Seven grand buys you a high end mountain bike that is almost pro level. The Laugo Alien is in that range. If you're, say, a dentist who wants to get into target shooting rather than bashing single track in the woods? It's about the same investment.
@@andrewweitzman4006Exactly. People are using the same mindset of buying Laugo products like theyre buying a base Glock. It is so evidently a luxury item and not meant for the average shooter. Other than a bike, 7 grand could get you some holiday trips, maybe a second hand 2cyl motorbike, or a gaming PC. It'd be like complaining that a prebuilt PC with the newest cards and CPU costs close to 8k and justifying that complain with the fact that something lower spec exists for 3k to 5k
You HAVE to try that whole "stocked pistol as your only gun at a match" thing with the Laugo. You can put a much lower parallax optic on it safely, and it has a fixed barrel improving mechanical accuracy. It would be very interesting to see just how much better it could do than a P320.
I doubt it would improve very much over any old stocked pistol. The problem with stocked pistols is the difficulty in using the pistol optic properly at ranges it was not designed to be used: I doubt Ian would have a lot of trouble with a properly zeroed P320 using a modern high-magnification optic, it's just at that point you're carrying around something that's nearly as heavy as the pistol is.
Not sure what you're saying frankly. Magnification isn't a part of this discussion at all. Even if it were, you can't put anything big on a traditional pistol due to slide weight. But you don't need magnification to significantly improve on a Trijicon RMR or what have you, you just can't significantly improve on it without adding too much weight for it to be viable on a pistol where the optic is mobile. Also, the mechanical accuracy issue is debatable, as in Ian's experiment there were too many variables to tell how big of a contributing factor it was, but that's precisely what makes the Alien so interesting to test.
@@MegaAdeny The reason why pistols are hard to use at signficant ranges is not mechanical accuracy, it's practical accuracy. Ian said at least once that he had trouble using his stocked pistol at ranges because the pistol red dot (that is, the thing which determines practical accuracy) was larger than the thing he was shooting at: the cone of fire was bigger than the target, and so he couldn't tell what needed adjusting and what did not. That would be easily solved with a more sophisticated sighting system, but it would obviously compromise the entire point of the pistol. Certainly this pistol is *better* than almost every other pistol out there, and probably would do better than many other pistols with or without a good sighting system, but the sighting system is the limiting factor for pistols: it's just quite difficult to aim at what you are hitting. I mean, the problem with a pistol that are mechanical will show up faster than a rifle, because a pistol is firing a significantly slower, signficantly more air-resistant bullet, but those problems come into play at ranges far in excess of the point where you can reasonably expect to hit something with or without a sophisticated sighting system.
@@TheFanatical1 I think you're misunderstanding what Mega means. The advantage of the Laugo's design is that it separates the sights from the reciprocating mass, similar to the ALG 6 second mounts. That means you can put a rifle oriented red dot like a T2 on the Laugo, provided you have a compatible mounting piece. The big reason why pistol red dots are difficult to use in a stocked format is because most use larger dots than rifle red dots, so as to make tracking the dot easier in an application where it's nearly impossible to achieve 2 MOA accuracy. With something like a T2 with low parallax and a 2 MOA dot, you'd be able to achieve much greater accuracy in practice and have a much more usable setup than with a pistol optic.
@@KeterMalkuth You're saying that the design of the Laugo makes it easier to mount rifle sights? Yes, I agree, that was partially my point: the sighting system is the most important thing. If you mounted a fixed (presumably, rifle) optic to the frame of a pistol with reciprocating slide, there is no reason why it would not perform capably.
The old aliens have that lack of dummy cartridge feature too, but it also means that the slide is harder to rack on a full mag than it otherwise would be.

How about doing a comparison of the Alien vs other IPSC/USPSA metal body, hammer fired, production guns, like CZ Shadow 2, Tanfoglio Stock Master, Baretta 92X?
Laugo wouldn't be happy with that because it would show that their overpriced pistol isn't better than competition pistols that cost a fraction of the price. I guarantee an equally priced competition pistol will outclass the Alien in every aspect.
@@RSpracticalshooting I do hope that they have a more affordable model down the line like FK Brno Field Pistol -> PSD. I was glad to see a new development that was not another take on striker fired, polymer body, or a Browning tilting barrel hammer fired derivative. I don't mind rich collectors/early adopters paying for the R&D for the new concept, if that concept has the ability to be objectively better. Ian was able to double tap the spinner at the top and bottom, his self proclaimed nemesis, so the hype has to be worth something.
We forgotten weapons enjoyers love our esoteric operating mechanics, don't we?

Neat firearm
7000$ is just a bit too much for me, the older model for 5000$ is about the limit of what i would consider spending on a single handgun
Heck, for 5000$ i could order a geiger GRP handbuilt rollerlocked pistol
You are a tool if you spend more than 1500 on a pistol.
I was just looking again at the Korth PRS video!
@@CMon_Jack people have different interests and can spend their money how they wish.
@@CMon_Jack And you are a tool without spending this much on a pistol, just by virtue of judging people on what they spend their money.
@@davidgoodnow269 too bad they stopped making them
What adapter did you use to mount the aimpoint?
What rifle are you going to pair it with?

Ian you forgot to put that new one in the mud
Reminder that youtube still plays ads over your videos.
Who makes the optic plate? I’ve been looking for a plate for an RMR for mine

Why not put a competition style dot on there over the mailbox?
laugo should make a machine pistol version of the alien
there is a video of one shooting Full auto at the factory, and it is SILLY fast....
How is it we get a range video on this gun but youtube "won't" allow a range video on the previous 2 guns?
Machine guns.

What targets were you using?
Ian, can you in the future do a video outline the process you use for transporting your firearms overseas for Finnish Brutality and what it is like returning with them. What are the hoops the Customs et al make you jump through. Thank you!
There's a company in the US that does it all for you, you give them the gun and then they give you the gun in whatever country you'd like, assuming that country allows it. One would assume for competition shooting most do. I'm 99% sure he's done a video on it in the past.
@@TheFanatical1 That video dealt with importation of a purchased firearm while I am interested in the aspect of the temporary export/reimportation process. It may be similar but there are differences.
@@ibannymous Nah, he's also spoken about it in a QnA video on the specifics of getting a gun to Finnish Brutality. I cannot remember which video, but it definitely exists.
Can anyone tell me why there is cloth over a crate at the start? Just curious
They should just put a plastic heat shield above the trigger like on the P7s.
Let me put on the BIGGEST red dot I can possibly find!
The sped up shooting portion was super lame, I wouldn’t suggest doing that again.
It’s cool tech that they seem to be holding behind low production numbers. I’d love to have one, or something similar with the same recoil/slide system, but no way in hell I’ll be paying what these have been priced at.
My best guess is wait a while, i see no reason why something similar couldn't be made out of mostly sheet metal and polymer
The only benefit I see from this is that it's going to force big manufacturers to take another look at alternative operating mechanisms to replicate the Aliens benefits but without the price tag.
