  • Join me on a journey of restoration and respect as I take on the task of cleaning up a neglected cemetery. This sacred space had been overtaken by overgrown grass, unruly bushes, and was littered with debris, leaves, pine straw, and invasive vines.
In this video, I roll up my sleeves and dive into the task of bringing this cemetery back to its former glory. Watch as I trim back the overgrowth, clear away the debris, and painstakingly remove the dirt from each gravestone face.
This isn't just a clean-up job; it's a labor of love and a tribute to those who rest here. It's about restoring dignity and peace to a place that holds so much history and so many stories.
Join me in this transformation and witness the dramatic before and after. It's a testament to what a little hard work and dedication can achieve.
Remember, every place has a story to tell, and every story deserves to be respected. Let's do our part in preserving these stories for future generations.
Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe if you enjoyed this video and want to see more like it. Your support helps me continue this important work.
Thank you for watching and being a part of this journey
    I love you all!

This might be the final resting ground of the entire family, and to know that somebody cared enough to make it beautiful once again on behalf of that family is truly heartwarming. This is one transformation that will be appreciated by many. Beautiful job from beginning to end! The flowers and flags are a special addition.KUDOS!!!

Thank you. I can see your huge respect for those buried so humbly. Invite the local press to come visit, discover who were interred there and prompt the community to tending the cemetery regularly. This is the kind of thing churches used to do. A good project for school kids or boy scouts, or retirees. Great touch - flower plants!

Hook Family Cemetery also named Mathias-Hook Family Cemetery
in West Columbia, Lexington, South Carolina. There would remain about 20 tombstones in this family cemetery reserved for the Hooks. There is also an avenue called Hook nearby.

It’s likely there are no living members of the families buried in the cemetery left in the area. They pass away, they move far from the area in search of employment, but mostly, they just don’t care. They never knew any of the deceased, Great Uncle Ned tended to the cemetery until he no longer could do so, there is no reverence for the deceased, and a lot of the people today believe that the land is for the living, not the dead. Thank you for honoring the people who have been laid to rest here.

I have always loved cemetery's and found them peaceful. I used to walk around in them reading the names and dates too. I was only like 12, and I remember seeing graves that were neglected and looked so sad with weeds all over. I would pull the weeds and clean them up as best I could, then this will sound terrible, but I would see graves that had lots of flowers, and I would take a few off them and put them on the sad ones. Thank you for doing this. This one really touched me! 😊❤

You were a person after my own heart. I did many things the same. Cemeteries are always a peaceful place for me and when I go and visit my parents and leave flowers for them I leave lots around for folks that I knew or that I didn’t know and no one was there to leave flowers for them. I also bought the cleaning supplies so that I could clean up stones that looked neglected.

I don’t know which direction the graves are facing but around here I’ve been told that graves generally face east. I have no sense of direction so you may know how that works where you are. In North and South Carolina many older families had family graveyards and everyone in that cemetery was kin in one way or another. However that particular graveyard may have been for that purpose or, as you said, there might have been a church in that area. In any case, you have done a respectful and lovely job in looking after this group of graves. May you always be blessed and respected as well! Thank you!

For a first time stone cleaner, you did a pretty good job. So glad you made the effort to do the research! Many well meaning efforts have caused a lot of damage. Please use a very soft plastic putty knife, never metal. In addition to using a soft bristle brush, use a light touch when scrubbing. Also, you can scrub less and use less D2 (it looks like that is what you are using, good choice!) by applying once and scrubbing, rinse, re-apply and walk away. Over time - weeks, months - the stone will continue to clean up! Please use a guard on your weed eater to avoid abating the stones. Bless you for making the effort to show respect for this little graveyard.

There were several cemeteries in my hometown. My brother was like you...cleaned them up but one was hidden in a wooden area behind a gas station. That one held a horse thief according to my other brother's genealogy research 😂
One was near a place where the only doctor in our family lived. They even named a road after him. He actually treated Jesse and Frank James for gunshot wounds. Frank James is buried down the street in back of our childhood park. Write-ups in the local paper proved all of these findings. The one big cemetery was just like this one you cleaned except 3x the size. My brother just mowed it but it was great to see the big headstones with our family names chiseled in. Thanks for doing this hard work 🙌 💪 🙏 💜
