“You have betrayed us ALL.”: Lukaku is burning bridges and losing everyone's trust

  • Romelu Lukaku’s search for his next club just got even more difficult. Having burned bridges with the Blues after his infamous Sky Italia interview, and then doing everything he can to leave the club after becoming their record transfer signing, Romelu Lukaku has now angered Inter Milan and their supporters. In essence, he has burned a bridge with the one club that truly had his back and would defend him publicly, doing all that they could to make a transfer happen despite their finances being in a precarious situation.
    Lukaku’s move to Inter was burned to the ground thanks to he and his agent/lawyer Sebastien Ledure having held negotiations with Juventus for personal terms, should the opportunity to move there arise. In doing so, he has angered the Inter Ultras (Curva Nord), and the fanbase at large. Right now, Lukaku isn’t wanted by Chelsea, nor by Inter, and he has Juventus supporters protesting his signing. What’s next?

      I don't think he's intentionally shameless, I think he's got terrible judgement. He seems constantly stuck between doing what'll make him happy & doing what he thinks would be good for his career, the problem in his case is he's not got the mental resilience to handle being even vaguely unhappy so his career shouldn't factor into his thinking at all.
      Being mentally fragile isn't bad, it's not exactly something you can control (quickly at least), what's bad is I don't think he's ever owned & just followed his heart unconditionally.

    It is not true that Inter sold Lukaku in 2021 due to financial problems. We had already sold Hakimi for that very same reason. We were okay. Then he came saying “I want to go to Chelsea, they’ll give me 12 millions per season, here 115 millions euros for you”. That’s not a sum you can say no to, not in Italy. We concluded that transfer window with +160M, we didn’t need that money. He also said that if we had offered him a new deal, he would have stayed. Basically confirming that it was all about the money. That’s because it was a betrayal. Hakimi left because we needed that money from Psg, we still love him, no betrayal by him.

    @tobaepebinuade5830 10 місяців тому +123

    His first stint at Inter Milan, Romelu Lukaku was in the best form of his career, the guy couldn't stop scoring goals and he was unstoppable and was critical to Inter Milan winning Serie A in 2021 and he was the MVP in the league that season following his impressive goalscoring form and top class performances throughout the season forming a formidable partnership with Lautaro Martinez in attack, at the time he was in his absolute peak. Inter Milan were in a bit of a difficult situation financially as it led to Antonio Conte departing the club and the player Chelsea were linked with a return for him and he had unfinished business there and decided to go back to Chelsea for around 98 million and big things were expected of him there as he was gonna take their team that just won the champions league to a whole new level. His return to Chelsea quickly became a nightmare as he failed to produce his best form, failed to get on with Thomas Tuchel, lost his place and he did a controversial interview explaining his situation at Chelsea, how he wasn't happy at the club and the system which they played and even said that he was happier at Inter Milan and his heart was still there. The next game, that interview caused him to be left out of the squad and the message that Thomas Tuchel was sending to Romelu Lukaku is "no player is bigger than the club". He was badly out of form and there was a game in which he only touched the ball 7 times in 90 minutes, so not only did he struggle to score goals and miss so many chances, he didn't make an impact on the pitch.
    Last season, he got his wish in returning to Inter Milan on loan and the hope for him was to get back to his best. Even there he missed part of the season with injury and he wasn't playing particularly well even when fit and a 37 year old Edin Dzeko was starting over him for majority of the season. Towards the end of the season, Romelu Lukaku may have found some form, but overall his loan spell back at Inter Milan wasn't great and in the champions league, their run to the final he didn't start a single game and he was benched in the champions league final as well. When healthy, he wasn't scoring goals, still inconsistent and not always producing on the field, even the Inter president said that he was overweight which is a constant issue that'll affect a players' fitness and performance it shouldn't be surprised that he faced some time on the sidelines and whenever he played he was far from top form and he was supposed to be happy back at Inter Milan.
    He's a Chelsea player again, he has no interest in playing for them next season, and we all thought that he would return to Inter Milan permanently but apparently he was flirting with a move to Juventus behind the scenes and they're not signing him this summer, and if a move there doesn't materialize then his only other choice in finding a new club is to join the Saudi Pro League and that could still happen for him. He still wants to play in a top 5 league in Europe, he is so so finished right now, and I just don't see the desire and confidence for him to really replicate his best form based on what we've seen from Romelu Lukaku over the last 18 months and if he doesn't go to Juventus he needs to go to Saudi as he won't get another lucrative contract from a top club in Europe ever again his best days are well and truly behind him and he knows that as well.

  • @gavunku
    @gavunku 10 місяців тому +60

    I want to give my 2 cents as an inter fan.
    I am disappointed, yes, but tbf i almost feel sorry for the guy.
    Part of the reason he is doing so well in italy is because the media has never put him under the same type of pressure that he got in the top teams of the PL.
    After the first few months, when conte was shielding him from critics, he had such great numbers in the first 2 seasons that both inter fans and the media were cuddling him even after the last season and poor finals performances.
    We italians had to learn to manage our expectations in the last decade after all.
    Well if he goes to juve next year he'll discover the darker side of italian football culture, and tbh i dont think he has the mental fortitude to do well in that case, but who knows i might be wrong.
    I am not really angry because to me it feels more like a panic move when it was time to decide the rest of his carreer rather than a cash grab but i dont really know the ins and out.

    Why Inter Milan have decided not to bring back Romelu Lukaku makes a lot of sense right now because behind the scenes he was interested in joining Juventus and they and the fans see this as betrayal and now they don't want to sign him permanently. When he did that interview with Sky Italia in 2021 when he was at Chelsea, he said he had a lot of heart for Inter Milan and he really was desperate for a return and maybe something happened there, like being unhappy in not starting the champions league final that could play a factor into this whole messed up situation but then to be interested in going to a direct rival in Juventus, it's a big soap opera. After Chelsea paid the ridiculous amount of money to resign him, he's not part of their plans next season and now Inter Milan don't want to sign him on a permanent basis, the only way Juventus can sign Romelu Lukaku is if both Chelsea and Juve agree a swap deal between him and Dusan Vlahovic, but I don't think that's gonna happen and the only suitable option for him is a move to Saudi Arabia and now he's finding it very difficult to find a new club and I saw this coming months ago, he's at a crossroads in his football career when at 30, he should still be in his peak, so what led to all of this.

As an Inter fan, I have no applaud Inter management for telling him they are done with him after the effort they put in to come to an agreement to bring him back. The Curva Nord’s statement nailed the sentiments of the Interisti. As for the player, I just shake my head. He was taught what was necessary to be a truly outstanding player and turned his back on those teachings. He got all the money one could reasonably ask for and that was not enough. He was gifted everything and more and turned his back on it. I truly hope he finds happiness but it’s clear he is broken in some way and can’t see the havoc he causes where ever he goes.

    As an Inter fan i can recall this saga from its beginnings. Conte wanted Lukaku and at the same time Juve did too in the end cause Dybala wouldn't go to United, Inter got their man. Then fast forward 2 years and Inter's in it annual summer sales bind and think about seel someone and Lautaro was actually considered first but sufficient offers didn't arrive then that massive Chealsea iffer came and Lukaku left it was somewhat painful but understood cause of finances, then the crazy interview and then the return on loan which started off good but quickly turn to him being out injured the in the late part of the season he starts firing on all cylinders and it looks like hey Inter's going to make an effort to resign him on a permanent deal. But here is where i see there is still a small chance of redemption, if you follow most of the news articles Lukaku himself makes no direct comments on the negotiations he has his reps doing the work but at the same time his lawyer (trying to make a bigger commission) shops him around so when the deal with Chelsea is finally agreed on advice from his lawyer they go quiet that en the whole deal collapses. IMO if Lukaku fires his lawyer and makes a statement claiming he was never involved with those negotiations the move could possibly still happen but as he himself still continues to not speak yes the fans will ultimately believe he wanted to do all if it and he will be hated. People already mentioned it but just to be sure: Inter didn't want to sell Lukaku in 2021, the plan for sure was Hakimi, Brozovic and Skriniar were considered (and they eventually left). Conte wasn't happy with the summer plans and the lack of investment and he forced his departure and when Conte left Lukaku wasn't conformtable and took Chelsea's offer. That offer improved Inter situation which helped to retain Skriniar (to lost him for free later on which was stupid) and Brozovic.
    He decided to go. Nobody forced him.

    The worst part is when Inter met Juve this season in the Coppa Italia semifinals. I am sure that you all remember Juve fans chanting racists comments to Lukaku just a few months ago and Cuadrado and him receiving red cards after the fight that followed immediately after Lukaku celebrated against the Juve fans.
    After all of that Romelu, how can you go play for those same fans? Racism is something that we are trying to fight and stop at all costs in Italy and you just pretend like you don’t care. It’s the recipe for disaster if this move happens

    There's treating your current club as a job and there's kissing every single badge you play under and playing on the fans' emotions in every single interview. There's considering a move to another club and there're secret negotiations behind your club's back. Of course, no one will ever beat Mario Götze in 2013 (better known as the only player who lost his team a Champions League final without playing a single minute), but I think Lukaku comes pretty close in terms of terrible PR. But it didn't have to end this way. Zlatan for example also played for multiple clubs throughout his career, but he's loved and fondly remembered in every single one (even Barca fans are upset because of how his time there turned out). The difference being that on top of being just a lovable and funny character Ibra brought something good with him every time he changed clubs, was an outstanding player throughout his career and we'll probably never forget his insane plays. I've never seen him kissing any badge or expressing special feelings for any club other than AC Milan. Of course we'll never know how much of it was just PR, but the point stands, he rejoined Milan in time of need, promised to bring back the Scudetto and delivered, both on and off the pitch. That's why Milan fans love him. He also spent some of the most successful seasons of his playing for Inter, but I'm yet to find a single milanista who has a problem with that. And for all this talking about Ibra's "difficult character" the most drama he's ever caused was that one time when rumour started spreading about him having a romance with Pique. It's clear that Lukaku would like to be like Zlatan, but other than being an obviously inferior player he also lacks the understanding of the game, or likeable personality for that matter.

    The purchase of Lukaku from United (almost 80 ml.) could have been sustainable for Inter if there hadn't been the Covid period; but it's fine.
    Before Covid the Club was growing and got a coach, Conte, with a very heavy salary (12ml more or less), Barella (around 40, and I will be forever grateful to the Club for that ^^), others... but above all Lukaku at almost 80. At Inter, paired with Lautaro, he did remarkable things. Then, after two years, he wanted to leave, leaving us all astonished; but a little could have been "understandable" - a little... - because Conte was gone, we had sold Hakimi -.- Pintus was no longer there (a great athletic trainer). However, they don't play at Chelsea like they do at Inter, and there they don't have two strikers playing close together, and in any case he didn't have time to develop an understanding like he had with Lautaro. He wanted to return to Inter, and we were happy for that (and defended him against the English fans who described him as he turned out to be; we should apologize to them, they were right); the Club took him on a onerous loan which, even if it didn't cover Chelsea's expenses, was nonetheless very heavy for the Club's financial situation.
    Lukaku started the season badly, very badly, he was half injured, he went to the World Cup anyway, but we later discovered that the injury was very serious; he returned to important levels at the end of the season and helped Inter in the champions and above all in the last ten (more or less) games of Serie A, when Inter, the Inter players, decided to remedy the "character" difficulties in the previous periods, playing really well and practically always winning (apart from the match lost in Naples, where the reserves mostly played, only in the last two, against Torino in Turin - albeit won - and in the champions final, Inter, for different reasons, it wasn't at better ...sure against City it was tactically, but not in other aspects...).
    And we are at now.
    Inter wanted to buy Lukaku, despite the fact that 40 ml with a very heavy "salary" for a thirty-year-old was a questionable expense, but considering his at times sensational understanding with Lautaro (who we have only seen on a few occasions this year due to Lukaku's injuries and because when he returned to be in shape, Inzaghi, who had had to squeeze Dzeko, thought it right to continue relying on the latter, since it was Dzeko who had brought us there ...and yes, I too would have preferred to see Lukaku starting in the final. for the depth he gives to the team, which Dzeko cannot give, but Inzaghi has, shall we say, rewarded Dzeko for what he had done throughout the season; you cannot tell a player who has given you so much that he will not play the match more important than an entire career, because now there is Lukaku) considering the magnificent understanding with Lautaro and his leadership in the locker room (...), Inter wanted him, despite the weight of the whole operation, and he was negotiating with Juventus!!? With the team against which we defended him from the vulgar controversy for his celebration against racism!? In which the most representative players had preferred to defend their most vulgar fans!? On that occasion Roc Nation defended him, rightly, with all his might; how will he justify the transfer to Juventus?!
    Lukaku with this absurd behavior has lost everything (I loved him too much not to despise him deeply now).
    At Juventus, then, the reasons that justified Inter's willingness to take him back are not there. Allegri makes his teams play badly, and in any case could make him play as a sole striker, thus finding himself the Lukaku of United and Chelsea; and even if he also makes him play with another nearby striker, he will have to build an understanding; moreover, when he returned to form we understood that what he can give you now is the ability to defend the ball to raise the team, and goals if you have many chances (he misses many, and Inter have many chances to score in one match, Allegri's Juventus weren't), but he are no longer able to give defenders yards in the open field like he did three years ago.
    I think he has "interested" people around, who don't choose for his good, and that he's just a narcissistic big child (but we already knew that).
    What matters is that such a person stays away from us (after all, he goes to the team with the most convictions for his fraudulent behavior in the world; he deserves it).

      @@lobachevscki Ah yes the youtube highlights watcher. He cost Inter in UCL in both seasons. First season he was an absolute joker vs Barca b team when Inter only needed a point to qualify but Lakaka had other ideas. Second season he was completely toothless in both legs vs Shaktar which in the end cost Inter the elimination for all european cups.

      @@mesicek7 I have been watching Inter and Serie A since 1989 (that is more than a decade before UA-cam and highlights were a thing) so I'm pretty sure I know more about Inter and Calcio than you will ever know, so hold your horses if you want to have a civil conversation. I do accept that my ratio of games watched is lower now than at the beginning of this century (when I watched almost all Serie A) but I watched almost every Inter's game this season and the majority of the previous seasons as well.
      What you are saying is that Lukaku underperforms (and has a massive amount of bad luck) in big games, and with that assessment I have to agree, but against Shaktar I would blame Conte, and those things aren't mutually exclusive. Conte has a very bad record in European competitions specially in the UCL so missing that part is at the very least disingenuous. Inzaghi showed in his 2 seasons so far he could do better with less, including without Lukaku, so if you want to blame someone blame Conte first and then we can talk about Lukaku.
      Lukaku was massively important in the Scudetto season which for all intents and purposes was the main goal and why he was requested by Conte himself. That season was massive for him and for the tifosi that was enough (it was enough for Curva Nord to forgive his first departure).
      In his stint with Inzaghi he got injured but the improvement of the team in the third part of the season was in line with his comeback. Against Milan was pivotal to keep Milan defense busy and against City (and Sevilla for that matter) he technically did what he was intended to but, as I said in the first paragraph, he underperforms (or loses the right touch) in big games and i cant blame him for being unlucky.
      So i wouldnt call his career at Inter exceptional but in general he delivered, Conte, Inzaghi and the board wanted him based on that assessment but he decide to kill his chances. Any other judgement is from people that only watches Highlights, like apparently is the case for you because you clearly didnt see the games if im honest, what you said is pretty ignorant.

      @@lobachevscki It's got nothing to do with bad luck the guy is technically limited. He lucked out majorly playing in this era where there's far more forgiveness than there ever was. If the team isn't playing for him he's completely useless because he can't do anything by himself he needs that perfect pass to finish and even then there's a big question mark if he does.

    • @lobachevscki
      @lobachevscki 10 місяців тому

      @@mesicek7 There are two different things there: Lukaku's touch is pretty shaky specially when it comes to big occasions (he can deliver but again, pretty inconsistent) and, on top of that, he has a massive cloud of bad luck over him: that autogoal against Sevilla or that blocked header of Dimarco against City, but even in that game you are mentioning against Shaktar he also accidentally blocked a Sánchez later header that was a goal. That's just bad luck, I cant blame him for that, it would be unfair, I cant even blame his positioning, he is supposed to be there, in the area.
      He definitely is not helping himself with his touch but in a counter attacking scheme the touch itself is not that pivotal but the strength and speed he definitely has (thats why he makes so much sense for Allegri's Juventus). It worked really well in Inter specially with Conte but even Inzaghi adapted his idea to Lukaku's skills (see CBS post interview after the second leg of the UCL Semi final).
      Inter is lacking someone more clinical, but that judgement would apply even for Lautaro and Dzeko (before he left of course) as well.
      So, again, I agree with the idea of him not delivering in the big occasions and those occasions will be the things he will be remembered for, I cant argue with that, but his time in Inter is not a failure by any means.

    Most players are self serving but players like Lukaku take it even further as he will play on the fan's emotions like kissing the badge and giving endless interviews on how much he loves the club. What's even worse is he previously gave a interview saying he would never sign for Juventus lol. If he does sign to Juventus then he will kiss the badge and act like he always wanted to play for Juventus.

    How about not expecting any sort of emotional loyalty from a player who happens to play for your club and see their "relationship" with fans as what it is - a PR ? I mean these guys go wherever they get paid the most (for the most part) Just like you and I do when choosing a job, chances are: they care very little for a club, certainly not to an extent of what fans do and they are not your friends and very likely would not like to be. If anyone gets hurt by being dissapointed in a completely fabricated parasocial relationship, in my book, it's up to them.

    There can’t be many players who have been as successful as he has who’s hated by his own fans wherever he’s played. You don’t sign for club then in an interview tell everyone your dream is to play for another. Won’t help ingratiate you with the fanbase.
