  • hopefully this will show you some of the basics of putting uhmwpe on the bottom of your boat, its best to fit it when building the boat from new as its easier to make it be part of the intake
    I now have a patron site
    www.patreon.co...
    you can see some new stuff here, the first mountain bike clip , If you want to make a donation and put some fuel into the boat tank it would be much appreciated - more boating stuff to come - its not over yet.....

    If you are going to plate with polyethelene please be aware that it expands and contracts quite a lot depending on temperature. For example if you plated outside in the sunshine in middle of summer the sheet would be in an expanded state, when put in cold water it will try to shrink... and more than you think! Try to apply it when the temperatures at its coldest. Otherwise its an excellent product for the purpose.

      it really does shrink allot , im not talking about this application but polyethylene def expands and contracts from my experience in other things

    I'm building a Wattscraft boat right now, and I got the UHMW kit with it. They are expensive, so I only got the center section covered. I was at a fab shop yesterday, and they had a stack of full length pieces that they said they would sell to me super cheap. I think I'm going to go back and get what I need to cover the rest of the hull. I'm doing videos on my build.

    Goatracing610 is still KING of the jet boat videos. Very good tips on how to save the boat from damage. One of my favorite lines in your videos.... "tearing up my boat since 2010 so you don't have to" made me laugh my ass off when I watch that video. Hope the plastic keeps your boat going for years to come. One question I have is where is your gas tank? The boat seems so little, and with 90- 100HP probably burning 6-8 GPH your would need 12-16 gallons US for a two hour boat trip. The black boat I think is the best handling one from just watching the videos. Thanks for the videos

    Howdy Goat. I agree with you but keep in mind you just added 70kg to your boat. The plastic wont stop those real hard hits from denting the hull. Great video, thanks.

      yip Ive added 70kg of shock absorption and protection to the hull - similar to the idea of wearing body armour on a motorbike -if you hit something hard it will leave a bruise , hit something with out amour on , somethings going to break. As it sits the boat weighs in at 180kg,at the moment there is no dints in the new hull and you can see some of what I put it through. I know from experience that if I was to be doing the same hits in a bisalloy or hardox hull the boat would be getting a new bottom on it by now - been there , done that

    instead of cs bolts have you used elevator bolts? We switched to using them to prevent the bolt head tearing through the uhmw. Our problem was material packing between the structure and uhmw forcing the 2 surfaces apart.

    • @goatracing610
      @goatracing610  5 років тому +1

      Im just using ordinary counter sunk bolts as they get threaded into the plastic and the hull . Ive found that if you dont use the silicon to hold/glue everything together it will just rip the bolts out of the plastic. The silicon sticks the plastic to the hull but it also takes some of the stress/load ? of the bolts if you hit something hard

    Hey mate, great vids; thanks for the tips. A couple of questions:
    1. I assume the UHMWPE needs to be folded on a large press brake. Does it need to be preheated before folding?
    2. Am I right in assuming the space between UHMWPE & aluminium is not water tight?
    3. What stops water wicking up the bolt threads? Do you need to apply liquid sealant to bolts &/or bolt holes before fastening together?
    4. If you're tapping both the UHMWPE and aluminium then any initial air gap between the two would remain after a bolt is fully tightened (unless one of the threads strip). Why tap the UHMWPE and not just pre drill it out to 6mm?
    Cheers bloke

    • @murdocwestrup
      @murdocwestrup 4 роки тому

      4. With only 4 mm of alloy not slot to make a thread on an being threaded through will help hold it to stop the bolt spinning while putting the nut on.

    • @goatracing610
      @goatracing610  5 років тому +1

      15mm plastic with some 10mm around the front edge with all the bolts and silicon is roughly another 70 kgs of rock sliding/hitting protection - it means that if you hit anything at speed or just banging rocks all day long at the river your still going to get back home

  • @MrDeanw101
