I recently had this installed. Love it. So far, no issues. It's a long way out to my controller, so I had to put in a wi-fi extender, but now I have no issues and I don't have to trek out to my panel.

Rainbird, at 1:11 you just showed an error that so many homeowners do. You don't have to set a start time for each station. Set a start time and each station will follow in sequence automatically.
The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th start time is for if you want another cycle to run during the day, like if you are seeding a lawn, or if you are watering a steep slope and you want to prevent run off by running 2 cycles an hour or 2 apart.

Great video. Mine does not have the wifi ready faceplate and is exactly like the one shown in the video. Can you advise or share a link of where you can purchase the upgraded faceplate? I was able to locate the wifi adapter but not the faceplate

HI Chad! This video is 4 years old, unfortunately, the replacement face plates were discontinued a while back ago. The updated version controller with WiFi is the ESP4ME3 controller. The whole controller box will need to be replaced not only the faceplate in this case. Hopefully, this helps.

@@RainBirdCorporation Thanks for the response. So in theory, I would need to purchase and install this box replacing the existing one now? Watching some videos on it, it appears that everything in terms of the screws, etc should line up. My current unit supports 3 zones. With that said, do I need to purchase the modules again for a new unit as well or can they be re-used? Additionally, is that wifi plug in adapter included or does that have to be purchased separately?

Chad! That is correct, the whole unit will need to be replaced even though the backplane assembly is the same dimensions and screws line up. The reason why is that the difference will be in the ribbon cable from the new timer. You can still use the same expansion modules with the new timer. The WiFi module is sold separately as well as the ESP-Me timer. Hopefully, this information helps!

I've had the ESP-Me controller installed for a 7-zone irrigation system for over 5 years and it has performed flawlessly. I had another zone (8) that was not used. The controller had base and 3-station modules installed originally. Now I would like to use zone 8 for a drip system. I bought another 3-station module and hooked my wiring up. when I try to program a run time for zone 8 the readout says "SKIP". How do I activate the 3rd module?

Each time I have to use the app on my iPhone I have to go to the timer and initiate the wireless connection. Am I doing something wrong?

Can we upgrade our Rainbird ESP-XLME with 48 stations to wifi control?

Hello Amanda, I work for Rain Bird in the UK. It is now possible to upgrade the face plate of your controller to an LXME2 and then you can add a LNK2 wifi stick and use the Rain Bird App to control it remotely. See your Rain Bird Rep or distributor for details.

It's a pity that this controller doesn't allow you to program by month. For example you can omit days a program doesn't water but it would be great to be able to omit by month also. It should be a relatively easy thing for Rainbird to add this option to their controller...what it would do would allow you to have different programs for different times of the year.

What is the method to transfer the old watering times to the new controller?
Can I use my old 4 station module in the new ESP4ME3 controller?
Are there instructions if I purchase the ESP4ME3 controller for the wiring switch?

    • @RainBirdCorporation

      Hello,
Transferring data to the new controller will be done only manually. All residential controllers do not have the ability to do it through controller commands.
The controller comes with the user's guide. It shows how to operate your controller. It is compatible with older expansion modules, but only if this is a three-station module.

    Steps:
1: Confirm WIFI Link Ready is available to controller
2: Never give home owners the ability to control the clock, they'll most likely screw it up messing around with it
    3: See step 2
