy of the name. I find that a pity, as most of these "copies" taste way off the originals. It's also a pity that both Companies never found a way to protect their brand names and recipes.
    As I was still working a job that demanded a lot from me, I always made sure that I had the Saturday for me (if I needed it) eg, for my mental health, bikes, mates and footy; and the Sunday for the family. If you're not able to do that, you're probably in the wrong job, earning the wrong money!
    It would be nice to see you try to develop The Bristol Thunderbird channel more, as you're making a good and interesting job of it so far. You are very natural and credible in front of the camera with your easy to listen to voice, and you find good choices of music to back up your excellent filming abilities.
    Thanks for all so far, cheers to the BT channel !!

    Wanted to say great video and Cheddar Gorge is awesome.
    I aleays thought you have to make big trip videos for content but your video here is a great example that, that isnt the xase and a day out can be engaging when done right.
    Shame about the gopro - did a car clip it after?

    • @thebristolthunderbird
      @thebristolthunderbird  2 місяці тому +1

      Thanks mate. I do love the big trips but unfortunately they can't be done so often. I do have a couple in the planning process, and I can't wait. For now though there will be more day trips and some short overnighters here and there. Appreciate the comment mate, gives me confidence to carry on with some content like this too. Sadly I simply dropped the GoPro when putting onto a tripod! I must have dropped it 1000 times before - this time it fell perfectly onto a gravelled road and smashed it. It was playing up quite a bit anyway, so this is my excuse to get the DJI action 4! Yes!!!

    • @mamotorcycle
      @mamotorcycle 2 місяці тому +1

      @@thebristolthunderbird yes mate definitely more content like this.
      Inspiring, honestly.
      I've just come back from D-Day sites and as you say, although big trips are a lot of fun, there is a lot to be had for what is on our door steps.
      It's also harder, I think, to create good content with smaller day trips/outings and you've done that here so congratulations.
      New sub.
      I've heard good things about the DJI. Will have to keep posted with how it does.

      @@mamotorcycle I will do mate. Always found the GoPro's to be buggy and temperamental, lots of battery pulls to get reset the thing. I've already got the DJO Osmo Pocket 3 with the mic. Apparently the mic works with the Action 4. Thanks for the encouragement mate and the new sub! Appreciated.

    I know what you mean about cruisers, I'm finding myself looking at them more and more, is it a middle aged thing maybe?
    But I can't bring myself to go to Harley, they're just too crude, too lumpy. I know for some that's part of the appeal, but they're not for me.
    What I do find myself looking more and more at is the Triumph Speedmaster, now that's a bike I could ride all day. It's too new for you, with its EFI but what about the Triumph Bonneville America? Cruiser styling with Triumph finesse. I can see you on one.
    Oh and cheese and motorcycles, I like it, I feel it could be a thing, a bike tour of famous cheeses. Britain alone has over 700 named cheeses according to Wikipedia, which could give you plenty of short trips.

    • @thebristolthunderbird
      @thebristolthunderbird  2 місяці тому

      I know what you mean about the Harley. I am hot and cold with them. It's just been one of those life long itches that might need a scratch. Perhaps I should hire one for a day and see how it feels.
