10 originals made solely for whatever medium they were produced for, all within a 6 year period. Cant say how many times they’ve been featured in movies & tv shows though. That number is near infinite.
It makes me sad to see one of if not my favorite bands produce such a shitty album , I thought that after evolve that dan and everyone else in the band would understand that they need some improvement ( dont get me wrong this album is better then evolve) but it still feels very bad and not worth my time tbh 😞😞
Weren’t Linkin Park and The Police just as notorious though? Well Police with just one song that they dislike themselves but Every Breath You Take is still everywhere
As someone whose favorite band is Imagine Dragons, I really like the whole album. Dan Reynolds openly said that the band is opening up to new genre's. I'm not the type of person who only listens to one genre of music, so I just really liked everything. I felt that West Coast had a unique vibe to it. Maybe the fact that I've listened to all of there songs several times is effecting my decision, cause I've grown to love there music, but I just wouldn't have given it that low of a rating. Cause that's pretty low. However, I respect your decision.
Wow I thought this album was pretty good. I personally think this band is actually Underrated (yes I know they’re modern but my god they do not deserve all the hate they get. People act like they killed someone sometimes). Yes, they don’t do anything to push the boundaries per se but that’s okay since I completely pushed away the rock label on them. For me, it’s just an album full of either bangers or interesting ballads and I just like Dan’s voice personally. I guess it’s just me though. I can appreciate profound music and also simple music whenever I need a breather. Granted, I needed this after the headfck of Simulation Theory. Also, I appreciate this review. I am not bashing you but rather questioning the people who just love overexaggerating the hate for this band because they are a famous pop “rock” band.
Cynical Scorpio yeah, that’s actually exactly what I meant to convey. Like I know people don’t like their music but it doesn’t make them look any more superior for spraying it every chance they get. Criticism (which Jon did in this video) is different from just blatantly being a rude and hateful person.
The guy in the vid exaggerated and twisted many facts to drive his point. for example, he said they continue to make songs for other promo type things in the "Majority" of Origins. Natural and Zero = 2/16 songs for commercial use and I'm pretty sure that ain't a majority. Although I can genuinely see him not knowing simple math, I find it more likely that he is just biased towards a hateful viewpoint.
imagine dragons is the first band i fell in love with. 11 year old me heard "night visions" for the first time and just couldn't listen to anything else for months. it was fresh, the stomp-clap mix into indie-rock with pop and alternative influences was so unique and powerful. there was nothing like it out there. then came "smoke + mirrors" which i believe to be their greatest album to this day. completely different from "night visions" and receiving strange hate because it was not as commercially successful, this was one-of-a-kind, industrial alternative music that stayed virtually completely off the charts because it was just that wild and incredible. i cannot praise "smoke + mirrors" enough - for sound and personal sentiment, it's my favourite album ever. then we get to "evolve" which was a step down, but i could forgive it for many catchy moments and clever pop infusion. this, though... this hurts. i know they can do better. i'm racking my brain trying to figure out why they gave up on continuing to wow us with their perfect blend of electronics, guitar, synth, and power percussion. this is bland. it has incredible moments, and i really recommend you check out the three deluxe tracks, they're better than the majority of this album. i agree with your review but was surprised you didn't like "machine"; i actually really appreciate its call-back to "smoke + mirrors", but agree to disagree :) idk i'm pretty bummed, definitely will listen to it way more and i'm sure parts of it will grow on me, but i just hate that the instrumentals aren't matching lyrics that are maybe not as strong as they used to be, but are still good and filled with genuine emotion. they told the fans that if you liked "smoke + mirrors" you would like "origins" and i just feel like i've been lied to. they aren't doing themselves justice in the eyes of their true fans, which i find really sad. oh well.
Yes, I have the same story, the age and all the same, one time, they mentioned that the smoke+mirrors album was inspired in their rock origins back in Vegas, and it was such a unique album
Totally agree with most of what you said. Just wanna mention that I like how they decided to make origins sound more alternative and experimental than evolve (I actually like the general sound of the album). The problem is that it feels incomplete, some tracks just feel superfluous and the lyrics are way worse than what they used to write (not that evolve had good lyrics in general but songs like Dancing in the dark or mouth of the river saved it). And btw who had the idea to make the best tracks of the album deluxe edition only and instead take songs like only or digital?
I was hoping you’d like Machine, it’s my personal favorite. Reminded me of great songs from S+M like Friction and Hopeless Opus. Different strokes I guess. I personally think this album is heaps better than Evolve. It’s not exactly rock but its a decent pop album. I do agree that some songs are begging for better production
Elebrony I actually really hated Digital. Probably my least favorite from the band but that’s okay. It’s a bit too out of left field. The rest of the songs were great to mediocre for me. Stuck was actually like top 3 for me though
I'm OK with Machine, it's kind of like if Yesterday was listenable, but Digital is easily the worse Imagine Dragons song. Kind of reminds me of that Chris Brown song Trumpet Lights but even worse
Lkjhgf Studios I couldn’t agree more with Digital. It feels like a Radiohead song gone wrong, but I can somewhat appreciate them pushing boundaries. I’ll just give it a “you tried” ribbon and move on. Oh, and the lyrics on it down right suck.
I guess he didn't hear that. Same way a lot of people think imagine dragons is changing with evolve/origins. Those people think of pre evolve ID as only Radioactive and It's Time and don't pay attention to the other songs that stretch the boundaries of pop/rock. Those people acting surprised aren't really fans of ID, just fans of their popular hits. I admit Origins is a change but real fans know (as dan has said) they are gonna make music from the heart that speaks to them.
As much as everyone is angry about their classification as a rock band, you can’t say it’s their fault. They always identified as a mixed genre band, and the community was the one to really title them as rock. Some of the songs do have rock elements incorporated in them, but it’s not enough to say they are. And to say they have stopped being a rock band is wrong, because they weren’t from the very beginning. I do agree that they go for to many genres in one album, though. (One ablum, one style)
Funny thing is this has actually had pretty good reviews from critics so far and they’ve never liked Imagine Dragons. Hey if it’s better than Evolve it should be pretty good for me
Michigan29 agreed. Those albums are almost from a different band. The vibes on S+M are amazing. And all for you represented a height in many ways that Imagine Dragons never reached in any other instance.
I got into Imagine Dragons in 2011 and I loved all their EPs and their first two albums were such pure gold. Evolve was such a let down and so is Origins. Still love them, just wish they'd go back to their older sound a bit.
To me their last good album was Smoke+Mirrors. And the best one at that. I love pretty much every song in it. Since then I just dont feel their music. It sounds too "generic" if you can even say that.
Huge ID fan and I agree 100% on the review. Some good ideas just very inconsistent. I’m surprised you liked “Only”. It reminded me if Maroon 5 and The Chainsmokers made a song together. Better than Evolve but not close to Night Visions or S+M
Bruh, I just got an ID Alexa commercial. XD Honestly, as an ID fan I can completely agree. Definitely better than evolve, but the only songs I like on this album were Natural and Machine.
I feel like this album could have been better if they took more time writing and recording it. Instead, they decided that one year between albums was a good idea...
Imo, I get a Smoke and Mirrors vibe off of a couple songs like Boomerang and Machine (my top favorites). Cool Out, Bad Liar, and Stuck are some more favorites. Despite some blunders (Love and Real Life are the top for me) this album is a little better than Evolve. I don’t think anything will ever top Smoke and Mirrors for me though lol
I love Imagine Dragons, because this band is great at live performances. I found the Origins album to be pleasant, but not great. It's a 7/10 from me. Smoke + Mirrors is my favourite ID album, which I score a 10/10.
ARTV Hey man cmon that’s just low, thought you were above that kinda thing. You might not like the album, but if I know one thing about Imagine Dragons it’s that they mean a lot to some people.
What makes me sad is that when I listened to their first album "Night Visions" i saw potential in the band and I really did like that album. But then they took this weird turn where everything felt out of place and messy
Imagine Dragons use to be one of my favourite bands growing up (sigh) but the last two albums have just been so lacklustre and they are just becoming more unbearable with each new project! Fan from the 🇬🇧
Yeah, they were my first musical "love interest" and my first venture into alternative rock. I was hooked on Night Visions in 2013 and Smoke + Mirrors was a great follow-up, but I don't care for anything after that.
Ja'Crispies Exactly the same for me, it’s frustrating as they have shown they can write great music but I personally think those days are far behind us
Agreed. I had Night Visions on repeat when it came out, and I liked Smoke + Mirrors a lot. But I only ever listened to Evolve once because it was just... forgettable, honestly. I really do not like Natural at all, so I haven't bothered with Origins at all. It's really sad how far they've fallen.
I really missed their song like, dream, radioactive, demon, monster, now they just turn into basic pop. Probably i'm never see that side again. Night vision was their best work to date.
In my opinion, I liked Evolve. It was something new and I feel in love with it’s melodies and beats and I connected with the music and lyrics emotional. Obviously Night Visions is still the supreme album with Smokes and Mirrors being a close second. I don’t know what to feel about Origins. Some songs are overproduced and fall short while others like Bad Liar and West Coast are pretty decent. I might have to give it another listen but rn I’m not sure if I like it or not
I liked Evolve, it just felt like it could be massively improved. It was way too pop, even for Imagine Dragons standards, who are mostly a pop rock band. At least it's a good summer album and is admitingly pretty nostalgic to the summer of 2017.
Rafael Regalado not really I just hope they go back at least to the S+M era they are really good the Origins has a few bland tracks I’ll admit it. But the ones that are good are very good to me.
I listened to the album. I just don't know how much more cookie cutter and generic they can get. You don't think they can take it any farther...but they do..every time. They're just so bland. Their albums don't really seem inspired by much of anything besides what will be an anthem hit or movie soundtrack song.
Horseman Secretariat that’s the same with so many artists. They’re hyped up but in reality lots of high school seniors or even younger write better material. Imagine Dragons used to have much better material, but half of this album is just as bad as Justin Bieber.
This whole comments section is full of fake fans. People who have only heard ID's big hits and think they can judge them for changing their music too much xD. Please just listen to their full albums and even their EP, they never wanted to be stuck in one genre. They're popular in part because they don't let people tell them how to express themselves. The haters will always get mad whenever they "sell out" and the fake fans will always get triggered when they change their music style (turning on them for not giving them the hit single pop style song they feel they deserve)
@@iwannabetheunknown Wow you found my comment from 2 years ago haha. Looking back I still have a soft spot for imagine dragons, but now that I'm a more into the music making process I can see how origins isn't their best work.
@@machduel guess why I found this comment.. bcz I am a 🔥 breather😁.of course it isn't their best album but I love it not just bcz I luv the band but it is beautiful and cool in the way it is 😜 and i love the band's versatality..only talented musicians can be versatile I suppose😍.
Honestly, I feel like Origins sounded like a lot of generic pop songs. I really loved the song Real Life though, it sounded a lot like the songs from Night Visions.
@@elebrony I wasn't much of a fan of birds and I thought Burn Out was good, but I also think those songs kind of sound similar to most songs on the radio today. The thing I loved most about Imagine Dragons with Night Visions and Smoke + Mirrors is the fact that it was so different from what you would hear on the radio. The songs were very original. With Evolve and Origins it seems like they've started to blend in with everyone else. I still love the band though!
I see a lot of the comments being *they aren’t even rock anymore.* *at least it’s better than evolve.* *what happened to them* Well here’s my opinion, Imagine Dragons is my favorite band atm and I love their albums. Yes, some of their newer albums have been different and not rock-ish lately but they are just trying new things out they’re trying to explore the world of music in their own way by making/trying some new things. I personally think Evolve and Orgins are both great albums because if you really just sit down and listen to them there are some really great songs and they have some deep feelings Dan has been through a lot in his life and he’s expressing that with music so cant we all just be happy for them and what they are accomplishing? And yeah I know some criticism is good so they can get better but we don’t need to all go out and tear them down. They are great people and sometimes maybe just keep the opinion to yourself.
I actually really like that album because it's happier than Evolve or Smoke & Mirrors for example. In my opinion it's really cool how they have different types of sounds if i can say it that way. Imagine Dragons is a band that many people don't like because they only know the Chart Songs like Thunder or Natural but I really like the unpopular songs they have like for example Round & Round or Friction! :)
So he disliked simulation theory then I take it, not too surprising. There hasn't been much out of this year (from what I watched) that he enjoyed, except trench.
I can agree that this isnt remotely their best album, but it isnt bad, im just confused as to why every album they make needs to be ground breaking, if they make a generic album that doesnt make it bad, i think this is just a chill album not an album full of bangers
@@Itza-Me oh okay for some Reason I thought he was talking about this particular album and not the band in general. Hehe. I do like them just not so much this album
Damn, an Imagine Dragons and a Muse album on the same day, I've gotta listen to both. Are you gonna be reviewing the new Smashing Pumpkins album when it comes out?
You see, I respect opinions of all kinds and at the end of the day, music is a question of taste (in most cases.. I do admit there are objectively bad songs out there but these aren't any of those). Reviews are always gonna reflect those tastes. Your review in and of itself was fine. I think you're being a little too harsh, but not having watched many of your videos, this might just be the way you do things. Not mincing words. That's not a bad thing. I don't think the album is bad, personally, but I sure as hell also don't think it is the second coming of Jesus or smth. HOWEVER the top comments, some of which you gave a heart to, make me scoff and discredit a lot of your review for me. See, I don't know you or your channel well enough. I take everyone's opinions seriously by default. But if you agree with a bunch of people who complain simply because this isn't "Rock enough" and therefore is "generic" and "mainstream" (I hate how being mainstream is used as another way of saying bad these days), then I don't know what to tell you or any of these people except: You want something out of an act that you are obviously not going to get from them. There are different genres in music (and I wouldn't even know which one to categorize Imagine Dragons in), and just because something isn't the genre YOU prefer doesn't mean it's generic. That's.... A real simplistic way of thinking, especially if you consider we are talking about an art Form here. I don't like metal as a genre myself but I can acknowledge that just because I don't, that doesn't make the music bad. But whatever. And again, just to reiterate, I didn't love the album to heaven and back myself, I merely thought it was decent. So this is less me defending the album and more me being frustrated at the empty, superficial and obviously "holier than thou" (in lack of a better term) criticism in the comment section of this video. Cause it simply reads like a horde of rock fans pressed and salty that they didn't get what THEY wanted.
There needs to be more people like you on UA-cam. No one can have an opinion today without someone getting heated. The way you worded this was very respectable
I try to be positive about the music people make, but holy shit these guys are obnoxiously generic. It really doesn’t help that you can’t escape their music
Honestly, I agree their generic but I don’t think their obnoxiously generic. And you can escape their music if you don’t like the song just don’t listen to it.
I disagree this album is awesome i really liked .bullet in a gun , real life , digital, bad lair , cool out and the machine .. it's something different something new ❤️❤️
I think that this album is a call back to their EP days, and tracks on this album remind me of older tracks like I Need A Minute, and Curse. It gives a nostalgic feel, which I think is what they were trying to get at with the title "Origins". I think this is a nice bridge between EP ID and album ID.
*Dan reynolds* "we've been pretty genreless since the beginning, so whereas some bands get pigeonholed, we're able to be all over the gamut. I love big melodies and poppy songs. I enjoy writing pop music and i want to write big pop songs"
I honestly had no clue they were dropping a new album (shows how much I care, lol). Though I'm not surprised given that they have essentially solidified themselves as a pop act. They'll probably keep pumping out songs/albums on a frequent basis until the public gets tired of them or if the band decided to retire.
Yes. They have improved. Much more variety. For me, Machine, Digital or Natural are just very good songs soundwise. They need more time to experiment. I think we might see an objectively good album from them.
I haven’t watched yet I just wanted to say this album amazed me and brought me to tears. I feel like a changed person. This is leaps and bounds ahead of evolve (my least favorite album)
Hey. I didn't know your channel before this video. I liked the way you created a constructive argument over Origins with technical knowledge of music and, at the same time, respected the band history. I am a huge fan of Imagine Dragons and I went to all their shows here in Brazil, but I do have to agree with you partially. On the overall, they didn't do a good job and they let me down a little bit. Although Natural, Machine, Bad liar and Birds (my favourite one on this new album) are great songs. The impression I got is that they rushed it too much and didn't created enough tracks to release a good Album, but enough to please their audience and still get good scores from the reviews. Maybe if they worked on it another year or two, we would be praising them. I know they are great musicians and still have a lot to show us in the future. To finish my point of view, I think nothing they create will ever surpass Night Visions. Their first album is a masterpiece and it'll be really hard to top it. Also, the fact they are one of the most successful bands nowadays makes people be extra harsh on their reviews, but I think it's a good thing because it proves everyone expects great things from them. Sorry for the bible. Keep up the good work!
Really surprised you didn't like machine but also surprised you liked only so I guess it evens out. I liked Digital too though. Otherwise agree. It's a 3 out of 5 for me
I quite like this album and this band, they have some proper good bangers in every album (Evolve had that too don't hate) I think they're issue now is that they're not sure what they want to be, that's the main issue with the album, change is good, so them going for a more pop style I'm fine with. But they went for pop, EDM, Rock, Country etc. They need to find a specific genre or two that they're good at, like pop and rock, because then they'll only improve in time. I personally don't get why they get so much hate, you're entitled to your opinion and all, but why people hate them is beyond me, so if anybody can clarify that would be appreciated
As an album, it doesn't really feel like it flows that well, but as individual songs, they work very well! I really like Bad Liar, Natural, Real Life, even West Coast! I think they're catchy and well written. They, again, don't flow as well as other albums have, but still some very good tracks!
Well I disagree. I loved how different and experimental this album was compared to their others and I found that yes there is many different things going on, but it works.
Being a huge ass imagine dragons fan... like unhealthily addiction I love this album I kinda don’t like only But I love the SELLOOOOOUT in bullet in a gun The chorus in Digital And west coast as a full Real life has some on top of the world vibes
S+M is my favourite album by ID, as I like the more rockier approach. I think this album isn't bad and I like a lot of the songs on it, but what I do really hate is the annoying trap hihats in almost every song
I respectfully disagree about the track Machine. I felt like it was easily one of the best songs on the album along with Natural. (The rest of the Songs are trash though)
But think about that, people can listen whatever they want to listen, but I know what you feel about that. For me Origins is sth like reborn version of Night Visions, many songs are very similar in the tune and vibe. His firsts unofficial EPS where like this, song West Coast for example. They are Indie band like I said before so they could use from many diffrent sources that are common these days, because it matches with their style and they are just people who wanna to rise money from their music, but just is only my clue, Greetings
Because the thing is, people including You thinks that they are evolving in something diffrent that was before or ealier in their carrier. For me myself they are same like in 2007, even the digital is similar If we thing about this
I'm honestly upset that so many people hate this new album. I'm honestly in love with it, I know all their song and I love all of them. This new album to me is amazing, like all the others they have released, but I hate to see how many people are upset with them. I know I can't change others opinions, but it pisses me off. Bands and singers work hard to make new albums and make people happy with them, so I feel that everyone should at last be a little resourceful to them for their work. If anybody has a problem with what I said, fuck off.
I am a huge fan of Imagine Dragons, but even I can tell you they are definitely not a rock band. They have a few rock songs, but they kind of job around between genres with each song, so alternative works better
Dan Reynolds always said Imagine Dragons is a genre-less band, they make songs about whatever is going on in the world. First time i listened to Origins i wasn’t sure, but when i listened the second time it was great.
Nothing wrong with saying yes to many things.... as long as you don't compromise quality. Collaboration can be epic or groundbreaking. That said, I was disappointed by my first listen.
Hey that was mean when you said "it's a waste of your time" like how do you know? Someone who hasn't heard imagine dragons could still like them if they hear the album after watching your video. So it was a bit mean of telling people what to do and what not to do.
Imagine dragons USED to be the biggest rock band in the world. Their first 2 records were incredible. They were fresh, new, and authentic for rock. But evolve was a slip up, and origins is just commercial pop music and terrible. As a long time fan, I was pretty hurt by this album. They seem to have forgotten about everything that made them special and unique. Pretty disappointed. Hopefully the bounce back, but this album sucked.
Smoke and mirrors had their best song (I’m so sorry) and a few other amazing songs, but night visions was the best overall, but even the worst song on either of those albums is better then the best on evolve and origins
I understand there will be hate against just about every band or artist out here, and this guys points arent all invalid. However, I hate the fact that he seems to always find the negative in imagine dragons. Many things he brings up as negative points in this review, he celebrates as the best parts in reviews for other artists. I don’t expect everyone to love this group, but I wish he would actually give them a chance instead of finding a negative to counter and crush every positive he brings out of this album.
I kinda like the fact their music is all over the place, it feels like the sound never gets old, there's always something new and fresh to listen to from this band, whether it's good or not, it always takes you by surprise.
Two reviews in one day. Also I just listened to Simulation Theory and the album overall, it’s enjoyable for the most part but I will say that Propaganda and Break it to Me are weird. I don’t really mind Something Human or Get Up and Fight, but there not over the top. Algorithm, The Dark Side, Pressure, Blockades, and Dig Down are the positives for me. I honestly think it’s better than Drones at some parts but I’m still not sure yet. Just my opinion
Actually opposite for me. I somehow really loved Propaganda and Break it to Me but SH and Get up and Fight made me want to bash my head against the wall. Album wasn’t as bad as I feared so I consider this a plus still.
Running total is currently 10: - Lost Cause (Frankenweenie) - Ready Aim Fire (Iron Man 3) - Who We Are (Hunger Games: Catching Fire) - Not Today (Me Before You) - Levitate (Passengers) - Warriors (League of Legends) - Battle Cry (Transformers 4) - Zero (Wreck-It-Ralph 2) - Sucker For Pain (Suicide Squad) - Monster (Infinity Blade) I honestly thought Origins was a serious step up, and whilst I have noticed they've done a lot of soundtracks for films/games etc, a lot of the songs (namely shit like Who We Are, Warriors and Monster in terms of my personal preference) aren't actually that bad. I definitely think that some of the songs do have the serious problem of crippling mediocrity, for instance Machine, Zero and Digital, but I found myself enjoying most of the album.
Call me dumb but don’t producers behind movies and stuff usually decided if they want to use certain songs or not. Also I know they made some sounds for soundtracks but I don’t think they’re sitting around going “ok this song is good for this movie or this commercial let’s sell it.”
I respectfully disagree with your entire review. Not only Imagine Dragons have been evolving they've been experimenting and adding new sounds and colours to their album. Digital, Evolve is no exception from the idea to be true to the tone and create new powerful, aesthetic content. While singles like Bad Liar shows the dark side in a relationship leading to the monotonicity in love life, song like digital throw off to dance and colourful aspiration of uplifting persona in one's life. Natural is aslo a breathtaking masterpiece and other songs like 'Birds', 'Stuck', 'Only' explore what as humans we could bring in to our senses. Evolve was even better at this idea of Imagine Dragons. If I had to rate I'd Give 4 stars: Digital 4.5 stars: Evolve
Imagine Dragons are definitely changing. I like part of Evolve, and some of the older songs like Demons. They're style is changing it's not to bad but I rather their old songs.
I agree so much with your opinion on the song Zero ! I actually love the instrumental and the melody but the lack of emotion and investement in the song concerning the vocals is bothering me a bit. I love Natural (the construction verse chorus verse chorus slow and emotional part chorus is something that I appreciate in songs), the energy, the lyrics and the melody are things that I appreciate a lot. Birds is... well I think it's a good song for many people but I generally dislike "slow and emotional songs" unless they're very original and talk about things I relate deeply to. So it's a miss for me. Finally, Bad Liar : I like it but I don't listen to it on my own (just when it is on the radio). The verses are blank and the chorus is repetitive but I like the pre-verses parts ("Look me in the eyes, tell me what you see, perfect paradise etc"). I don't have an opinion on the other songs of the album because I didn't listen to them, I only told my opinion about the songs I heard on the radio. As for your video in itself, I enjoyed it a lot as always :) I love your honesty, respect and passionate way of talking about music !
Someone get me a running total on how many Imagine Dragons songs were either made for movie/TV/video game soundtracks, or else were featured in there.
This album brought back my crippling depression
10 originals made solely for whatever medium they were produced for, all within a 6 year period. Cant say how many times they’ve been featured in movies & tv shows though. That number is near infinite.

I wish they would make more songs like Radioactive or Demons but it seems we'll never get that side of them again!
I thought Natural was in the same ballpark as a song like Radioactive...
Cynical Scorpio Natural sounds similar because the shouty vocals, similar to Believer
Yeah but the pentatonic vocal parts aren't in those songs! That are in Demons and Radioactive!
@@CynicalScorpio Sort of, but it's not even half as deep as a lot of Night Visions work, especially tracks like Amsterdam.

Imagine Dragons was featured in 83 soundtracks according to IMDB.
At least, it has a cool album cover 😁
D.X.D Mashups i’m only still interested in imagine dragons because of all the cool ass artwork
Album cover are made by Beeple. He is very good 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
imagine dragons is the first band i fell in love with. 11 year old me heard "night visions" for the first time and just couldn't listen to anything else for months. it was fresh, the stomp-clap mix into indie-rock with pop and alternative influences was so unique and powerful. there was nothing like it out there. then came "smoke + mirrors" which i believe to be their greatest album to this day. completely different from "night visions" and receiving strange hate because it was not as commercially successful, this was one-of-a-kind, industrial alternative music that stayed virtually completely off the charts because it was just that wild and incredible. i cannot praise "smoke + mirrors" enough - for sound and personal sentiment, it's my favourite album ever. then we get to "evolve" which was a step down, but i could forgive it for many catchy moments and clever pop infusion. this, though... this hurts. i know they can do better. i'm racking my brain trying to figure out why they gave up on continuing to wow us with their perfect blend of electronics, guitar, synth, and power percussion. this is bland. it has incredible moments, and i really recommend you check out the three deluxe tracks, they're better than the majority of this album. i agree with your review but was surprised you didn't like "machine"; i actually really appreciate its call-back to "smoke + mirrors", but agree to disagree :) idk i'm pretty bummed, definitely will listen to it way more and i'm sure parts of it will grow on me, but i just hate that the instrumentals aren't matching lyrics that are maybe not as strong as they used to be, but are still good and filled with genuine emotion. they told the fans that if you liked "smoke + mirrors" you would like "origins" and i just feel like i've been lied to. they aren't doing themselves justice in the eyes of their true fans, which i find really sad. oh well.
You couldn't have put it any better. I agree with every word you said!!
Too bad, kiddo
I was hoping you’d like Machine, it’s my personal favorite. Reminded me of great songs from S+M like Friction and Hopeless Opus. Different strokes I guess. I personally think this album is heaps better than Evolve. It’s not exactly rock but its a decent pop album. I do agree that some songs are begging for better production
I loved Machine. Also, while not great, I did think the songs West Coast and Digital were still pretty good IMO.
Elebrony I actually really hated Digital. Probably my least favorite from the band but that’s okay. It’s a bit too out of left field. The rest of the songs were great to mediocre for me.
Stuck was actually like top 3 for me though
Imo, the singles they released first was good. That is, except for Zero, Dan just sounded like he was mumbling
You can hear it in his voice from the start what his feelings are about this album 😂
Grant Thiel Honestly 😂😂😂
Grant Thiel nice profile pic 👍🏻
They said that origins was the litle sister of evolve so if you are waiting for old imagine dragons well wait for next albulm
I keep waiting for the next album to be the old imagine dragons lulz. Doesn't happen
Hey if it’s better than Evolve it should be pretty good for me
One Star Closer it’s still no where near smoke and mirrors or night visions, I gave up on them after hearing dancing in the dark
Well that’s what happens when you get mainstream nowadays it seems.
Michigan29 agreed. Those albums are almost from a different band. The vibes on S+M are amazing. And all for you represented a height in many ways that Imagine Dragons never reached in any other instance.
ItzaMe how is smoke and mirrors worse, it had at least three songs better than any song on origins
Michigan29 Lol you hate a band because of their worst song? It’s like throwing a tantrum because you couldn’t solve a math problem.
I got into Imagine Dragons in 2011 and I loved all their EPs and their first two albums were such pure gold. Evolve was such a let down and so is Origins. Still love them, just wish they'd go back to their older sound a bit.
Evolve was good. Wtf?
evolve was a monstrosity but i love origins
To me their last good album was Smoke+Mirrors. And the best one at that. I love pretty much every song in it. Since then I just dont feel their music. It sounds too "generic" if you can even say that.
Mip Mup I agree that was a GENUINELY GOOD ROCK ALBUM i really enjoyed it but everything since has been reallyyyy lame
Yeah S+M was for sure their peak
Night Visions was better
Mip Mup Evolve was bland, but Origins is a step up.
Evolve was good. Tf?
Devil works hard but jon works harder
😂
If Imagine Dragons is still considered "Rock" or "Alternative Rock" then I'm an 18th Century Poet.
Well they're more rock than 75% of Beatles songs so I don't know what your problem is
I Like Trains no they arent
As much as it hurts to admit, they're a pop band now
I Like Trains except they're not!
I Like Trains what the Beatles were a rock band look at baby your a rich man or all too much those are 100% rock
Huge ID fan and I agree 100% on the review. Some good ideas just very inconsistent. I’m surprised you liked “Only”. It reminded me if Maroon 5 and The Chainsmokers made a song together. Better than Evolve but not close to Night Visions or S+M
The quilty "Only" far surpasses most of what the chainsmokers did...
S+M is untouchable
Same im a fan but im disapointed
Only was boring melodically.
Ik Hoi some reviewers seem biased towards negativity
Bruh, I just got an ID Alexa commercial. XD
Honestly, as an ID fan I can completely agree. Definitely better than evolve, but the only songs I like on this album were Natural and Machine.
What about West Coast?
Evolve was good. Wtf?
I feel like this album could have been better if they took more time writing and recording it. Instead, they decided that one year between albums was a good idea...
They said that they wanted it out because it would be irrelevant to them in time
Imo, I get a Smoke and Mirrors vibe off of a couple songs like Boomerang and Machine (my top favorites).
Well Dun, Jøsh - Bøisterøus Hal they do put on a great show but I’m having a hard time liking this new album
One of my favorites was smoke+mirrors too
Am I the only one who actually likes Evolve?
Jonathan Tostado nope. I don’t like it as much as I once did, THAT’s for sure, but I haven’t changed my profile picture yet
Another Imagine Dragons album? My prayers have been answered.
Prayers to Satan?
@@artvjon LMAOOO
@@artvjon Who else could be responsible for their success?
ARTV Hey man cmon that’s just low, thought you were above that kinda thing. You might not like the album, but if I know one thing about Imagine Dragons it’s that they mean a lot to some people.
It's a bit early though I think we can all agree on that
What makes me sad is that when I listened to their first album "Night Visions" i saw potential in the band and I really did like that album.
Ja'Crispies Exactly the same for me, it’s frustrating as they have shown they can write great music but I personally think those days are far behind us
Evolve was great.
JTG 2102 your opinion.
I might have to give it another listen but rn I’m not sure if I like it or not
simranpun lol I felt the same at first but listen to the songs a few times
They really grow on you
At least they did for me 😂
At least this is better than Evolve.
Is it though, if it is, it's close.
I like your name
@@NooxieKym ya tvoye tozhe
I liked Evolve, it just felt like it could be massively improved. It was way too pop, even for Imagine Dragons standards, who are mostly a pop rock band. At least it's a good summer album and is admitingly pretty nostalgic to the summer of 2017.
Oh hell no it isn't
I love this album. Songs "Boomerang", "Machine", "Cool Out", "Bad Liar", "West Coast" & "Only" are my favourites
Whatever happened to ‘quality over quantity’?
Innit I'm surprised they've done another so quickly
Thanks for the heart, Jon!
They said they wanted it out this soon because they thought it would be irrelevant to them in a few years
Lewis LeWiki Kinda like how they’ll be irrelevant in a few years! lol
Right???
@@artvjon They just kind of exist. I don't get the hype that they are still given lol.
If they made less interesting lyrics it could be more generic. Natural has well-written lyrics.
Horseman Secretariat that’s the same with so many artists. They’re hyped up but in reality lots of high school seniors or even younger write better material. Imagine Dragons used to have much better material, but half of this album is just as bad as Justin Bieber.
The thumbnail kinda says it all.
Also, I gotta say, I am pretty sure ID wouldn't get so much hate if they weren't arguably the biggest band in the world right now
This whole comments section is full of fake fans.
Ur so ri8
It does kinda. What do you think of the other deluxe songs? I like them.
I see a lot of the comments being *they aren’t even rock anymore.* *at least it’s better than evolve.* *what happened to them*
Well here’s my opinion,
Imagine Dragons is my favorite band atm and I love their albums.
Madeleine Alise exactly 🙃
“Bad side of the hay” is my new favorite expression
I honestly love this album I think it’s awesome
Ehhhh... some people are critics🤷♀️ I, on the other hand, am loving this new album😁
Imagine dragons never called themselves rock
They have always considered themselves genreless
I actually really like that album because it's happier than Evolve or Smoke & Mirrors for example. In my opinion it's really cool how they have different types of sounds if i can say it that way. Imagine Dragons is a band that many people don't like because they only know the Chart Songs like Thunder or Natural but I really like the unpopular songs they have like for example Round & Round or Friction! :)
You killed muse and image dragons in one day? Damn john
Killed? Nah...
Sterling Hannemann dead surprised they got the same score
So he disliked simulation theory then I take it, not too surprising. There hasn't been much out of this year (from what I watched) that he enjoyed, except trench.
Those are like my two favorite bands LOL
I can agree that this isnt remotely their best album, but it isnt bad, im just confused as to why every album they make needs to be ground breaking, if they make a generic album that doesnt make it bad, i think this is just a chill album not an album full of bangers
Have you been able to see them live? yeah I know they are sell outs but like Nickelback they are fun and energetic and they know how to play live.
Music Man Dan r
They are excellent live
@@ryanb.9285 huh?

@@Itza-Me now why in the world would anyone want to be his fan
@@Itza-Me oh okay for some Reason I thought he was talking about this particular album and not the band in general. Hehe. I do like them just not so much this album
Damn, an Imagine Dragons and a Muse album on the same day, I've gotta listen to both. Are you gonna be reviewing the new Smashing Pumpkins album when it comes out?
This is so sad, i really like their first album and it´s a shame to see them go downhill to become a mainstream and generic band
They have always been great. Wtf?
Their first album was very "mainstream and generic" lol
Damn straight!
Amen

I actually really like this album. I like all albums by ID. This isn’t my favorite album by them... but I did listen to it 3 times today.
I try to be positive about the music people make, but holy shit these guys are obnoxiously generic. It really doesn’t help that you can’t escape their music
Honestly, I agree their generic but I don’t think their obnoxiously generic. And you can escape their music if you don’t like the song just don’t listen to it.
Admit it, the first time you heard them you must have thought it was some new wacky thing. Then they became big and eh
Really? Smoke and Mirrors is obnoxiously generic?
^Innit, if Imagine Dragons are generic than Dua Lipa is a bag of potatoes
Listen to Smoke+Mirrors, come back and say that
Oh, she has a discount code, now? James could never.
Lol I think this variability is what makes imagine dragons great
I disagree this album is awesome i really liked .bullet in a gun , real life , digital, bad lair , cool out and the machine .. it's something different something new ❤️❤️
Sammeee
Same
I think that this album is a call back to their EP days, and tracks on this album remind me of older tracks like I Need A Minute, and Curse. It gives a nostalgic feel, which I think is what they were trying to get at with the title "Origins". I think this is a nice bridge between EP ID and album ID.
*Dan reynolds*
"we've been pretty genreless since the beginning, so whereas some bands get pigeonholed, we're able to be all over the gamut.
Admirał Hax no. They have only gotten worse. Smoke+Mirrors was their best, and then they just-I dunno what they did. It’s not been good though
Fabulous Killjoy I agree about Smoke+Mirrors.
Y'all know Jon Lajoie's track "Please Use This Song"? Imagine Dragon's whole discography is just that song except played straight.
I haven’t watched yet I just wanted to say this album amazed me and brought me to tears. I feel like a changed person. This is leaps and bounds ahead of evolve (my least favorite album)
oh that's amazing, great for you
Sameee
It's a 3 out of 5 for me
I quite like this album and this band, they have some proper good bangers in every album (Evolve had that too don't hate)
I think they're issue now is that they're not sure what they want to be, that's the main issue with the album, change is good, so them going for a more pop style I'm fine with.
1:20 what's wrong with that they r lyrically and musically amazing and doing soulful songs that's what matters
Being a huge ass imagine dragons fan... like unhealthily addiction
I love this album
I kinda don’t like only
But I love the SELLOOOOOUT in bullet in a gun
The chorus in Digital
And west coast as a full
Real life has some on top of the world vibes
The 'sellout' bit's kind of hypocritical but it's an alright song
S+M is my favourite album by ID, as I like the more rockier approach. I think this album isn't bad and I like a lot of the songs on it, but what I do really hate is the annoying trap hihats in almost every song
I respectfully disagree about the track Machine. I felt like it was easily one of the best songs on the album along with Natural. (The rest of the Songs are trash though)
They are Indie band from the beginning, it ends the discussion
Lmao
But think about that, people can listen whatever they want to listen, but I know what you feel about that. For me Origins is sth like reborn version of Night Visions, many songs are very similar in the tune and vibe. His firsts unofficial EPS where like this, song West Coast for example. They are Indie band like I said before so they could use from many diffrent sources that are common these days, because it matches with their style and they are just people who wanna to rise money from their music, but just is only my clue, Greetings
Because the thing is, people including You thinks that they are evolving in something diffrent that was before or ealier in their carrier. For me myself they are same like in 2007, even the digital is similar If we thing about this
I'm just waiting for the Imagine Dragons fanboys to come on and dislike this video without listening to your valid criticism
I’m a HUGE fan but this album was pretty bad tbh
Well his criticism was valid until the Nickelback comparison, smh
This album got me listening non-stop compared to Evolve and S+M. Night Visions got played to death years ago. Origin is absolutely fantastic.
We all have opinions, I respect yours, But tbh I grew up with this band so I personally like them. But props to this great video
There was a time when they were kind of a “rock” band when demons and radioactive were coming out, but now they are pop
I love Natural, from it's the beat the song lyrics the synthesizers it consistancy and the guitar.
Papa Peaches01 smoke and mirrors was pretty ass too

After listening to this album, I disagree, I think evolve is better, this album feels incredibly generic and safe.
I feel the same way, and I feel like some of the things the whole ARTV community says about ID is just ridiculous.
@Jaxon Ehm there are a few total ass-kissers here who will throw hate at ID at every opportunity possible
Wait, why didn't you just put that in the comments of the muse album review?
Origins is something else. I liked it a little bit better than Night Visions and I don't know why.
Running total is currently 10:
- Lost Cause (Frankenweenie)
- Ready Aim Fire (Iron Man 3)
- Who We Are (Hunger Games: Catching Fire)
- Not Today (Me Before You)
- Levitate (Passengers)
- Warriors (League of Legends)
- Battle Cry (Transformers 4)
- Zero (Wreck-It-Ralph 2)
- Sucker For Pain (Suicide Squad)
- Monster (Infinity Blade)
I honestly thought Origins was a serious step up, and whilst I have noticed they've done a lot of soundtracks for films/games etc, a lot of the songs (namely shit like Who We Are, Warriors and Monster in terms of my personal preference) aren't actually that bad.
I definitely think that some of the songs do have the serious problem of crippling mediocrity, for instance Machine, Zero and Digital, but I found myself enjoying most of the album.
Honestly songs like Natural and Bad Liar are pretty good which gave me hope that Origins would be good at least
I like how they expand everywhere as in the themes of the songs
If I had to rate I'd Give
4 stars: Digital
4.5 stars: Evolve
