Lot of ppl saying that the celtics bench aint that good. However, the celtics have picks and the bucks don't. They could trade those picks to get more players for their bench at the deadline. Celtics def won this trade 🥱
The bucks didn't add "dame" talent, they added the difference between dame and holiday. Same forthe celtics. They didn't add Porzingis and jrue. They added the difference between Smart, Brogdon (one could add Grant williams) plus Rob Williams and Jrue plus Porzingis. How that pans out is yet to be seen. It's been 3 games... Lotta ball left to be played.
I agree, and anything could change over the year as each coach figures out how best to use what they have. But early returns show the Celtics as far better just because they have 6 guys who can take over a game any given night. so if one or two are off (which has happened in each game so far), the others pick it up. As to where with Milwaukee, if Dame isn't hitting, they become a very average team due to the defensive drop-off. Again, that's just the early observations I have seen. Not saying anything is definitive, but the patterns are there for each team. Especially since even when Dame was "on" they still barely beat a short-handed team at home. Sure, the numbers were gaudy and made the talking heads all moist. But the team numbers...not great. Especially against a weakened playoff team
Smart, brogden and the Williams are all players that the Celtics can do without. They delivered under the Celtics system but will be mid players elsewhere. Is what it is, no one is gushing over them.
@1zuponatime262 don't disrespect Kobe's memory by putting Dame in his class of player. He's not even close. Giannis to Shaq though?... even Shaq agrees with that, so i got nothing against that
Dame is a great player. Don't get me wrong. But we are talking about a guy who was great on a middle of the road team, and most years, it was a bad team outside of him. Even if he wasn't shooting well, he could take 30+ shots and find ways to get his numbers. In Portland, he had to because he never had a guy on his level, and McCollum was hurt so much. He can't do that on Milwaukee, so if he's not hitting, he can't do much else. He can't defend (see Trae Young having a 20/10 game while Dame struggled), he can't pass really well (see 6 turnovers vs. Atlanta). So, really, Boston did win the trade this year. But I have full faith that the Bucks will figure it out and get better pieces around them next year. I think they will run off a few titles together, but it's not going to be this year, and it's not going to be easy.
@@DetroitEast meaningless. The Lakers with a .500 squad made the WCF . Injuries happen, teams get hot at the right time, it doesn't mean anything unless you win.
After that trade I thought it was bad. Milwaukee made their bench worse and they literally gave up their future because Giannis won’t be there in 2029. If one of those two superstars get injured. They are in trouble. The Celtics have six players who can put up 25+ points. They can afford a injury and they can afford for one or two guys to have a offer night and they can still win. I know it’s just one game, but we just saw Milwaukee lose to Atlanta. Atlanta is not good on defense whatsoever. Milwaukee should never lose to a team like that. I could see Celtics and heat in the finals again in the east.
First of all, Boston didn't 'win the Damian Lillard trade'. That would imply that it was a three-team deal, which it was not. Boston won the Jrue Holiday trade, which was its own beast with multiple teams reportedly involved. This was distinctly a different trade that was motivated by the previous Lillard-to-Milwaukee trade. Dame going to Milwaukee and Marcus Smart being in Memphis meant that Boston desperately needed a defensive guard. The alternative was to rely on Derrick White to defend Lillard for an entire series and general NBA logic says that no defensive specialist can reliably stop a superstar scorer for seven games. Jrue was the perfect fit, a guy that could make his own shot, pass well and defend at an elite level. Secondly, Boston does come out ahead slightly in my eyes. The reason is that Jrue can directly impact Dame's game. Lillard himself once said that Holiday was the toughest defender at the PG position in the NBA. No one has ever accused Lillard of elite defense. So while the Celtics and Bucks can add Jrue's and Dame's offense respectively, the Bucks have to subtract whatever defense Jrue can play on Dame. I am not saying that Jrue is a better player, but he is a better-rounded player who is capable of being an elite contributor on both sides of the ball.

I don't think so. Dame isn't the kind of player that thrives on the Celtics. It's the same reason why I've said for year that James wouldn't have been a good fit. Boston plays team ball and it's always the sum of their parts that matters. Look at every championship Celtic team, and you had multiple guys who were great, and you also had a great passer. You never had a guy who dominated the ball every play, that's not Celtic basketball. That's how Dame and others play, culturally it's just not a good fit. I mean look at the Jays, and what they have to do every night. they can't just score, they have to do a little of everything AND they need a distributor to get things going. Dame isn't that guy, it's not in his DNA
