I will never own another HARLEY. With my Honda Shadow and Kawasaki Vulcan, I have two bikes that are better than a Harley and it has the spirit of the Harley, hence the Shadow Spirit 750. Everyone who sees it thinks it's a Harley, except for other motorcycle riders, who know we have more dependable bikes.
The 1100 Sabre, like the 1100 Spirit, were/are 'sleeper' bikes in that they are way better, overall, than most people know. And being a HONDA, that's why this one still runs, despite whatever abuse & neglect it had. Worth cherishing & enjoying!
Owen Johnson I like the bike but it’s got so much corrosion on it. A person could take a part off every weekend, clean them up and make it look pretty good but to get it perfect would cost more than it’s worth. Still a good running machine that could go anywhere.
I believe it! Friend of mine gifted me 2 bikes: An 80 Goldwing,....And a98 Shadow ACE which is near spotless as far as paint, chrome etc. In the process of rebuilding the carbs and general inspection as we speak.
It’s always nice if you’re starting with a clean and complete example. I get lots of offers for free motorcycles but not many are worth messing with. Good luck
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures Most of these bikes are owned by riders who parked them for various reasons, health, time, lack of mechanical abilities etc. These 2 bikes were stored inside and covered but with fuel in them. I have the time, shop space and mechanical ability,(though some might question that) to sort thru the project. So far, so good.
My 1999 Honda Shadow started after standing for 14 years. I filled the tank with transmission fluid so that it doesn't rust .I STAY ON THE COAST. and even I rust.so I I drain the tank put fresh gasoline and 10w40 Castrol. New battery and cranked 15sec. With the sparkplug removed. Then started no problem. That's honda.
I got a 2002 ACE 1100 FOR 600.00 only 2800 miles . it set up for years after the owner passed on so the wife just wanted to get rid of it. Dang good deal and runs like a dream and clean.
I was looking for a bigger bike. I have a Suzuki 2002 VZ800. I did a ton of research on bikes and had a budget of $2,500.00. Everything I looked at was over priced but everyone I talked to said Hondas were bullet proof, as long as you take care of them. 3 months later I found a 2004 Honda Sabre 1100, 14,000 miles, 2 owners, $2,500. I bought it. I'm thinking maintenance was not a priority with the past 2 owners. The bike ran good when I bought it, no oil leaks. It runs great now. New plugs, new plug wires, fuel filter, oil change, final gear oil, it had about an ounce in it. Brake fluid looked good so I will change it this year. The air filter was dirty, I'm thinking it was the original. Due to work and weather I have only been able to put 400 miles on it since November 2020. I have a 1,600 mile trip planned.
Bino Muhammad thank you. I really love working with my son but he’s serving in the Air Force so only get occasional time with him. I better get moving on this bike again!
If the wrong oil was added it will cause clutch slippage, only oil approved for wet clutches should be used. My son learned this $300 lesson on his 2 month old bike (clutch is a wear item not covered by warranty)
I enjoy mine, you’re lucky to get it for free they’re really nice bikes lots of power fun to ride,I keep telling people you don’t need a brand new bike to ride, mine is used & like I said still enjoy it,put a little tlc in that bike & I believe you’ll be pleased with it
Yeah, pretty good machines and I have seen some with lots of miles on them. I just had too many bikes and other projects so I ended up selling this one.
My 02 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 I just bought is having the same problem of the starter being stuck. I’ve broken it loose and it still won’t turn as it should unless I bypass the solenoid.
Fun post Mister Tom. I don't ask usually, not sure I mentioned my friend Chadde's site. If ya do get a chance to visit, PLZ say hey from me, he will get a kick, thanks. GB
Yes, it was free. I end up getting a lot of free stuff, but most of it needs plenty of work. This had no paperwork, so it was a bit of work at the DMV but I did end up with a title.
Stick with that Sabre, they are solid bikes!
Seth Mason for sure is a good machine but I just recently sold it, got too many bikes around here!
Its a Honda, of course it will start.
Of course!
Man! As much as I'd like to have a Harley, that Honda engineering is no joke. Way more affordable too. :)
It’s good that there are a lot of great bike choices out there.

Must have drained the carburetors as well, it doesn’t take long for them to get gunked up. Good bikes though!
What an awesome motorcycle!!
Aaron’s Adventures and Tinkering it did turn out pretty decent.
It's a Honda!!!👌😂😂😂 I bought a 97 Shadow vt1100 with 11 thousand miles on. Replaced the battery. It's a brand new bike!! Its awesome!!👍
They definitely make some good bikes but not many machines can be abandoned and abused…this one was a winner! Ride safely.

It definitely wasn’t an oil issue, was a sitting unused issue! Lots of condensation in the crankcase caused surface corrosion on the clutch plates,
Is there a follow up video?
Daniel Galli not yet, I have it in the rotation to get to later. Paperwork is the biggest hold up now.
