- it's been a while! just got the Sonic Spinball soundtrack on vinyl and just had to make a video. i LOVED this game as a kid, and as adult it's still super fun. but man, idk if i've ever made it past that third stage!
The first song is "Toxic Caves", the first stage of the game. Most players will remember this for its grimy bassline and slick grooves. I give it a flip to Side B to "The Machine" a really funky IDM kind of tune. both tracks are played 10% slower than 45RPM, I find Genesis / FM Synth music gets super deep when slowed.
I show of my new lights, they're called TEKE and I kickstarted them over one thousand years ago. Just experimenting with presets today, once I learn to program them I'm excited to try out new lighting arrangements for these videos.
this record was pressed by Data Discs, imo the most legendary and consistent video game record label in the whole dang world. They've pressed my personal favorite #vgmvinyl Streets of Rage by Yuzo Koshiro. So when I saw they were doing the official Sonic Spinball, I had to pick it up!
Sonic Spinball was composed by Howard Drossin, Brian Coburn & Barry Blum, originally published for Sega Genesis in 1993.
Toxic Caves sounds so good slowed like this
@@ExpressoTheCat and also with the PSG chip being in a different tuning from the FM chip, mmmm gotta love some out of key notes
This game had some THICC bass lines lol
That's the Genesis for ya.
I just wanna have some proper audio equips to enjoy this kind of thing..
I think that this is the first upload of 'The Machine' on UA-cam to get all the FM sounds to actually sound like they do on real hardware instead of shitty emulation. Massive props to whoever made this audio release for actually getting it right.
Digital Game OST's on Vinyl is so odd to me, Generally people praise Vinyl for having a more authentic sound, but these OST's can be perfectly recreated in full original quality already, so I suppose it's more of a novelty than anything
Personally I am in it for the speed control. The way vinyl adjusts to speed is so cool, organic and natural sounding. Compare this video to an upload of the vanilla soundtrack
@@DjCutman Oh cool insight! I cannot wait to get a vinyl player.
@@CrispyLightVybez I'd argue there are some advantages to Vinyl. some musicians specifically took advantage of vinyl being one continuous recording, it wasn't until a couple years ago Spotify added a natural bleed in for certain albums but even than some still don't do this. And some digital releases still don't naturally bleed in. Obviously this can be fixed by the consumer afterwards, but not many official releases do this.
It's also arguably the superior format to collect physically, being both more valuable, more reliable, and more appealing format.
I'm not going to argue either side for sound quality though, cause honestly to the average consumer there about the same in quality. You can argue digital is scientifically superior audio quality wise, but if its being run through $20 speakers, its gonna sound like its coming out of $20 speakers.
@@CrispyLightVybez Vinyl can reproduce essentially any frequency, while CDs clock out at a specific range
Why so much philosophy on listening on vinyl, CD or etc? Maybe people like me who enjoy the music through the aspect of how is the theory used trend to not care a shit about diminute details like the quality of the playing as long as it's acceptable.
I always thought Sonic was wearing a jacket in the art on the title as a kid. Never realized they were his shoes. 😄
I cant believe somebody thought the same exact thing as me lol
Gonna be wearing a red Micheal Jackson jacket during this jam
So it wasn’t just me???
i'm trying to see the jacket but I can't. I only see his shoes
@@crimsonlycaondc143c6 the shoes are the sleeves of the jacket
The vinyl carries a little more of those deep drops and lows better than the digital output of the console itself and it's great!
Yeah man sonic may not have all the greatest hit games but god damn does the music absolutely slap consistently too. No shot many game series can say the same, mid games but killer osts.
Sonic Spinball sounds awesome on vinyl! Totally wish I had enough space in my apartment for one of these decks 🎶
Toxic Caves sounds super jarring slowed down like this, but I really like the B side, it does let that baseline shine 😁
I remember playing this game on the PS3 Sonic's Mega Genesis Collection all the time! I never got past the first area until I used save points on the NSO Expansion Pass though.
"Newly Remastered Audio" my foot. The original soundtrack on the genesis sounds SO MUCH BETTER and is at the ACTUAL SPEED it needs to be listened at (for those curious listen to this on 1.15x speed and it's just a pitched down version of the game music)...
Glad to see Sonic made it to Vinyl though. But SEGA needs to actually LISTEN to this and hear the difference between the two.
SONIC SPINBALLLLLLLLLL
no idea my friends and i just thought this game was so silly that now it is permanently lodged in my brain
Sing with me:
Ba da doo dada bada dadada badada doo badada doo dada bada dadada badada doo badada dada
(dododododooodo doo doo doo doodododo) (dododododooodo doo doo doo doodododo)
Childhood nostalgia right here.
Can't stop listening.
Well it IS spinning
This is Fire 🌡️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.
The first track is engrained in my soul. Stuck on that level for hours haha
They didn't have the banger options menu tune :(
Sounds like it's at 50 Hz
oh GOD I WANT THIS VINYL
It's wild how slow it is
it would've been a crime NOT making the record blue
That second song! 😲🤯🔥🔥 Sonic games always have some of the best music (even when it's hilariously bad). I honestly did not expect it to go so hard!
I've gotta get this! Lots of good tracks on this soundtrack and it sounds fantastic on vinyl IMO.
Hell yeah. Sounds like Earthworm Jim.
This is awesome!
This was great, thank you!
That is just hypnotizing.
Love your stuff 👍
S P I N B A L L
Now will this include the gorgeous options menu theme?
remembering renting this game and i was so happy for the music and sonic in a pinball game! Funky stuff !!
Best sonic game
Hella nostalgia, amazing!!!!
Wow, i want this!!!
I would definitely love something like this but I'm sure I would have to pay a pretty penny for one.
amazing!!
goated -- bro how did they get the music to literally sound like clucking in the bird zone lol wilde
man does this sound nice
Hell yeah
Love to hear this scratched.
Sounds juicy af, makes me want to listen to Lave Powerhouse and that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Bonus Stage Zone OST, or just anything from that game.
thats fire
I 'grew up' (read: I later got a hold of Sonic Mega Collection Plus) with many Genesis/Mega Drive songs at 50hz, so they were slowed down by a sixth, and hearing them at the original 60hz sounds weird to me.
Woahh interesting! This recording is slowed down a bit too on my record player
This sounds great when you have concert reverb enabled too, I forgot I did and kept listening lol.
Much as Sonic Spinball is shit on (I get it, but I kinda still enjoy the idea of it), the soundtrack is legit the best part and it's awesome to have it on vinyl.
based cutman
Hell yeah!!
Wow, that's sound great, slower but great.
😁👍
Now I want to hear the options theme
Yesssss!!!!
I feel like I can hear the game's lag in the beat itself.
On it's own, it's such a weird track. Slowed down a hair, the attack of every instrument feels a bit drunk.
Also... I don't know if I've ever heard so much of the soundtrack uninterrupted by sound effects.
Analog approved
I wonder if you could do the same with some of the Earth Worm Jim tracks, they slap hard as well
Lol so sick
ironic i used to play sonic spinball
such a missed opportunity that the disc doesn't have an image of sonic in a ball
Not sure why this is on vinyl, but ok.
It's maddening how more VG osts are done exclusively for vinyl instead of making them available on CD's also. Though Vinyl players are still a novel thing, it's not like people forgot about CD players either. I still think people play CD's more than Vinyls these days, nevermind MP3 players.
When MacBooks stopped having CD drives, I noticed a big dropoff on CD sales at shows and conventions. Vinyl has the audience now I suppose - still I would love high quality digital versions of this music too
Is there a way I could go get this? Silly as it is, I really like it.
DataDiscs might still have some in stock
Sonic Spinball is one my favs growing up. What makes him put game music on vinyl tho? Do people actually dance to this stuff?
C r i s p y
could someone give a timestamp to Credits/Options
no matter how bad a sonic game may be, it still gonna have such bangers
Options theme intensifies.
@@Horrifyingabomination apparently that was a bug, there's a few "fixed" versions of that track floating around that show that it was meant to sound quite different.
@@Horrifyingabomination Even with that, there are still some people who like it (myself included)
Sonic Chronicles would like a sad word with you
@@Snakeshroom exceptions aside...
Truxton - Plan Your Own Party Kit
Look it up
I see you too are a man of culture.
gosh, it sounds bad!
Truxton's song has lived rent free in my head for years now.
The one track i liked by them seems to be lost by time, either that or i got it confused with another EDM artist?
Who did Terminal? the Terminator one?
@@joshwizinsky1979 there's a Lapfox Trax wiki. You should check that out. You're probably thinking of the Renard track from the Intensive Care Unit EP
where's the option menu?
Let me hear the options music lmao
I've beaten SonicSpinball, the final level is ass. You aren't missing much. Killer vinyl though.
why does it sound so slow????
I slowed it down
@@DjCutman oooh, oh wow it sounds jarring
The music that plays in the options menu makes my ears bleed 👀😅
Tesla coils
Data disc's releases have been terrible, CD is horribly mastered.
They do CDs? Their vinyl releases are amazing I thought they only did recorss
Aah, must be the PAL 50Hz version.
